It's official, Marks and Spencer have fallen

I know we have 'known' this for a while, but this is now their official response. How many 'inappropriate' incidents will be necessary before they see sense?

Women are being ignored and our rights are being taken away because of a few vocal men.

^ this. It's fucking depressing.

We're going back in time.

koshkat · 31/10/2019 14:49

The cubicles may be lockable but there is a bloody great gap at the bottom suitable for perving.

slashlover · 31/10/2019 14:49

So you'd all be cool with a trans man in the cubicle next to you? As, according to some he is actually a woman?

Siameasy · 31/10/2019 14:50

If they are cubicles then why can’t “men who feel uncomfortable” use the men’s? They’re all lockable cubicles apparently?! So no reason to feel uncomfortable as they’re all cubicles.
My local M and S pre-2019 refit was a curtained changing room. I know this because my DD opened the curtain and tried to make off whilst I was trying something on.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 31/10/2019 14:50

Sorry my post should say 'last' not 'lady' although that's quite an apt typo!

koshkat · 31/10/2019 14:50

Of course I would be happy with a bio female next to me. Men commit 98% of sex crimes not women.

Time40 · 31/10/2019 14:51

Man who doesn't want to get changed near other men = stunning and brave, we all need to do everything we can to accommodate.

Woman who doesn't want to get changed near other men = hysterically paranoid.

Jesus, the misogyny, I can't even....

  • Yes to the above. Exactly.
koshkat · 31/10/2019 14:51

Yes no one ever asks men why - if the cubicles are so safe - men cannot use their own changing facilities and leave women the fuck alone.

PegasusReturns · 31/10/2019 14:52

@slashlover

It's not about trans though is it?! If anyone can change in their preferred changing room then Fred the flasher can decide to change in the women's. And Ed the exhibitionist. And Will the wanker. And Vince the voyeur. And Carl the Creep. And Peter the paedophile. And Roy the rapist.

Any scuzzy creepy fucker who likes harassing women will be in the changing rooms, imposing on women's spaces and making them feel uncomfortable all the while knowing that M&S supports their right to chose Angry

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 31/10/2019 14:52

Exactly!

This is about women having to move over to validate the feelings of males. Like they have had to do for millenia. Except now it's packaged up as 'progressive'.

Singsongbird · 31/10/2019 14:52

Realistically what are the staff to do if a person wearing women's clothes wants to try on women's clothes in a clothes shop? Refuse access to anyone looking a bit butch?

slashlover · 31/10/2019 14:52

Of course I would be happy with a bio female next to me. Men commit 98% of sex crimes not women.

So how would you know if it was a trans man or a male bodied person?

koshkat · 31/10/2019 14:53

Staff can tell who is male and female. Women who look 'a bit butch' are not men FFS. Hmm

TheChampagneGalop · 31/10/2019 14:53

Just stay at home ladies, you're hysterically paranoid! No one should mind trying on bras next to men. Everyone knows that bi and lesbian women such as myself is the danger to watch out for. I'm always setting up spycams and waiting for my chance to assault other women, that's just how us LB ladies are.

koshkat · 31/10/2019 14:54

By using my eyes.

MrsSnippyPants · 31/10/2019 14:55

Perhaps any women who still wish to shop there should just identify as men and use the men's changing rooms. Probably safer as all the male pervs will be in the women's.

Musicforsnorks · 31/10/2019 14:56

I do not agree with the general mumsnet views on trans stuff. But we are all entitled to an opinion.

However, there res;lay does need to be a third option here for ‘choice’.

Women’s, men’s and ‘choice’, so three changing rooms, then everyone’s happy and we don’t have to resort to prejudice.

shearwater · 31/10/2019 14:56

Look, I'm not that bothered about who is in the cubicle next to me, and if they want to perve on my 44 year old veiny boobs and wobbly bottom, good luck to them, and I'll punch them on the nose on the way out.

I am bothered on behalf of women and girls who are bothered though, and who are more vulnerable and pervable than me. It's a principle, and women's rights are being eroded.

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/10/2019 14:57

I am disabled, weak, chronically ill. I rarely shop let alone try clothes on. Did a couple of weeks ago when I was feeling well enough and used the disabled space with no curtain. I don’t use a wheelchair but the disabled space gives me room to change without contorting myself in angles which could cause a lot of pain. And a decent seat to sit on. I’m very vulnerable. This is disgusting. I’ve just spent a lot of money at M&S.

Absolute crap.

Babdoc · 31/10/2019 14:57

M and S were going down the pan before all this.
For a failing company to seriously piss off its major customer demographic (women) is beyond stupid as a business model.
They deserve to fail. I will be contributing to that in my own little way by boycotting them until men are no longer allowed in women’s changing rooms. Let’s all vote with our feet and teach them a business lesson.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 31/10/2019 14:57

So how would you know if it was a trans man or a male bodied person?

Well, apart from the fact that in real life, away from the carefully posed photos and filters, most people can tell exactly who is male and female (just Scott Wilson the transman who was raped in a taxi despite insisting that he identified as a man)... If there was none of this nonsense, then I could use changing rooms confident in the knowledge that everyone in there with me, regardless of his they were presenting, was the same sex as me.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 31/10/2019 14:58

Just ask Scott Wilson that should say

koshkat · 31/10/2019 15:00

slashlover so you really think that we - humans - cannot tell the difference between male and female people? Really? And you also think that butch women are men? Wow.
