I know we have 'known' this for a while, but this is now their official response. How many 'inappropriate' incidents will be necessary before they see sense?

We really are living in a dystopian wokepocalypse at the moment.

Aah well I heard M&S need to appeal to a younger clientele. Perhaps this is it? They get rid of middle aged women and go for the woke pound?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 31/10/2019 15:19

BiggerBoat How about women and girls whose culture forbids them being in close proximity of partially dressed men? Rape and abuse survivors? Should they try stuff on at home too?

BeMoreMagdalen · 31/10/2019 15:22

They get rid of middle aged women and go for the woke pound?

Well, I know some teens who into Instagram inspired granny chic.

Loving the homophobia cracked out so enthusiastically on the thread. The non existent lesbian crimewave continues apace.

They need to take the signs off then and make it clear that they are now mixed sex changing rooms, so people can make an informed choice.

leli · 31/10/2019 15:24

But why should people have to take clothes home to try on, then lug them back?

kristallen · 31/10/2019 15:26

Well, I know some teens who into Instagram inspired granny chic.

I'm sure shareholders will be thrilled that M&S is moving into such an affluent market and ditching its more boring, traditional consumer base.Smile

BeMoreMagdalen · 31/10/2019 15:27

kristallen I think it's a misstep myself, most of the teens who do the insta granny chic also take pride in sourcing their clothes from.charity shops, not M&S...Grin

cheezy · 31/10/2019 15:29

I really can't see this issue with this if they are individual lockable cubical doors Confused

am I missing something? it's not a mixed sex changing room is it?

TulipsTulipsTulips · 31/10/2019 15:29

This is slightly off topic but do mumsnetters know if any of the political parties are willing to defend / protect women’s spaces? Is there a way the pending election can be used to secure women’s rights on this? Ie can female voters pressure the main parties to stand up for us

SellmeyourMLMcrap · 31/10/2019 15:30

How many 'inappropriate' incidents will be necessary before they see sense

This is the interesting part of the OP for me.
Does anyone know how many incidents have been reported and how many of those reports have resulted in action being taken against someone?

As a regular in M&S usually the other Men and I are just standing around trying not to look like we're looking at the womens underwear while our wives are in the changing rooms, at least we'll be able to hang out in there with them now.

TulipsTulipsTulips · 31/10/2019 15:31

@cheezy I would not be comfortable taking off my clothing if the man in the next cubicle can see my feet, even if the door did lock

@SellmeyourMLMcrapI don’t know about M&S but the mixed changing facilities at the Putney swimming pool led to a spike in sexually related incidents. www.putneysw15.com/default.asp?section=info&page=conunisecchangingrooms001.htm

Concerns about this are well founded and not imagined.

TheChampagneGalop · 31/10/2019 15:34

There have been similar threads about swimming pool changing rooms. Women with ptsd were told they should just stay home if they didn't want to share changing rooms with male people.

It's always the same callous answer - women, feel uncomfortable? Stay at home!

People were asking how you could tell if it was man or a butch female. And actually that’s the point. Because a trans woman who kept their head down wouldn’t have been an issue. And if a n actual female felt uncomfortable they could say why.

This policy completely takes the right to feel uncomfortable with a man in the changing room away. How can you say “ that weird bloke is staring at us” when there will inevitably be some mums and female friends hangingbround staring vacantly as well. One group is innocuous the other is creepy as fuck.

Gardai · 31/10/2019 15:34

It’s not about cubicles
It’s not about locking
It’s about women’s spaces being eradicated by men who identify as being women taking over our rights imo.

cheezy · 31/10/2019 15:35

Okay. You see that just wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

IfNot · 31/10/2019 15:36

A few weeks ago i was in M&S buying bras. The nice assistant helped me find my size in a few styles and said to give her a shout if I needed different sizes. Anyone who has ever tried to buy a bra knows that you have to try on loads and I was calling her, opening the door to pass bras back and forth. She also came into the cubicle to check the fit, saying things like "raise your arms..hmm..there's a bit of boob spilling over, let's go a cup size up."
I'm not shy, I'm not scared of men and I'm not hysterical but I do not want to ever have those kind of experiences with some bloke in the next cubicle listening.

We dont need to prove why men are more of a risk (which of course they are) because we are entitled to female spaces, dignity and comfort.

Next time I try something on at M&S I'm going in the men's. See how they like them apples.
