Can we take a moment to appreciate Piers Morgan

If anyone watches GMB, you will see that Piers Morgan is trying to advocate for women by challenging trans issues - in sport and awards ceremonies etc.

There is a petition to have him fired for being 'transphobic' yet he is quite courageous is saying he is not in agreement about the rights of transitioners to go into sport, to cancel the female category at awards ceremonies.

Although he seems a bit conflicting about how he actually deals with trans people in general, I for one, appreciate his courage to continue to talk about these issues. Especially on such a big platform.

Nah, I'm good.

Whatisthisfuckery · 15/10/2019 08:18

I’m glad he’s speaking up, although I doubt defending women for womens’ sake has much to do with his motivation.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 15/10/2019 08:18

You must be joking.

Needmoresleep · 15/10/2019 08:20

He should also be credit for his efforts to talk about gun control when working in the US.

Which does not mean I am a fan. His is still an attention seeking, name dropping whatever. He should have credit, though, for sticking to what he believes in even though it may conflict with the current ethos. (Though on both guns and gender he may simply be reading a public consensus better than politicians.)

Babdoc · 15/10/2019 08:23

My enemy’s enemy is my friend. Cliche but true.
I’ll welcome support wherever we can get it.
Morgan is male, so will get listened to, instead of being subject to the death threats that we receive for trying to defend women and children’s rights. The same applies to Rod Liddle. If we can overcome our distaste for their views on almost everything else, we can benefit enormously from them exposing this issue for what it is, and spreading awareness to the non feminist public.

Pinkyyy · 15/10/2019 08:23

I'm a big Piers Morgan fan. But I'm pretty sure most people on here will disagree.

BeMoreMagdalen · 15/10/2019 08:24

Lest I come across as not caring about those issues, I'll expand a little. Morgan is an egotist who loves a pot stirring controversy. That's what he does. The fact that this issue has been going on for years and lots of women from all walks of life have been the ones pulling to get someone to give a shit, and now it looks like finally the dam might be breaking, he sees it as an opportunity to get some clicks and ratings doesn't make him brave in the slightest.

AgnesNaismith · 15/10/2019 08:24

I am a fan....interesting India Willoughby appears to have completely changed her stance!

mooncuplanding · 15/10/2019 08:24

I knew this would be the general reaction - that he is just a bigot, sexist, etc.

The thing is I cannot think of any other person on mainstream TV who is prepared to challenge the trans ideology , and for that I would have thought that anyone genuinely interested in this issue would be grateful, even for a moment.

You can agree with someone on one issue and not another.

This has to be a 'broad church' movement as it's about democracy - the consequences for allowing people to be sacked, no platformed and silenced for their views is Orwellian. He is uncompromising in calling this out - I note that India Willoughby was in full agreement with him.
Of course, there is an issue with many people disliking him so much that they'll reject the message because it's coming from him but it's great that this is being openly debated.

nottodaysatanlucifer · 15/10/2019 08:26

Always been a fan of piers morgan.

mooncuplanding · 15/10/2019 08:26

doesn't make him brave in the slightest.

I disagree, it does make him brave. No-one else is challenging this on mainstream TV, anywhere. No one.

GlitchStitch · 15/10/2019 08:28

I appreciate him bringing these issues to a massive audience (just saw a feed where he responded to Aimee Challenor and people below were helpfully providing links to the Green Party fiasco.)

I also appreciate him calling Pink News 'disingenuous click-baiting little twerps' to his nearly 7 million followers.

AnotherLass · 15/10/2019 08:29

He is a bullying asshole. I doesn't help to have assholes on your side, and it often hurts. It discredits the message.

AbsintheFriends · 15/10/2019 08:30

He's losing the poll to have him fired because the TRAs are in full froth and have mobilised to vote - it's a no-brainer for them. However, GC women aren't going to vote for him to keep his job because he's steeped in male privilege and sexism and he doesn't represent us, though he does see that the emperor is naked and isn't afraid to point it out.

The narrative will then go that this is a single issue trans thing, and whatever majority percentage therefore wholeheartedly support the mermaids/stonewall agenda.

(It would be great if he was sacked and replaced with Jenni Murray Grin)

Moominfan · 15/10/2019 08:31

Wasn't a fan until he started speaking up. Now I'm converted

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 15/10/2019 08:31

I like him aswell. He asks and then asks again when interviewing about current issues . He pushes the interviewees to get the answers the public want to know.

Needmoresleep · 15/10/2019 08:33

I don't see this issue as one of sides. women are 50% of the population. Well over 80% of the population are against self ID and probably more will oppose the medicalisation of children and men playing women's sport.

Women are speaking up. We need men to do so as well. This is an issue that affects everyone. Piers has reach and a strong instinct for what works with his audience. We will win this when everyone engages.

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2019 08:34

Piers Morgan cares not a jot all he cares about is middle class white men do you think piers morgan cares about womens rights ? Or is he trying to keep trans women in place so his rights are not eroded he is a fucking disgrace and I have no idea why he is on tv .

mooncuplanding · 15/10/2019 08:35

He is a bullying asshole. I doesn't help to have assholes on your side, and it often hurts. It discredits the message.

I don't know where you are getting that he is a bully. You may not like his style which is very direct and disagreeable, but I don't see any evidence that he has bullied people. I may have missed it though, so if you say why you think he bullies people I may change my mind.

I have always quite liked piers. Read his book quite old now and it’s very funny - good holiday read. He’s brave on guns and on this.

Beveren · 15/10/2019 08:36

Let's face it, his attitudes spring from being a bigoted, misogynistic prick, and he does it because he perceives non-transphobia as "lefty", not out of personal conviction. So no, nothing will make me appreciate Morgan.

BeMoreMagdalen · 15/10/2019 08:37

Yeah, I'll be taking no lectures about this being an issue involving taking support from wherever it comes, thank you, I've been banging that drum on here for a long time, and in real life, and got dog's abuse fir it from political purists.

But I still won't do more than say "Yes mate, you've acknowledged that women losing their rights and protections is a bad thing. This is baseline decent humanity." Why would I be giving him plaudits for it? Especially when he's just as likely next week to rip into a women's issue as a lot of fuss about nothing.

And finally, there are men who have been pulling on this for ages, and lost friends and standing over it - they are mentioned sometimes on here, and I will acknowledge them and say thank you. But I am really not keen on long, fawning threads about men who are essentially arseholes who threw some crumbs women's way because it suited them at the time.

mooncuplanding · 15/10/2019 08:38

@beveren

Piers Morgan is left leaning. Not radical left, but left.

OP posts:
Branleuse · 15/10/2019 08:41

Hes not interested in womens rights. He hates women as much as he hates the trans. Dont fall for it. Hes obnoxious.
Donald trump is anti-trans. Doesnt mean hes a good guy
