Any more information out there on this?

The Times are covering the attacks on Allison Bailey - a lesbian barrister - that have resulted in her chambers "investigating" her support for the new alliance. Share token:

TruthOnTrial · 27/10/2019 01:29

Well that made grim reading, thank you for sharing it.

Like she said, garden courts action will serve as a threat to others who dare to move.

Its starting to feel like a bloody civil war!

I am so glad this has happened.

I am surprised this has not been covered on the airwaves. Heard another tonight talking about ramming the assigned at birth rot down young children throats in schools in Birmingham.

Very pro all the lets get hold of children early as post and indoctrinate them. It was the schools that the moslems peotested outside. They were advised to seek parents views and consider parent attitude. They ignored that advice and went ahead anyway.

realitycalling · 27/10/2019 01:34

Agreed Truth. It's intimidation and bullying. Quite outrageous and a good example of the overreach and arrogance that targets anyone who questions their status quo.

merrymouse · 27/10/2019 07:58

I think this tweet from Owen Jones (screenshot in tweet from Sarah Ditum - couldn't be bothered to find original) is revealing:

twitter.com/sarahditum/status/1187665162599391238

"There is no LGB without the T, Trans people are an integral part of our community and movement".

I think that from OJ's point of view, rights are tribal and depend on membership of a community. People outside the tribe are a threat. Strength can be found from forming alliances with others. It is more important to be loyal than to question the conduct of other tribe members, and concerns about inequality and abuse should be minimised if they threaten the strength of the tribe.

I see rights as a question of principles and ethics, so I need data and definitions to defend my rights.

OJ just needs a bigger tribe (and I think preferably one that he can dominate).

AncientLights · 27/10/2019 08:05

Can I suggest send cards of support to Allison Bailey at Garden Court Chambers?

I may be as straight as 6 o'clock so far, but I am so glad this LGB Alliance is being set up. It's really showing Stonewall up for what it's become. Allison Bailey talks about 'Stonewall Law' - spot on: that's exactly what's been going on- Stonewall re-interpreting the law for their own ends.

Coldwatershock · 27/10/2019 08:08

Great idea. A nice big sack of cards...

AncientLights · 27/10/2019 08:15

I don't have the address but easy to find online, I think.

The Sarah Ditum Twitter thread: as someone points out to all those saying 'there's no LGB without the T' - the T was only added 4 or so years ago, 26 years after Stonewall's UK founding. They seem to have coped quite well before the T rocked up. Some people do need reminding of history. Often.

ChattyLion · 27/10/2019 08:20

Great posts merrymouse and AncientLights and thank for the share token reality. It’s exactly tribalism which lends itself very quickly to bullying dissenters in the in-group on pain of ostracism as well as tearing down those in the out-groups. It’s corrupting for any group if it can’t be self-critical. Even those that style themselves as always being on the right side of history. Hmm

The way this will get sorted out, short of a horrific public scandal, which is not desirable as a lever because it is usually quickly followed by bad knee jerk policy and legal change, (cobbled together on the hoof by a Minister in fear of a media drubbing), is by proactively changing the actual law, getting Parliament to do this.

So women writing to our MPs and meeting with them at surgeries to demand Parliamentary enquiries and new legislation be brought forward to protect women and children is a brilliant contribution from those who can.

Also as is emailing and holding the very many politically captured institutions to account when they try to ‘get ahead of the law’ and do stuff that isn’t actually legally required or permitted really helps.so many of these are just gullible and believe whatever the powerful TRA lobby groups tell them. Most people don’t expect the ‘right side of history’ to be loose with facts to further their case, or to support trampling over another groups’ rights, but unfortunately...

ChattyLion · 27/10/2019 08:34

mobile.twitter.com/bluskyeallison
This is Allison Bailey’s Twitter also. Her integrity in the face of aggressive, self-interested bullshit is so inspiring. Flowers

Her phrase ‘gender extremism’ is also apt and I think should be used since normal political activity shouldn’t come with hounding employers, doxxing, threats to personal safety.

Is gender extremism being monitored by the government and indeed in an organised way in the same way as any other extremist group is? It should be.

Truth it absolutely is a culture war (waged upon women for not erasing ourselves to order) and we’ve been here before. Only this time, the angry misogynists are preening themselves that they are woke and inclusive Hmm

AncientLights · 27/10/2019 08:38

Thank you Chatty.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/10/2019 09:02

there's no LGB without the T'

That makes no sense. The other day, listening to some reactions to the great news about gay marriage berg legalised in NI, someone trotted out something like it being great for the LGBT community - the 'T' tacked on automatically presumably as the change has nothing to do with T - they have completely separate consideration under marriage law.s.

LGB is one thing, T is another. They both need support and campaigning groups. People who are both trans and gay could benefit from both. No one is saying that there shouldn't be an organisation for trans people.

TemporaryPermanent · 27/10/2019 09:04

I think you're spot on about OJ's approach being tribal merrymouse.

I feel as if some gay men enjoy spending time with transwomen and feel they are more in sympathy with transwomen than women. I dont know, perhaps OJ hangs out with women all the time.

Floisme · 27/10/2019 09:53

Recent tweet from Kathleen Stock. Sorry I can't screen shot but this is a c&p of part of it:
Anyone unsure about why gardencourtlaw has reacted in so publicly partisan a matter to BluskyeAllison’s involvement in the new AllianceLGB may be interested to know that the Trans Equality Legal Initiative (TELI) are based there. Check out their propagandistic feed.

twitter.com/Docstockk/status/1188381041549070338

I'd forgotten about that link with Teli. I do miss R0wan - she'd have been on it straight away.

Justhadathought · 27/10/2019 09:54

I think you are spot on here. Many gay men will more naturally identify and sympathise with a fellow male ( even one who 'identifies' as female) far sooner and more easily than they ever would an actual woman.

HandsOffMyRights · 27/10/2019 09:54

It's becoming ever clearer now.

Destinysdaughter · 27/10/2019 09:56

Email address of Judy Khan, joint head of chambers, here

KatyCarrCan · 27/10/2019 10:23

I really think it's time for all companies to adopt a new approach to Twitter complaints. They should state complainants need to submit any issues in writing with their real name and address. It's way too easy for TRAs to arrange a targeted pile-on from anonymous accounts, creating an impression of a groundswell of opinion which could realistically be three TRAs using multi-accounts to bully women.
It's ironic if a law chambers doesn't look at the 'evidence' which clearly shows those complaining are focusing on the one prominent black lesbian in the founding group. Racism and misogyny. Garden court shouldn't be entertaining either.

TemporaryPermanent · 27/10/2019 10:26

I was going to say, please let's not organise a counter pile on by emailing chambers! If Allison Bailey thinks something like that would be helpful I'm sure she's capable of asking for it or organising it.

TruthOnTrial · 27/10/2019 10:55

A supportive email pile-on to Allison might well be in order though. Wink

Italiangreyhound · 27/10/2019 13:53

"I think that from OJ's point of view, rights are tribal and depend on membership of a community. People outside the tribe are a threat. Strength can be found from forming alliances with others."

Sounds like fucking Game of Thrones, which I didn't watch! merrymouse.

"I see rights as a question of principles and ethics, so I need data and definitions to defend my rights.

OJ just needs a bigger tribe (and I think preferably one that he can dominate)."

100% and more. I have trans people in the family, love and care for them and want the best. Always have supported trans people but not trans people's rights to dictate other people's opinions and feelings and lives. What right has anyone got to say same sex attracted people cannot meet and organize and socialize. It's fucking wrong to ram one ideology down throats at the expense of others.

I'd love to know how OJ would feel if he was expected to date trans men. But even if he is 100% happy to do so, why would he expect anyone else to do as he does?

Very shit behaviour from the LGBT army who are treating others with contempt.

Italiangreyhound · 27/10/2019 13:55

Totally agree. It's fucking toy town, that people are just doing this complaining from behind a screen!

Italiangreyhound · 27/10/2019 13:57

(I mean I am complaining from behind a screen but no one is going to put a person's career in jeopardy because I air my views, and that is just what these are, different people's views, BUT they are being made into law>)

BarbaraStrozzi · 27/10/2019 14:25

It always amazes me that companies do act on anonymous complaints on twitter.

The field I work in is "contentious", shall we say. We attract loads of people with only a tenuous grip on reality and some outright dangerous fuckers with extremist political views who have a vested interest because of this, not to mention people with huge financial interests whose vested interests don't align with what we do as part of our everyday business. Needless to say, we have extensive media training before we're allowed to use the company twitter feed, and all of us are very careful about what we say on it (and scrupulous about keeping our personal social media and company activities separate).

Because of this I always find it utterly bizarre that there are companies, firms and organizations out there whose corporate and professional integrity is massively important to their brand identity (Upfield, Always, the NSPCC and now Garden Court Chambers) who don't act with due diligence and a lot of caution when it comes to the uses and many abuses of social media.
