Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

The new owners are the supremely ethical venture capitalists.

Charliethefeminist · 15/10/2019 02:42

I am able to boycott because we eat the Can't Believe stuff. Though to be honest until this happened, I had no idea how much shit there was in these products. Yuk.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 15/10/2019 07:25

I think the Telegraph coined the perfect slogan so I’m sticking with “Flora: the spread of fascism”.

Needmoresleep · 15/10/2019 07:46

"supremely ethical venture capitalists"

KKR include some of the people featured in the book "Barbarians at the Gate" dubbed "the best business book ever" and made into a film. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarians_at_the_Gate:_The_Fall_of_RJR_Nabisco
The Merchants of Debt and The New Venture Capitalists are two others for your reading list. Both, no doubt, focus on firm's
determination to treat everyone equally.

Needmoresleep · 15/10/2019 08:56

It is scary that corporations like this, or Facebook, or Twitter, seem to believe that they have a right to determine limits on our right to free speech.

Huge US venture capitalise organisation against British mums. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and ...

The Telegraph article is very good.

Floisme · 15/10/2019 09:02

I think the best thing about this whole episode (and it's a crowded field) is the number of TRAs claiming to like Flora. GrinHaven't they realised yet that once you say something online, it's there forever?

lottiegarbanzo · 15/10/2019 09:06

...get quite irate in our kitchens?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/10/2019 09:20

"Hey, remember when you posted those embarrassing photos of yourself drunk on a night out at uni?"

"Yeah, well, you pretended to like marg made of palm oil and depression just to spite women for having the gall to talk without your permission. And then you ate some of it too!"

DuMondeB · 15/10/2019 09:23

This is the best thread ever. It’s like the MN version of Rumplestilkskin, except instead of straw they started with a slurry of “chemicals and sadness” (great line btw).

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/10/2019 09:49

"I hate MN so much I will buy this frankenspread and by God I will finish the whole tub!"

"R U OK, hun? Have you checked with your doctor first? Also, please think of the orangutans."

youllhavehadyourtea · 15/10/2019 10:00

I just received my copy and paste round robin email from Flora regarding 'positive feedback' I left on their contact form.

not even a 50p off voucher as a goodwill gesture. I'm so disappointed!

I feel quite smug that I'm a butter snob and never buy this plastic goop but it's tinged with disappointment that I can't boycott anything they appear to make.

The TRA's are quite welcome to keep sales afloat as far as I'm concerned. Top tip for Upfield - you might want to start producing all your packaging in pink and blue versions, so your new customer base can feel comfortable and validated.

Artesia · 15/10/2019 10:12

@youllhavehadyourtea

I replied to the copy and paste reply- asked them if they had severed links with Twitter, given their concerns about moderation of online discussion and debate....

teawamutu · 15/10/2019 11:09

Interesting - I haven't had one yet. Wonder how many they got...?

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 15/10/2019 12:26

Be fair! Do you not think this home goal has already cost them enough in lost revenue? Grin

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/10/2019 12:34

If their profits go down won't they reduce the quality of the ingredients? I'm not quite sure how though.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 15/10/2019 12:46

"Flora - the spread with high trace amounts of nickle from the hydrogenation process."

Just eat the packaging. It could be more nutritious, I'm not sure, just guessing here. Might even taste nicer. Possibly even more likely to be vegan.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/10/2019 13:38

I have had a look at their twitter account with my shiny clean work account.

It's certainly not going To Plan for them... Oopsy.

lottiegarbanzo · 15/10/2019 14:24

Following the Telegraph's line, 'KKR and the Kinder, Kuche Resistance?'

ErrolTheDragon · 15/10/2019 14:27

Wow. That MumOfLionCubs thread dog linked to just upthread - do read it. She is a lioness.

And I'm so glad MN and the wise women who guide women over the rocks of an abusive marriage to safer waters were there for her when she needed them.
