Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

I mean, crude oil is technically a natural product and you can make plastic from that, so...

RedToothBrush · 14/10/2019 20:56

She has served in senior leadership roles covering global public affairs and policy, corporate communication, and issues management for companies including Bayer, Mars and Pfizer.

I bet Jeanette's had better days....

Bayer and Pfizer you say? Interesting having such a background in Big Pharma.

What is the employee deal on share options as part of their employment package?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 20:57

... managing reputational risks... whoosh dropped the ball there.

Because we would never have been peering at the ingredients, Vegan credentials or human rights in Uganda otherwise.

Thanks Flora!

Rocktheboot · 14/10/2019 20:59

"It's better than dry bread, kind of, if you hate life and also yourself."

I LOVE this. definitely the next Flora slogan

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 21:03

Maybe they should run a twitter competition. Like Waitrose did (and didn’t that go well??)

I spread Flora on...
Flora, the margarine for...
I’d rather... than eat Flora
Flora - it’s better than...

Catmaiden · 14/10/2019 21:09

@RedToothBrush Oh so Upfield like Human Rights. Except for the ones for women, homosexuals and Ugandans?

I know! It's appalling :(

And, although it's not in any way comparable, they don't seem bothered about those of us who have serious dairy allergies, if they can label stuff as "vegan" but then say, it's not, really. Hmm

Catmaiden · 14/10/2019 21:14

Dyrne Catmaiden honestly dear, we covered this a few pages back - do try to keep up or you’ll be uncovered as the Spreadphobic bigot you are. Flora identifies as Vegan; which is Clearly enough. Those that have a dairy allergy are clearly bigots too for requiring them to disclose their pre-transition status of “Clearly something to fucking to with dairy...”

Sorry @Dyrne Shock I'll try to be less Spreadphobic. Hmm. Its just so hard, what with all the trans fats involved.

I'll try harder to literally embrace the brave and stunning world of trans fat spreads.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 21:15

And, although it's not in any way comparable, they don't seem bothered about those of us who have serious dairy allergies, if they can label stuff as "vegan" but then say, it's not, really.

Let's hope they never decide to make any products containing peanut oil.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 21:18

So they have now pissed off:

Vegans (vegetarians will be hacked off too becaus it shows they are stinky fibbers)
Women
Mumsnet (most of them)
Gay rights campaigners
Ugandan refugees (gay ones anyway)
People who read ingredients lists

Did I miss anyone?

Catmaiden · 14/10/2019 21:18

Oh blimey, so now we are nutphobic bigots if we have a nut allergy? ShockHmmAngry

Catmaiden · 14/10/2019 21:20

How about Adult Human Females?
And Adult Males (who are allies and are appalled, like my DH)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 21:21

People with tastebuds?

It might be quicker to list who they have made happy.

Catmaiden · 14/10/2019 21:21

Oops sorry, you mentioned Women. Blush Sorry!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 21:22

Nonono - clarification is fine of what is meant by the word. It’s so complicated these days.

Artesia · 14/10/2019 21:25

Hold on- I have missed something. Is The flora that is supposed to be vegan actually not?? Seen references to it here but I scrolled back through the thread but couldn’t find out what’s in it that’s not vegan

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 21:31

It says it is (not on all the range) and I believe had a Vegan logo - but then in small print says something along the lines of ‘but it may have traces of dairy, so maybe you’d better not...’

Pandaintheporridge · 14/10/2019 21:32

They have a super vegan one, that's actually vegan, and then one that has a vegan label but warns you it might have dairy. I'm guessing that's in a "made in same place as dairy" type thing, but it doesn't say that.

RedToothBrush · 14/10/2019 21:33

Did I miss anyone?

Human Rights Activists generally.

BeyondAvoidant · 14/10/2019 21:34

DP just recorded three whole minutes of me giggling at "flube"

I actually like flora, very weird I know. Though my patio doors can confirm it is also a good replacement when you run out of WD40

RedToothBrush · 14/10/2019 21:34

Anti Death Penalty Campaigners.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 14/10/2019 21:34

may contain milk solids apparently Artesia

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 21:36

"Works on your bits and your patio doors, but not on your toast"?

Artesia · 14/10/2019 21:37

Ah ok- thanks. DS is allergic to dairy, although is less of an issue as will never be buying flora again anyway!

Just received the standard response to my complaint on Friday. Have gone back and asked again

  1. in what specific way is mumsnet inconsistent with their corporate values; and

  2. which other websites have they severed ties with on the basis of inconsistent values, and do they still maintain a twitter presence.

Needmoresleep · 14/10/2019 21:41

DH, who is interesting in politics and follows all sorts of blogs says some academic has just announced he is writing a book on the politicalisation of MN. He can't remember which academic. That's DHs for you.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/10/2019 21:43

You need to sit on him until he remembers.
