Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

I don't use Stork either. I'm going to search for something of theirs I can stop buying.

1forAll74 · 11/10/2019 15:30

I hate Flora now, it's changed, and has a greasy nasty taste to it. I used to buy it as a standby in case I ran out of Lurpak, but not anymore.

DontCallMeShitley · 11/10/2019 15:30

I don't buy those items because they are shit.

I don't buy fake butter or palm oil spreads anyway.

I hope they go bust (apart from the loss of jobs).

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2019 15:31

What precisely has their 'investigation' found? That Mumsnet allows women to speak, albeit not entirely freely? That a parenting site allows clear statements on biology and sex? That there are people here who can believe it's not butter? (And other matters clear to anyone with normally functioning senses and/or a modicum of scientific knowledge).

Melroses · 11/10/2019 15:32

Well, mimmymum is going to have to buy an awful lot of flora then Grin

I was using it for cakes, as it is hard to find anything that is 80% fat that is not butter, so will move onto oil instead as advised by cake-making friend.

Anyway, I hadn't realised that it contained palm oil.

Lidl do a very cheap "perfect for cakes" spread.

HavelockVetinari · 11/10/2019 15:34

Oh no! I use Stork and Flora Pro-Activ! Damn. We'll have to switch to Benecol and real butter.

Flora you bastards, stop being such dicks and making me change my shopping habits!

Exactly. Someone on that thread is claiming BirdsEye have already broken ties with MN - I thought that was nonsense?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 11/10/2019 15:41

I thought that was nonsense?

It was, the partnership ended when the contract they had with Birdseye ended.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2019 15:45

I can't believe it's not butter has been rebranded 'I can't believe it's so good' in the U.K.

Reading the ingredients list, neither can I.

Ingredients
Vegetable oils in varying proportions (59%) (rapeseed, palm, sunflower), water, buttermilk (MILK) (4%), salt (1.5%), emulsifiers (mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, sunflower lecithin), preservative (potassium sorbate), acid (citric acid), flavourings, vitamin A and D, colour (carotenes)

Yum.

My DH quite often bought Flora if his usual preferred spreadable butter wasn't available. I say "bought" because I just mentioned this to him and his reply was "what a weird way to shoot yourself in the foot, I'll just stick to Anchor now then." So that's one actual customer who will now be boycotting Upfield.

yulet · 11/10/2019 15:47

Mumsnet should sue.

Mayonnaise. Hellman's is particularly good for making chocolate cake.

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/10/2019 15:49

As we eat only tiny amounts of carb in our house these days, the use of 'spread' is minimal and it will be actual butter if we do.

I'm only disappointed they don't have any products I can boycott, but then, their stuff is clearly pish.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/10/2019 15:50

Da fuq?

That's the real news of the day!!!

sheshootssheimplores · 11/10/2019 15:51

Excellent! I wouldn’t touch their rosy at with a barge pole anyway. It’s an easy swerve.

Terfnserf · 11/10/2019 15:52

Trans fats 're real fatsGrin

sheshootssheimplores · 11/10/2019 15:52

And by rosy I obviously mean shit 🤣

Dangerfloof · 11/10/2019 15:52

What kind of sorcery is this, and is there a handy chart showing how much mayo to use in place of errr 200gms butter and can you use it for frosting too. Asking for a friend

Dangerfloof · 11/10/2019 15:53

And are we boycotting hellman's too? Asking for a friend

butteryellow · 11/10/2019 15:55

I've moved over to oil (or 50/50 oil and butter) - I think it makes the cakes moister, softer, lighter, and last a bit longer..

Am intrigued by mayo as an alternative - I suppose a little like a yoghurt cake it should work very well. I will have to give it a go.

As far as their products go, I haven't bought anything of theirs for years so me boycotting isn't going to do them much good. I see they do commercial products as well though, so if I should come across anything like that, I'll boycott those.

MrsJamin · 11/10/2019 15:56

I saw the Stop Funding Hate post on Facebook too. Who do mumsnetters hate? We hate losing our rights, that's the only thing. I was all up for telling upfield I won't be buying any of their products anymore but, oh, I don't buy any of their crappy products anyway.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 11/10/2019 15:58

I want to know more about the mayonnaise. Don't be a plopper.
