Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition

From the way the Guardian reports it (but does anyone think their reporting is unbiased) the undercover filming that campaigners organised has worked against them.

I think the licence will be reviewer again in a year. Have a horrible feeling that if it hadn't been "feminists" campaigning but "local" people the council would have acted differently. The patriarchy likes to be seen to slapping down uppity women.

They didn't even value the opinion of the local Rape Crisis Centre which works nearby. Sad

(Not that we don't have our own shills, we do, but I for one find it weird that random posters - who've never posted before - based in America are so invested about what mums on a British parenting site are saying about a strip club in Britain...)

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 09:08

Over 200 breaches of the terms of the license were recorded in the 20 minutes of filming.

By "perverts and sex offenders", according to the DARVO fans objecting.

You'd think at least they'd have the subtlety to get the time zones accurate, wouldn't you?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 09:09

PS For those who wisely skimmed over the astroturf at the beginning of the thread, apparently the pervs in this scenario are the feminists who documented the license breaches.

Grin It is so odd Hmm isn't it? And yet I recognise the same patterns from all the threads on the sex industry.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 09:13

I wonder if it pays more or less than schilling for Putin.

ThePankhurstConnection · 19/09/2019 09:14

I think it is also called brigading on reddit. I don't know what they call it here.

Annoying and transparent.

But brigading is shorter. Wink

ThePankhurstConnection · 19/09/2019 09:15

Big business this Kittens - I suspect more.

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 09:22

Not DARVO lol FFS, unless you're of the impression women can never do anything wrong if they're in possession of a fanny?
It's not OK to film women sexually without their consent and can't believe people on this board would think otherwise.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 09:23

Makes it sound like a vagina is something one buys and carries around in one's handbag. Does one also lock it in a safe when one gets home?

BeMoreMagdalen · 19/09/2019 09:32

Not to be unsisterly and all, but it is darkly funny when a woman is a bit too dim to realize she's been stoked up by astroturfers the night before and keeps their cause alive the following day.

LangCleg · 19/09/2019 09:33

I hide mine in the tumble dryer. Even the astroturfers wouldn't think to look there.

It was, apparently, also pervy to photograph and publish the semi stiffie sported by a male student who felt entitled to use female spaces in a US school.

But y'know: that's the place sophistry puts you in.

KatesMott · 19/09/2019 09:36

Creepster
What the fuck has happened to this board?

Just a temporary invasion of pimps and punters insisting that women and little girls choose their choice to be exploited.

Which am I @Creepster? I was under the impression I was a woman offering an opinion on a particular subject speaking from a position of experience but because that opinion differs from yours I have to be either a ‘pimp’ or a ‘punter’ right?! Or at very best you’d have me cast as a poor exploited girl unable to make her own decisions 🙄

I see the awful ‘cool girl’ term has been used too, just waiting for ‘handmaiden’ and I’ll have a full bingo card. Shouting down women with opinions which differ from yours in the horrible derogatory ways here really fucking annoys me. No ones lived experience of the sex industry is allowed to ‘count’ unless it fits with the accepted rhetoric of exploitation, coercion and misery. Any one who presents a different view is shouted down and accused of being a man. Pathetic

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 09:36
Hmm Dim now as I don't agree with everything, alrighty then if you say so. We all know being so called sisterly only applies to the "right" kind of woman on here anyway so that little dig doesn't bother me in the slightest.
RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 09:37

That sounds about right.
Heaven forbid a woman has a mind of their own.
Means you must be one of them two options, didn't ya know?!

KatesMott · 19/09/2019 09:45

Also, engaging private investigators to film inside a club where this is strictly prohibited is absolutely disgusting. Comparing it to filming inside Sports Direct is a vile comparison. Would you be happy to be filmed in a changing room without your consent? This is even worse, filming women in various stages of undress without their knowledge and claiming ‘whistle blowing’ as a way of justifying a huge breach of privacy. Charges should be brought against those involved.

LangCleg · 19/09/2019 09:49

Also, engaging private investigators to film inside a club where this is strictly prohibited is absolutely disgusting.

But 70 illegal licence breaches isn't?

Interesting priorities you have there.

BeMoreMagdalen · 19/09/2019 09:50

KatesMott, I'm sure your experience of the sex industry was dandy and you weren't coerced or exploited. But Feminism isn't about empowering women to make whatever choices they like with no regard to how those choices negatively affect many, many other women. And continuing to centre the male orgasm over other women because you enjoyed it and made some cash, isn't feminism, so I don't give much of a monkey's if you disagree.

Roses, hun, whatever you say.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 09:55

all the choosy choice people are here. great

I wonder why young men don't choosy choice to 'fund their way through college' by being perved over by middle aged women?

surely young men are being oppressed in this regard? why aren't career advisors steering them towards this excellent and lucrative career opportunity?

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 10:00

But 70 illegal licence breaches isn't?

It's not an either or situation.
Nobody's said that isn't disgusting, as it is.
People are capable of knowing BOTH are wrong acts.
Not pretend one is fine and dandy.

The management responded by dismissing the employees
So sounds like those found breaching the rules and license were (rightly) dismissed then, so was dealt with like it would in any other work environment.

Datun · 19/09/2019 10:02

It's amazing how women in strip clubs, pornography and prostitution are supposed to get a choice because it centres men.

But don't get a choice as to sex segregation, because it centres men.

And it's a feminism's fault, because it doesn't centre men.

KatesMott · 19/09/2019 10:09

LangCleg Where did I say that the licence breaches weren’t prohibited? They absolutely are and have been dealt with accordingly, as they should. My primary concern is with the filming of women in various stares of undress without their consent, do you think this shouldn’t be a priority?

I wonder why young men don't choosy choice to 'fund their way through college' by being perved over by middle aged women?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly
I’ve worked with a number of Male strippers and ‘Butlers in the buff’ who’ve done just that but this isn’t what this thread was originally about is it?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 10:21

Oh yeah, because every town has a club where tragic middle aged women can go to paw ‘butlers in the buff’

I know I’m appalled by those German mega ‘Butlers in the buff’ brothels. With all those poor trafficked butlers from Butlonia. Shocking

Or maybe it’s not comparable at all. Just a thought

LangCleg · 19/09/2019 10:21

My primary concern is with the filming of women in various stares of undress without their consent, do you think this shouldn’t be a priority?

Were these films made public for consumption? Or were they used as evidence of licence breaches?

Do get a grip and stop eliding.

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 10:22

I wonder why young men don't choosy choice to 'fund their way through college' by being perved over by middle aged women?

As Kate just said - there's plenty of those type of services such as Butler in the Buff type out there though, so it's obvious plenty do just that.
