Apparently “gender neutral” means trousers aka the male default. This is utterly insane. I mean I wouldn’t have minded the choice of trousers or skirts for either sex but only trousers?

Oh it was on the news just now.

Lol those skirts are pretty short Grin same as in my day though.

Skirts for all and enforce length then.
And i mean they're only legs what harm can they do? Man in my office goes running every day in tiny 70s shorts no on its perturbed.

If they want to support trans students it makes no sense to ban skirts. Banning trans girls from being their authentic self etc. Saying its for trans students is twaddle. They are scared of boys in skirts.

BustedWench · 06/09/2019 17:22

The POLICE called in, are we getting there yet with this shit? Police for uniform and choice.

DoctorAllcome · 06/09/2019 17:22

Of course a uniform rule will be about restricting girls clothing. Because girls bodies are too distracting.
I hope they win.

SarahTancredi · 06/09/2019 17:22

Same as the ones who want things like women only gym sessions stopped. They don't ever want a male only session. They just want women not to be allowed to

Yy the solution is never to add is it. Always to take away. The scouts is a prime example. Where were these men when troops needed leaders. Why didn't they step up? Instead women and girls came to the rescue and now men play the victim cos theres no boys only spaces .

It's the same with any thing. They dont want it but no one else can have it either

littlbrowndog · 06/09/2019 17:26

True. It’s always about girls.

What if the boys trousers were to skinnie

Call the police

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 17:29

In the thing on the telly the trousers on the boy and the skirt on the girl were similar level

Skirt was short and worn with attitude
Trousers were drainpipe (skintight) and on the short side think mod

They looked great tbh teens are pretty awesome

Her0utdoors · 06/09/2019 17:29

Lewes not Brighton, definitely a feisty bunch if bonfire night is anything to go by. This school changed the uniform policy about 10 years ago though didn't it?

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 17:31

IF and WHEN these girls many of whom will have quite adult bodies wear those drainpipe trousers as per uniform and same as boys, Mark my words, they WILL get told they are too tight, too revealing, unsuitable.

The problem is always always about societies attitudes to female bodies, about discomfort with girls with woman bodies but who are still children etc etc

That is what needs sorting ffs

2stepsonthewater · 06/09/2019 17:32

Someone has hacked the Wikipedia page on this school, ha ha! (Or maybe created one where there wasn't before?)

Drabarni · 06/09/2019 17:33

I'd rather girls be in trousers then impractical skirts up their arses.
Some school skirts are indecent, made like that rather than parents buying the wrong length.
Parents used to moan when their girls weren't allowed to wear trousers, specially in the winter.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 17:35

Yes yes

Fuck all the analysis and get those little tarts covered up.

(exactly the same when I was at school in the 80s)

ImTheCaddy · 06/09/2019 17:40

Big difference between Lewes and Brighton!

I'm all for equality but all they've done is made the girls wear the boys uniform

helpmeiamatoad · 06/09/2019 17:43

This is insane. Calling the police because girls are wearing skirts?!

Birdsfoottrefoil · 06/09/2019 17:44

But do girls really have a choice when they are wearing skirts that don’t cover their bum cheeks, expose the crotch of their tights, that they constantly have to adjust to stop them riding up to their waists? When all the other girls are wearing them? It is not difficulty to imagine the strength of character necessary to go against the trend and comments to wear skirt of even mid-thigh length.

Dyrne · 06/09/2019 17:44

I completely understand how uncomfortable some of these poor girls would be having to wear trousers, and the fact that they actually had police officers there enforcing what the girls were wearing is horrific!

A small part of me hopes that there’s a girl bolshy enough to wear the tightest trousers she can, combined with the thickest Pad she can find, just to make the point of why some girls may prefer skirts over shorts...

Juells · 06/09/2019 17:48

The proper thing to do would have been to introduce kilts. TBH I think men's utility kilts are very attractive. The option to wear either kilts or trousers in dark grey/black would have solved the problem.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 17:48

My dd wears trousers to school as a choice, so do other girls, although most wear skirts.

Extend the choice to boys.

That might also help to desexualise the uniform, as boys don't tend to be viewed as sex objects in the same way.

The way people talk about girls is pretty vile.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 06/09/2019 17:49

but birdsdfoot, if you can ban skirts, then surely it's not impossible to allow skirts but mandate that they must be knee length?

our local senior school has a kilt style skirt to avoid wrangling over tight skirts I would guess.

what's wrong with that?

Thehagonthehill · 06/09/2019 17:52

The only timey DD got into trouble at school for too short a skirt was when we bought one from the designated uniform shop.
Trousers were impossible to buy as the uniform shop ones didn't fit at all.The trousers were not allowed to be skinny(the school counted straight as skinny!)And the only ones at all suitable were women's and too expensive. All the girls wore skirts for this reason.
Thank goodness there's no uniform required for 6th form and the teachers can just get on with teaching.
I have to say that if skirts are framed inappropriate for girl then the same should apply to teachers.

SarahTancredi · 06/09/2019 17:56

School trousers never fit my dd either. She wont be seen dead in a dress or skirt outside of school but the trousers are awful.

I wonder how far they plan to go with the victim.blamimg and slut shaming attitude towards girls and whether there will come.a point once the girls are completely absent from.school or dressed in sheets to hide their feminine form that they will realise perhaps the boys they allow to harass or comment on their skirts are actually the problem.and they will need to deal.with it after all..

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 17:58

The POLICE called in, are we getting there yet with this shit? Police for uniform and choice.

Why are so many of these ridiculous people so quick to involve the police in their petty disputes?

And why are supposedly underfunded overstretched police services so happy to oblige?

Cocolapew · 06/09/2019 18:05

The police Shock
My DDs high school allowed girls to wear either, DD1 always wore trousers, whereas DD2 always wore a skirt. Even though she never wore one outside of school. She found trousers too uncomfortable.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/09/2019 18:06

Apparently dd’s school sixth form boys complained that girls had more choice in their sixth form dress code. So what did they do - campaign to increase choice for boys? Nah - to change the girls dress code

I would be beyond disappointed with my sons if they did this

I agree with many others, the children should be given a choice, not have their choices removed

A school near my dad let girls wear trousers as long as they were boys trousers....my dad thought it was funny, and the right thing to do. Quite obviously i put him straight. He is usually lovely, dont know what he was thinking Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/09/2019 18:07

Oh and the police!

What the fuck is wrong with them!!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/09/2019 18:10

What if the boys trousers were to skinnie

At my children school boys wore the tightest of trousers, girls were told off for doing the same
