Hello!Grin
Carve out your own little virtual space here in the company of women.

TurboTeddy · 23/08/2019 19:23

Hi Detroit, glad to see you back.

DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 19:26

Yes, save cluttering up the Erasure thread with bears and Chipmunks.

Racoons are fun. One stole my trail mix from the picnic table. He rifled through a bag, picked it out like a cat with thumbs, stood there gloating and took off for the trees cackling.

I've got Neil Young on the turntable today. Sugar mountain. I like Neil's music.

a cat with thumbs

Omg, that sounds terrifying!Grin

Hallo @DetroitOtherDay Smile This is your space. Right here. Right now.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 23/08/2019 19:47

Checking in Grin 🐻

LangCleg · 23/08/2019 19:48

Hey! Detroit has her own support thread!

Guess what?

On Mumsnet, support threads are protected. No barracking or brigading allowed. Support only.

Detroit - one day, when this is all behind you, you should think about writing. You're eloquent and articulate and such energy comes through in all your posts. Thank you for trusting us enough to tell your story.

DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 19:50

Hello Silent! How lovely!

Racoons are shits. Noisy too, but not so many of em here.

Chipmunks get kinda scary en masse.

I've no hot water, bar what I boil on my campfire. I'm trying not to spend too much on propane for the campstove.

I've stash tea, as I forgot my camp coffee pot. I'm enjoying the black forest one. Packs quite a caffiene kick. And some glorious bacon. Brown eggs.

Now if I could shush the party hearty crew...

Hi Detroit. Glad to see you have your own space here. Bit scared of the thought of cats with thumbs but would just like to state for the record (before they get too entrenched) that I welcome our new feline overlords.

DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 19:52

YouTube has some impressive racoon vids. They are very intelligent. And prone to rabies. They also like cherry cashew trail mix. Assholes.

OP posts:
DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 19:54

I'm cool with cats. I do carefully run off racoons. Dogs are somehow more useful.

I really think I need a doggy friend if this carries on much longer.

I once started reading Bill Bryson's 'a walk in the woods', but never got past the start where he described the things that could harm you on the Appalachian Trail. People, mammals, insects, snakes, vegetation...

I started a thread (probably under The Great Outdoors topic... not been there in a while...) asking if people could think of anything dangerous to British walkers. The clear winner was ... cows.

DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 20:05

To be fair an angry cow is quite dangerous.

The wildlife here can be pretty formidable.

North American Badgers, for instance. I can't work out how to insert a picture, but they are terrifying creatures.

I can breathe here, though. Nice weather, trees, one legged crow. Free raccoon entertainment. I barely miss TV.

Saying hey Detroit 💪

DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 20:14

Hey everyone

Female only communes where older women are not devalued. I think that would be a great way forward.

Checking in Wink

You are one ballsy strong woman, detroit Star

Here's to strong female voices and female spaces wherever we can find them Wine

DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 20:37

☕. Yes, and women who refuse to give any more.

A room of our own. It's hardly much to ask.

I'm not sure about being strong. I think the worst happened and something snapped. It's almost like I lost so much, so badly I became a bit stubbornly tougher. I suspect I'm in shock permanently.

I know this, I won't back down. I have boundaries which I'll insist on till my last breath.

It's all I have left now.

Hi Detroit. I've just finished reading the "erasure" threads and wanted to add my sympathies to what you are going through.

And also this pic seemed appropriate 😊

70sWitch · 23/08/2019 22:03

Meant to say; I hope you find safe harbour soon Flowers

DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 22:05

Hah! Yes! Thank you for that!

The English Badgers are cute. Do they attack? There's not much that can hold its own against the scary north American ones.

I appreciate the sisterhood, and the company. How things got where they have now, I don't know.

OP posts:
DetroitOtherday · 23/08/2019 22:08

There is a vague plan, but I have to decide on whether im willing to either give up my vehicle to get there, or else fix it.

I've given up on my so called attorney.

I'm clearly not going to find shelter anywhere close.

OP posts:
zebrasdontwearbras · 23/08/2019 22:11

Ah, no English badgers don't attack. They're lovely shy creatures. Smile

I'm afraid I've only ever them irl as roadkill Sad

We have lots of foxes where we live though. You see them bold as brass, mooching around. We don't have wheelie bins where live (rural road) and so the foxes come for the bin bags of those householders still unwise enough to put bags out the night before Wink Our foxes are fat and well-fed.

Cuntysnark · 23/08/2019 22:12

Bless you. Hope the shit doesn’t stick and you feel the mumsnet love. And that you have found somewhere safe. Much love.

FermatsTheorem · 23/08/2019 22:14

I suspect Zebras might be a townie. I'm reliably informed that badgers (which are actually surprisingly big, though not as big as American ones - but then this is true of all wildlife - American squirrels are fucking huge, IMO) are vicious fuckers! With big claws. You do not want to go poking around a badger sett.
