And I’m glad

Are you referencing Penny?

GirlDownUnder · 24/07/2019 17:04

I only ask as they were so indifferent to us I thoroughly forgot their name. I'm sure it's a shame.

JoyceJeffries · 24/07/2019 17:06

Good. Waste of space.

Lumene · 24/07/2019 17:07

And what a surprise she has passed on the exploding bomb of GRA reform.

Will Boris even have a Minister for Women then?

LizzieSiddal · 24/07/2019 17:12

I just heard this, I'm glad.

I do wonder who will replace her though.

Lumene · 24/07/2019 17:15

She can’t just run away and hide though.

If she ever wants to go for PM she’ll have to address the balance of women’s rights openly. Women won’t forget her stance and the story/issues/awareness are only going to get bigger.

nettie434 · 24/07/2019 17:30

Tom Newton Dunn says she was sacked. I am surprised as she was a strong leave supporter.

BessyK · 24/07/2019 17:32

Good riddance. She did not support the interests of women and girls.

Apollo440 · 24/07/2019 17:37

Does anyone from the Spectator have Boris's ear? James Kirkup or Rod Liddle? Could they put a word in for sorting the GRA mess out and ensuring a decent Women's Equalities minister. I suggest David TC Davis Grin. Surely you don't have to be a woman to hold such a post? TRAs would be the first to agree.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 24/07/2019 17:40

Thank fuck.

Let's just hope there isn't another person who hates women more than Mordaunt does to replace her.

nauticant · 24/07/2019 17:40

It's clear nettie434 that to qualify for the Cabinet an MP needs to be a Brexiteer and to have shown no disloyalty to Johnson.

Lumene · 24/07/2019 17:41

The vent diagram overlap between David TC Davis views and GC feminist views is a very small (albeit significant) one.

Not sure he’d be the right person for women’s Minister as an overall post in reality.

Lumene · 24/07/2019 17:41

Venn not vent Grin

MockerstheFeManist · 24/07/2019 17:41

The Bozzocalypse has already delivered the end of Grayling, so good things may yet come of this Eton Mess.

RubyViolet · 24/07/2019 17:43

Just heard ! Hurrah !

Lumene · 24/07/2019 17:48

Damian Hinds has also gone.

stumbledin · 24/07/2019 17:49

I think her going has nothing to do with Equalities let alone the GRA.

This is Boris thinking it is outrageous that a woman should be Defence Secretary. Heavens knows what gung ho idiot Boris will appoint in her place. Prepare for Premier Boris banging the drum for another gulf war or something to distract us from the fact Brexit will be a fuck up.

It seems to me, despite commentators saying TM was committed to women's rights nobody actually wanted to be Women and Equalities Minister.

So it will just get palmed off on someone else who just doesn't care and will easily given in the well established entrenched trans network in Parliament.

And suspect that 99.9% of the population are equally indifferent.

Angry Sad

Needmoresleep · 24/07/2019 17:52

Iran is Boris' first and immediate problem. He wants someone he trusts.

I suspect Boris does not give a fig about trans issues, and will be content to be guided by Carrie Symonds. I wonder how woke she is? The answer might be 'very'.

Lumene · 24/07/2019 17:56

Yes I doubt the Women’s Minister role had a bearing on the PM’s decision making.

A bit too much of a coincidence though that delay to the allegedly imminent GRA reform announcement happened to occur on the very (predictably possible) day PM leaves the role.

nettie434 · 24/07/2019 17:59

To qualify for the Cabinet an MP needs to be a Brexiteer and to have shown no disloyalty to Johnson.

Definitely Nauticant! Apparently she really liked being Defence Secretary and so might have willingly stayed on if she had been given a choice. With the government's majority being so small, I wonder what this means for GRA reform. The worst option from women's point of view would be an early general election with the Lib Dems holding the power between a coalition with the Conservatives or Labour.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 24/07/2019 18:11

While I'm exceptionally pleased that the creepy Damien Hinds has gone, who knows what hellish alternative awaits. But maybe the recent revelations about the Tavistock debacle just might generate them into an approach that centres child safeguarding rather than the demands of lobby groups?

MrsSnippyPants · 24/07/2019 18:13

I get the impression Carrie Symonds is NOT woke.

I wonder if Priti Patel will get W&E in addition to something else?

ThePurported · 24/07/2019 18:38

I think technically she was sacked as Defence Secretary. I don't think anyone in government, least of all Penny herself, remembers or gives a fuck that she also holds the Women and Equalities brief. It'll be a few days before there's a new appointment, W&E is bottom of the pile stuff for the Tories.
