Is that The Andrew Gillian of all fab Times pieces?!

GCAcademic · 26/07/2019 23:29

The very same, Lizzie. He and BJ go way back - BJ hired him on the Spectator years ago.

MrsSnippyPants · 26/07/2019 23:34

I’m in bed but doing a little happy dance Grin? It all helps.

Andrew Gilligan this is your moment to use your influence.

GirlDownUnder · 26/07/2019 23:44

Oh maybe we can have some actually useful webchats now - that'd be lovely.

LizzieSiddal · 27/07/2019 00:00

Bloody brilliant!

Come on Andrew, let BJ know
the full facts of what’s going on at the moment.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/07/2019 07:48

Ooooh fab news!

Popchyk · 27/07/2019 09:05

Hope that Gilligan still has time to cover the trans cult though.

LizzieSiddal · 27/07/2019 09:27

I had the same thought Pop. We need you Andrew, please find time to carry on your very important work.

TimeLady · 27/07/2019 09:35

From Guido:

Victoria Atkins remains as a PUSS at the Home Office, and as Minister for Women.

She seems fairly GC:

Great to hear that Gilligan has BoJo's ear.

nettie434 · 27/07/2019 09:54

As Home Secretary, her defence re the Windrush scandal was that she hadn't read the memos, so I fully expect her to let civil servants dictate her stance on self-id.

Another interpretation at the time was that she did not want to say ‘My predecessor did all this and as she is the Prime Minister there wasn’t a lot I could do about it.’

I agree with Alwaystawnyowl that the size of her majority will be what’s most on her mind.

Yes, she was made to take the hit for May’s vile policies.

TimeLady · 27/07/2019 10:18

Mordaunt's sacking, given that she is a staunch Brexiteer, is seen as something of a surprise. A small part of me is wondering if/hoping her unequivocal declaration that transwomen are women and links with Stonewall somehow contributed to her downfall.

As has been said upthread, Cummings is too astute not to notice that this position is a vote-loser. Removing her gives the party a perfect opportunity to do a U-turn on self-ID.

youllhavehadyourtea · 27/07/2019 10:39

I wonder if the ( Unknown) Cabinet Minister Intent on Pushing Through Self ID ( I paraphrase) has also gone?

I don't rememebr who it was said there was someone in cabinet - someone senior who is totally for self ID - was it David Davies, or a Journo?

TimeLady · 27/07/2019 10:43

I'd forgotten about that......I think it may have been suggested by James Kirkup

MrsSnippyPants · 27/07/2019 10:44

IIRC it was David Davies MP. Can anyone recall the source of that observation?

It was James Kirkup. He also said that it was someone you really wouldn’t expect to hold this view.

GirlDownUnder · 27/07/2019 10:58

I miss R0wantrees

ZebrasAreBras · 27/07/2019 11:00

Where is R0wantrees?

ZebrasAreBras · 27/07/2019 11:02

I have a feeling the Speaker is totally for self ID. But he was meant to be going too, wasn't he?

I feel it's time for him to go.

FormerMediocreMale · 27/07/2019 11:13

Wouldnt surprise me if it was the speaker. He has made comments that would suggest it could be him. He is supposed to be impartial but is anything but so needs to go.

youllhavehadyourtea · 27/07/2019 11:16

Agree about Bercow, but is Speaker a cabinet position?

Think it must be meaning someone else.

GCAcademic · 27/07/2019 11:22

The Speaker is not in the Cabinet.

Needmoresleep · 27/07/2019 11:23

Wrong David Davis. Ours is a worthy Welsh back bencher David TC Davies. Unlikely to be in the cabinet, ever, but a Brexiteer so may be listened to.

Bercow is almost certainly self-ID. He hosted the Girl Guides consultant which included that brave and stunning Credit Suisse person Pips Bunce. Close to Edward Lord, I think.
