TRAs won't be happy though.
Maria Miller did exactly what she was told to do by the trans lobby. But didn't last long enough in the job to get the law changed.
And Mordaunt was compliant and repeated the mantras until the backlash gained traction in the media. Then she was largely silent.
Rudd has been on the carousel before. Knows some of the issues at least, knows that self-ID is getting ever more controversial. Knows that Miller and Mordaunt rightly got flak for their lack of any thought about the impact on women.
An astute politician would be able to use that to her advantage.
But Rudd will just ignore it and hope it goes away. She'll be in another ministerial position in 6 months so she'll keep her head down and hope to move to a more prominent department. No way is Rudd going to force through self-ID and risk her career. She didn't last time she was at W&E. And won't do it now.
That's a problem for the TRAs.
