sigh

twitter.com/radiosdavemac/status/1151108776981872641?s=19

"I will add that I’ve never put any trans woman on alongside some horrifc TERF. I vetoed it , in fact. Partly just instinct but also cos I didn’t quite understand what was going on with the anti-trans at the time.
I’m now reasonably good at the GRA consultation"

Further on in the thread (in which a number of people try to reason with him, including trans woman Debbie Hayton), he mentions his trans friend Jenny, who seems to have influenced his views, which is understandable I suppose. But still not appropriate behaviour for an employee of the supposed unbiased (ha!) BBC.

Just another man telling women what to think, feel and say. But now he can call himself woke.

MadamBatty · 17/07/2019 23:48

& he’s mandated & paid by the bbc for doing so.

Loopytiles · 17/07/2019 23:49

Weren’t women BBC presenters disciplined for expressing views on these matters? Hope Dave will be treated consistently.

Angryresister · 18/07/2019 00:20

As TW don't wnt to talk with GC women anyway, he won't get to decide .

Campervan69 · 18/07/2019 00:25

Complain to the BBC.

We knew that women's voices were not being heard during the consultation to the changes to the gender recognition act. Now we know why

A woman-hater working for BBC Radio 4's Today programme. How completely unsurprising.

"Horrific" applied to the wrong person in his imaginary scenario there.

nettie434 · 18/07/2019 00:27

Worth mentioning too that the Jenni Murray article which caused the controversy did not use any terms widely agreed to cause offence so in that sense this tweet is 'worse'.

Mind you, Dave McMullan also received a few disgruntled tweets from Natacha Kennedy because he praised Sima Kotecha for her reporting on the Panorama programme

SunsetBeetch · 18/07/2019 00:31

Yep he's just straight up admitted it, Campervan69

So during a government consultation about women and girls existing rights women were vetoed by the bbc???

This needs adding to the bbc thread.

Wankers.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/07/2019 06:15

Anyone wanting evidence for an of on complaint, this is it.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 18/07/2019 06:39

Is this worth a complaint to Ofcom about the BBC evidently subverting the democratic process (GRA consultation) by silencing women's voices?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/07/2019 06:52

That should be ofcom in my reply above, auto correct changed it.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/07/2019 06:52

that is awful. so he's boasting that he suppressed coverage of a government consultation? that's how it reads to me

god it's so depressing, but also amazing we've got this far when the deck is stacked against us so much

SunsetBeetch · 18/07/2019 07:00

I have done, Lumpy

The BBC treats women appallingly. We already know this, as evidenced by multiple whistle-blowers, but they remain untouchable, just like any other publicly-funded body.

AlessandraAsteriti · 18/07/2019 07:14

What an admission. I did not understand what was going on, but I still hated the side with the feminists. Men hate women by default.

TheBigBallOfOil · 18/07/2019 07:17

No wonder the today programme is going downhill, if this sort of dickhead is typical of the “brains” behind it.

TheBigBallOfOil · 18/07/2019 07:18

And he should of course be sacked. If rod liddle couldn’t get away with the fox hunting remarks I don’t see why this toilet should get away with this.

Floisme · 18/07/2019 07:26

Everything Lumpy said. This isn't just some random journo being a knobhead on Twitter. This is a BBC employee boasting that he suppressed debate during a democratic government process.

Manderleyagain · 18/07/2019 07:34

What's his job at the beeb?

Popchyk · 18/07/2019 07:46

He is duty editor and producer of the Today Programme on Radio 4.

Radio 4's flagship news programme.

Lordamighty · 18/07/2019 07:49

Anyone know where this can be reported? I’m damned if I am going to sit back while some TRA brags about silencing women’s views.

OvaHere · 18/07/2019 07:53

This is appalling bias and suppression of opinion during a supposed democratic consultation period.

Popchyk · 18/07/2019 07:56

His comments about TERFs came about on a thread about the Panarama programme about No Outsiders in schools:

twitter.com/radiosdavemac/status/1151046748212727808

"The head and the deputy head, Sara Khan, Peter Tatchell, the school in London, even bloody Damian Hinds is in the schools side

Every authoritative guest spoke in favour.
Nameless thugs and religious zealots spoke afainst

Cry bias all you like - it’s lazy & you can do better"

Nameless thugs and religious zealots?

Really?

And:

"I don’t want to people saying I’m haraam - anymore than you I’m quite sure. But we don’t defeat them by pretending they’re not there. We cannot win by not taking it head on. They brought this fight to our foor. Not us, them. When they bring war, we must listen to how they charge".

This is not an unbiased view of the issue.

NotTerfNorCis · 18/07/2019 07:58

He seems to be one of these men, like Adrian Harrop, who fiercely fights for the rights of gay men and transwomen but is oblivious to women's perspective.
