sigh

"I will add that I’ve never put any trans woman on alongside some horrifc TERF. I vetoed it , in fact. Partly just instinct but also cos I didn’t quite understand what was going on with the anti-trans at the time.
I’m now reasonably good at the GRA consultation"

Further on in the thread (in which a number of people try to reason with him, including trans woman Debbie Hayton), he mentions his trans friend Jenny, who seems to have influenced his views, which is understandable I suppose. But still not appropriate behaviour for an employee of the supposed unbiased (ha!) BBC.

This stinks. And no doubt explains why so many programmes eg Victoria Derbyshire often had panels made up only of 4 natal males, men and transwomen.

Yes you are being too nice Kat! There is admitted bias. It is not sufficient to sideline women to a separate slot and no chance to ask questions and rebutt assertions at the time they are made. Women should be given the same opportunity as any other viewpoint.

Helen Joyce of The Economist is on fire at the moment. saying everything I think, but in a much more articulate and authoritative way

I think I heart her a bit

I've complained to the BBC, but yes, given the mendacious whitewash I got in response to my Nic Williams complaint I think I'm going straight to ofcom, too.

Mermoose · 18/07/2019 10:15

How is this guy an editor when he can't edit his own tweets?

littlbrowndog · 18/07/2019 11:21

But by calling women terfs it seems it’s not a slur on women

That is how they guys think it’s ok

littlbrowndog · 18/07/2019 11:22

When I complained to bbc for using assigned at birth words

Bbc said to me they were fine with using the words assigned at birth

Idiots

WomanBornNotWorn · 18/07/2019 11:30

I've submitted a formal complaint to the BBC:

'The BBC is a national broadcaster bound to impartiality by law.

Britain's government ran a public consultation on gender self-ID, which has brought many issues into public debate and scrutiny over the potential threat to the rights of women and girls from transgender ideology. Many people are deeply concerned and are attempting to engage in rational, intelligent debate on the issue.

In his tweet dated 16/7 Dave McMullan, duty editor, producer, reporter BBC Radio 4 Today, admits he didn't understand the issues around self ID and the proposed Gender Recognition Act reform, yet boasts that he vetoed women who wanted the law to stay as is from coming on his show, using the term 'some horrific TERF'.

Mr McMullan does not have the right to shut down debate or pick and choose who can speak.

The term TERF is a mysoginistic slur, an insult against women, often used together with calls to commit extreme violence against women.

The BBC must investigate Mr Mullen's attitudes, language and behaviour.

He must apologise.'

I will keep Mumsnet informed.

WomanBornNotWorn · 18/07/2019 11:37

It's very quick and easy to submit a complaint on your phone - link below. I didn't see any option to add a screenshot of the tweet but I have kept mine in case of deletion.

WomanBornNotWorn · 18/07/2019 11:39

I'd urge as many people as possible to complain in a polite, factual way! Please add the text of your complaint. I'm looking at Ofcom, too.

I am shocked this person is an editor of Today. Journalists should possess clarity of thought and intelligence. BBC required to be balanced. Hope Janice Turner sees this and applies her usual forensic analysis to his blatant bias.

HorsewithnoRegretsNonJeNeRegre · 18/07/2019 12:02

I am shocked this person is an editor of Today.

Wasn't that Rod Liddle's old job?

So, you know..

@WomanBornNotWorn
Done. Really 5 minutes, also because his tweet speaks for itself, the idiot really dug his own grave there, admitting bias without knowledge and actively censoring an individual. All sprinkled with a heavy dose of hate speech

tobee · 18/07/2019 12:18

This man sounds drunk and out of control.

If there was any justice it would be picked up Janice Turner or similar. And be s big broadsheet splash. Then effectively forced on the bbc news with the bbc being made to explain themselves.

And he should be sacked.

tobee · 18/07/2019 12:20

The fact he brings his friend "Jenny" into it makes him sound like someone writing for a student rag who spends too much time smoking spliffs.

Doyoumind · 18/07/2019 12:50

Unbelievable. At least people seem to be all over this. Hopefully something positive will come out of it.

Lordamighty · 18/07/2019 12:54

When you hold a debate & veto any opposing opinions it is no longer a debate it becomes an agenda. The BBC are institutionally misogynistic. They prove this over & over again.

AlessandraAsteriti · 18/07/2019 13:04

Notice also how he only engages with Debbie Hayton (who is great by the way) because she is trans, but ignores all the women.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 18/07/2019 14:01

I seem to be making a habit of complaining to the BBC these days.

Doyoumind · 18/07/2019 14:07

Just had a look on his Twitter and it looks like he fits into the misogynistic gay man category.

CriticalCondition · 18/07/2019 14:44

Complaint submitted.

MockerstheFeManist · 18/07/2019 14:47

Oooooh, It's disappeared.

PhrixPhrox · 18/07/2019 14:54

So did the Tweet jump or was it pushed by the BBC?

TheBigBallOfOil · 18/07/2019 15:00

If he engages with women he might catch the XX disease. Makes him come over all squeamish, poor wee soul.
Just fucking fire him. He’s shit anyway.
