Petrol Bastard is the name of a band I like. Sorry maybe should have picked DeffoAWoman123 so I wasn't misgendered. Next time, eh?

PetrolBastard · 11/07/2019 20:42

Although, of course you were only calling me a man because it's the most desperately offensive thing you can think of. Not that you hate men, of course!!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 11/07/2019 20:44

I would honestly really appreciate hearing a cogent argument that would set out the logic behind Trans Women are Women.

I am baffled that people can accept this statement at face value.

Why can nobody explain the reasoning, why do they ALWAYS refuse to answer? Anyone?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/07/2019 20:44

And with that, Hazey wins the internet for today

hear hear

FermatsTheorem · 11/07/2019 20:45

Ooh, man haters too... I'm getting soooo close to full house.

(NB I thought you were a woman, Petrol, just one with a megatonne of internalised misogyny.)

SophoclesTheFox · 11/07/2019 20:46

I get called a man frequently. It happens when you’re 6’ and muscular. Don’t think I’ve ever taken it quite as badly as you, petrol Grin.

But then, I don’t think it’s an insult, so...

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/07/2019 20:46

Although, of course you were only calling me a man because it's the most desperately offensive thing you can think of. Not that you hate men, of course!!

I’m late to the thread but all i can see is someone who identifies as a man...thinking you are a man

Or have i missed more?

Grimbles · 11/07/2019 20:46

#triggered...

PetrolBastard · 11/07/2019 20:47

I think what people are saying is that transwomen should be treated fairly, respectfully, equally, not be the subject of any service station sticker campaign, and just generally be treated like any other woman without a lot of needless nosing into what's in their underwear.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 11/07/2019 20:47

Hazey, well played.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 11/07/2019 20:48

Petrol, but how are they like any other woman? What is it that makes them like any other woman?

SophoclesTheFox · 11/07/2019 20:48

I think we all missed the bit where petrol showed their workings, rufus. They seemed quite cross from the get-go.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/07/2019 20:48

I was referred as a man by someone on mumsnet

I think the name confused them

Should think myself lucky that they didn’t think i was a reindeer I suppose

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 11/07/2019 20:49

...why do they ALWAYS refuse to answer? Anyone?

They never answer. Because they can't. When they say TWAW they're defining woman by nothing more than a mash up of stereotypes. There's no intellectual rigour to the ideology. It's all clichés and a refusal both to define terms and to debate.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/07/2019 20:51

They seemed quite cross from the get-go

Oh well that seems a shame

PetrolBastard · 11/07/2019 20:51

I'm not making myself clear. What is the difference? Here's my answer - I don't give a shit. They're welcome in my bathroom regardless. I don't make a habit of inspecting other people's trouser area when I'm having a wizz anyway.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 11/07/2019 20:52

I see. You have no answer.

But now you are cross, I'm so sorry. Wizz away, just don't do it in here, will you?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/07/2019 20:53

I don't make a habit of inspecting other people's trouser area when I'm having a wizz anyway

You’d find it a smidge difficult from inside a cubicle at any rate

FermatsTheorem · 11/07/2019 20:53

The arguments I've heard Scrimshaw seem to come under three headings.

  1. Scepticism about "natural kinds" - because of DSDs, we know there are awkward "edge cases" which don't fit neatly under the headings "man" or "woman", "science" is socially constructed, "woman" is a socially constructed category, etc... Basically a smorgasbord of half understood ideas from someone's first year undergraduate philosophy elective. They move seamless from this to "well, if our categories for making sense of the world are socially constructed, we can socially construct woman to mean collection of sexist stereotypes about feminine behaviour and presentation rather than socially constructing woman to mean category in biology defined by reproductive function (whether or not that reproductive function is actually carried out).

  2. Pseudo science bollocks about "lady brains." Women are people with less connections in X region of the brain/ more cells in Y region/ unspecified reference to clownfish.

  3. Appeal to female socialisation - some men want to tell us they are women, and if we don't agree, they will be very, very sad indeed, and we wouldn't want that to happen, now would we, ladies?

I think (3) has been the one popping up most on this thread - lots of "they're women because we should be inclusive/be equalists/if you don't accept this you are horrible, horrible people."

SophoclesTheFox · 11/07/2019 20:54

Ok, so by that logic, why do we ever separate the sexes, Petrol?

Why have male and female anything- sports, prisons, loos, whatever? You are in favour of mixed sexes everywhere?

Your prerogative, I guess. I disagree and prefer to keep sex segregation.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/07/2019 20:55

They're welcome in my bathroom regardless

all round to PetrolBastard 's!

CheerfulPotato · 11/07/2019 20:55

It’s not like they can be “like any other woman” though is it? That’s like saying a dog can be like any other cat.

PetrolBastard · 11/07/2019 20:55

I'm not in the least bit cross. I've been on MN long enough to expect this kind of nonsense if anyone doesn't toe the line to the anti-trans rhetoric. You're a man, you hate women, you think other women should get raped... Etc. Completely untrue ergo I'm not at all bothered by it.

SophoclesTheFox · 11/07/2019 20:55

*i prefer sex segregation where necessary for reasons of safety, privacy, fairness.

TowelNumber42 · 11/07/2019 20:56

If you are happy having a wizz next to men that's fine. Many other women feel differently. Men are a much more of a risk than women.

Make the gent's gender neutral. You go have a wizz there if you want. The women who want female only get to keep female only.
