Lang, have you got a link for that table? (Not because I don't believe you, but so I can share it!). I've seen it before, but it still shocks me when I see it.

Ereshkigal · 15/07/2019 09:59

My UV pen has arrived

Ooh!

LangCleg · 15/07/2019 10:26

Lang, have you got a link for that table?

It's a spreadsheet so no direct link. Here's where you can download all the figures and take your own screenshots.

Thank you muchly!

I believe the TRA line of "women can have penises" and "lady penis" is one of the things most likely to peak-trans people.

Indeed, it was that, along with the cotton ceiling that did it for me.

Seeing Danielle Muscato - a clearly male bodied person, who is currently taking up a space in a women's homeless shelter - telling women on International Women's Day "you can suck my dick" was a genuine service to women, peak-transing vast swathes of us in a single tweet.

Women don't have penises. There is no such thing as a lady penis. Feminism is not for people born with penises.

@Ereshkigal it cones with a light on the end so you can see what you've written too so I'll be checking all bank notes in future for secret messages Grin

TimeLady · 15/07/2019 11:11

Our supermarket loos have a strange purple light source. Do you think that's there to check for urine (or other matter) on the tiles/laminate walls?

Just asking....Wink

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 15/07/2019 11:15

Sorry Time, it’s to stop people shooting up in there (can’t see your veins under uv light)

TimeLady · 15/07/2019 11:22

Thanks for that info, Bernard Well I never....

I just want to say this is the best thread title I've seen for a while Grin

AlessandraAsteriti · 15/07/2019 12:32

And even for those women convicted of sexual offences, I wonder how many of those offences also involved a male co-offender.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 15/07/2019 13:14

Cool
Indeed!

Love that pen! There is a very healthy and rather fun tradition of using widely circulated objects for dissent. Defaced money, engraving on reusable glass bottles, embroidery on clothing etc. I remember seeing Disobedient Objects at the V&A, where there was a whole exhibition showing how various ordinary physical ‘things’ were used to push social change.

I also love the fact that everyday objects can’t be censored, deplatformed or banned from social media.

2BthatUnnoticed · 15/07/2019 14:27

Petrol Flowers I’m sorry that happened to you.

To clarify, it’s not “getting close to a trans person” that is the issue (we know many trans people are lovely). The issue is safeguarding. Predatory or violent males who access women’s space as (or posing as) TW are a risk. There are at least 4 examples now of women and girls harmed by this, how many do we need?

So I’m not terrified by people arguing to keep female spaces. I’m terrified by people trying to remove them.

To be clear, I’ll gladly donate to a homeless shelter for TW (or for Trans and NB people generally). But we also need a female only option. Because no “robust assessment” in the world can weed out the Jessicas, Karens and Katies.

There are now two £5 notes and one £10 note in circulation. I really hope to open mumsnet one day and find a thread saying someone found one.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/07/2019 19:26

Men, overwhelmingly, commit any crime.

I honestly don't think most people are aware of quite how skewed it is.

I didn't used to know the facts. Oh, I knew men committed most crime, but I didn't know that they commit 96% of homicides worldwide, or 99% of sex crime in the UK.

When you consider the extent of male violence (and the almost complete absence of female violent crime) it's quite astounding just how dreadful it is and how little society comments on it. It's like we're goldfish and male violence is the water we swim in.

I can't see how anyone provided with the figures can think it reasonable to argue we should give up women only spaces.

JackyHolyoake · 15/07/2019 20:12

What we need to do here in UK is demand that our Parliament makes the exemptions contained within the Equality Act 2010 mandatory, so that the process becomes one of 'opt-out' rather than 'opt-in'.

All the protections needed are contained in that Act.

If Parliament refuses to make them mandatory that tells us all we need to know about the place of females in our society … that we are not viewed as humans with autonomy equal to that of males.

ChickenPieBumFace · 15/07/2019 20:51

@PetrolBastard why don't you put your preferred pronouns next to your username so there are no mistakes! In fact would it be okay if you are forced to do that?

Yes.

TheInebriati · 16/07/2019 11:13

Just popped in to say, you don't need a UV pen. All you need is a solution of biological washing powder and a cotton bud to write with.
So you can crack on while you are waiting for your pen and torch to arrive.
