Supporting our lesbian sisters THREAD EDITED BY MNHQ AT OP'S REQUEST

In response to this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3621239-Being-a-homosexual-female-in-a-community-of-queer-people-transbians-and-penis-inclusionary-lesbians

I want to create a new thread to invite our lesbian sisters to tell non lesbian women how we can help support them and be allies to them through the current struggle and abuse from within their own community. I don’t have anything specific in mind and would love it to be led by those that need support, in whatever form that may be.

It should go without saying (but just in case anyone is tempted to do otherwise) that this is support for biological women who are same sex attracted and nothing else.

(missing Michfest and Women in Tune too)

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 05/08/2019 23:50

I was looking through a Lesbian Connection magazine today from a couple of months ago.
Looks like there was a meet-up on the land where michfest used to take place.
No idea how it went but it's encouraging!

stumbledin · 12/08/2019 19:38

mumsnet have just deleted the thread publicising the Lesbian Strength March and Rally in Leeds.

Angry Sad

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 12/08/2019 21:18

Solidarity to my lesbian sisters. It was hearing from a group of lesbians that they'd been kicked out of their own LGBT groups for not wanting to date transwomen that made me realise something bad and strange was going on.

I have told a few women I know about your plight, I think they now think I'm a lesbian myself as I was really going on about it trying to get them to see what was happening. I think I peaked one of them, she pointed out that she was a tomboy in her youth and how wrong it would have been for someone to say she was 'really a boy.'

Do you know why the Strength March thread was deleted? I can't see a reason why it was but I hadn't spent much time on that thread.

PegasusRex · 12/08/2019 21:23

i think it was just for the gofundme link.

I'm one of the organisers of the march and we are really hoping plenty of lesbians can come.

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 12/08/2019 21:33

Could you start another thread about the March minus the gofundmelink? Then more women can see it and hopefully join you.

stumbledin · 12/08/2019 23:35

I have started a new thread for this, but am really upset by MNHQ for being so heavy handed as they could easily have just deleted the one post with the go fund me link.

It looks really crass of MNHQ to delete the whole thread makes them look like they are cozying up to the lesphobic trans activists.

@PegasusRex please do update the new link.

I think many women need a bit more hand holding to be encouraged to come. ie will it be fun?! A list of groups supporting you. Are you working with Leeds women. Are there any coaches going, or a system for isolated lesbians to buddy up with women who might be travelling from their area, and ...

stumbledin · 12/08/2019 23:36

By the way I have posted the go fund me link on a number of threads on mumsnet but they dont seem to have been deleted eg this one!

2BthatUnnoticed · 17/08/2019 02:03

In light of all the fuckery going on about the lesbian march, I am bumping this thread to invite anyone to show support.

stumbled I don’t know how to link so copied from your thread, hope that’s ok.

Solidarity to all of you 💚💜

And what is wrong with people. Can you imagine lesbians trying to get a trans march closed down?

More fuckery: this time from Leeds City Council

This is what I find bizarre. TRAs like to say how tiny the no. lesbians is... compared to bajillions of cisbians and transbians.

So when lesbians want to have a low-key march through town, surely they could just shrug and ignore, right?

Wrong.

Just a reminder that the Lesbian Strength March is next weekend:

LesbianMeansSomething · 12/09/2019 23:47

I hope this isn't considered too far outside of the spirit of this thread as I'm going to suggest you support a man here but Mike Bettney took some amazing photos of the Lesbian Strength March last weekend and has been attacked since by transactivists trying to pressure him to remove them from the internet and giving him negative reviews on Facebook to try to damage his business.
It would be great if people could give him some positive reviews as he is a genuinely talented photographer and had the integrity to not kowtow to the bullies: www.facebook.com/pg/mikebettneyphotography/photos/?tab=album&album_id=406462093337256

2BthatUnnoticed · 13/09/2019 02:10

Thank you for posting - I will add a positive review. I looked and most seem positive? Just one awful one. Was he able to get the TRA ones deleted ?

Lippysoutherner · 13/09/2019 10:35

Also, I want to thank the women who came as allies last weekend, some of whom had travelled considerable distances to support the march. It really helped. ( in the spirit of what you can do to help).

Angryresister · 13/09/2019 10:47

Yes, thank you to all our friends who supported our March , did stewarding etc. We saw you and your presence at the end was appreciated too.

Tyrotoxicity · 13/09/2019 18:23

We appreciated being offered the invitation; and also how marvellously welcoming you all were. I think we all got a hell of a sisterhood boost out of Saturday regardless of orientation.

Looking forward to the next opportunity to help!

LesbianMeansSomething · 14/09/2019 12:25

Ah, maybe. Obviously the focus wasn't on his photography skills.

Fot those who are still interested in ways of supporting lesbians under attack, there is a news story about the lesbians who the National Theatre refused to servce because they wore tshirts saying lesbian.

Links to the news article about it and ways to dig to show support at www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3763234-Legal-action-launched-in-row-between-National-Theatre-and-lesbian-group
