This isn't some long ago "oh it was in the past" incident (not that that would make it any better).

This was the police being called to what sounds very like a domestic incident last friday. Right in the middle of the campaign of Boris " the favourite" Johnson to become Prime Minister.

What the actual fuck?

So is Brigitte Macron a sleazy old woman then?
Yes. Yes she is. She groomed a young teenage boy, a classmate of her daughter. She should have been prosecuted.

Trump didn't build an empire, he inherited it from his dad.
The joke goes: how did Trump make a small fortune?
A: he started with a large one.

well he just looks like a twit there...character from a Harry Enfield sketch

beanaseireann · 24/06/2019 18:27

I agree LenoVentura re Brigitte Macron.

usernamealreadytaken · 24/06/2019 22:49

LenoVentura I agree, I think BM should have been prosecuted and not lauded as the First Lady of France.

Max Hastings reiterating what he already said and adding more.

Helena that is a really good blog post. The response from that police officer is spot on. Going for the neighbours’ willingness to report is the last thing to do if you want to actually support women at risk from DV.

PerkingFaintly · 27/06/2019 20:52

Agreed, and it's worth repeating.

The police officer was PC Andy Moore of Thames Valley Police, and tweeted:

“Most calls around DV are from concerned neighbours, the victim rarely makes that call through fear of violence. Be careful by calling them out as they’re the reason we the Police can protect. #domesticviolence It’s real”.

HelenaDove · 28/06/2019 01:44

Well done to PC Andy Moore

People think that this should not be in the news as the policr took no action but should we know of the private lives of prominent people?
What if he was a headteacher (your kids’ school), his wife phones the police as he has just assaulted her and she is too frightened to go home. The police arrive and arrest him, he is held in custody for nearly 24 hours before being released as his wife retracted the statement. Should this story have been leaked to the press?

Follow up piece this morning from a friend of his first wife - 30 years ago.

Abusive men don’t change do they?

Ultimately though, wont it just be thought of as "his private life" and irrelevant- particularly as women arent important are they?!

It really is both shocking and kind of not surprising after Trump etc that men (esp men of power) really dont care if someone has a history of violence towards women...
