This isn't some long ago "oh it was in the past" incident (not that that would make it any better).

This was the police being called to what sounds very like a domestic incident last friday. Right in the middle of the campaign of Boris " the favourite" Johnson to become Prime Minister.

What the actual fuck?

I wasnt trying to minimise the situation, and obviously do not feel that pissed up rowing with much smaller partner is normalised in my world!!.TBH I hadnt read it all in depth so didnt get all the facts .My point was that it was detracting from the issues of being PM ,which looks more and more likely (although who knows JH could overtake at the last minute!)

Oh god, I had no idea Carrie Symonds was one of the women assaulted by Warboys. So brave of her to testify.

Jess Phillips was tweeting supportively last night. I think she's got this spot on.

I have just heard the Boris news, please please let's not make demands of Carrie Symonds, please please don't harrass her or expect things from her. I can't say more than that really, he owes an explanation as he wants to be PM she owes us nothing.

FancyRibbon · 22/06/2019 09:23

OMFG what is happening here?! In 2019, how can such a man have news stories like this about him and STILL be the main candidate for the highest political office in the UK. Shock HE MUST RESIGN, NOW.

Conservative voters are about to set the tone of our future government. This is a highly unstable time of national social division and financial precariousness caused by Brexit, climate change and increasingly unequal life chances- just to mention a few of the huge national issues to deal with. We will always need a government formed of calm, fair, trustworthy, capable, intelligent grown up women and men. Whatever their politics are.

And just as Coyoacan says from her example in Mexico of having women-abusing presidents or those suspected of doing even worse to women- (holy shit!)- compared to finally having a President who is a decent person. The difference is massive. Leadership absolutely does matter.

Is this shameful man who we want to represent us? Is Boris Johnson who we are?

TimeLady · 22/06/2019 09:26

The Tory party membership, including its women members, is so fixated on achieving Brexit as as soon as possible, that it will ignore just about any scandal if taking notice of it meant picking a Remain-voting leadership candidate in Hunt.

That is true, but it's more nuanced than that. Hunt has the Sword of Damocles (aka Farage and the Brexit party) dangling over his head if he doesn't deliver, and that may give Tory Brexiteer members (and I am one of them) the confidence to vote for him. He's by far the more sensible choice...except for his his Remain-voting credentials. May said she'd deliver, but her heart wasn't really in it; my concern is that Hunt is cut from the same cloth.

Brexit needs to take place asap to neutralise Farage and his party, otherwise there is the very real danger of a Corbyn- led government and that should frighten us all. Self-ID and the EU would be the least of our worries.

merrymouse · 22/06/2019 09:27

Many couples argue ,esp if the have a bit too much to drink and the pressure is probably on at the moment

I don’t want them to be PM either. ‘Drink made me do it’ isn’t an excuse that a potential PM should be using.

ThePurported · 22/06/2019 09:33

Hard leave voters, don't exactly like feminism and yearn for an era where 'women knew their place'. So this actually is good pr in the most important circles, for Johnson.

Yup. I had the pleasure of listening to a Conservative brextremist rant about this and the Mark Field incident last night. "This is what happens when women..."
AARRGGHH

TimeLady · 22/06/2019 09:35

What a beautiful successful young woman like her sees in a late-middle-aged man like him is beyond me. Her response to this will be interesting, given that the public are willing her on the LTB.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 22/06/2019 09:39

the thing is, her career and personal life are all tied together now aren't they? LTB-ing won't be a great career move. not what she needed at this juncture, I'll be bound.

TimeLady · 22/06/2019 09:42

Why not? Boris seems to have far more enemies than he does friends, esp in the MSM.

merrymouse · 22/06/2019 09:43

otherwise there is the very real danger of a Corbyn- led government and that should frighten us all.

The difficulty is that the Conservatives are no longer seen as a safe pair of hands that prioritises business. Both main parties seem to be led by men promising to ‘burn it all’.

I am not a Corbyn fan, but would find it difficult to explain why Johnson is better. It’s very difficult to paint Corbyn as a massive threat while presenting ‘No Deal’ as a viable option. To many people it’s bonkers vs. bonkers.

merrymouse · 22/06/2019 09:46

She is only 31. I think her career is more likely to be harmed by being in his shadow.

ThePurported · 22/06/2019 09:50

otherwise there is the very real danger of a Corbyn- led government and that should frighten us all

Yes it frightens me, but so does the idea of a Conservative government led by Boris Johnson, or Hunt who wants to cut corporation tax to 12.5%, and I am a business owner.

LangCleg · 22/06/2019 09:54

To many people it’s bonkers vs. bonkers.

Agree. I'm less anti-Corbyn than many hereabouts but I certainly don't see a route to any sunny uplands via any of the political choices currently available to us.

GCAcademic · 22/06/2019 09:56

OMFG what is happening here?! In 2019, how can such a man have news stories like this about him and STILL be the main candidate for the highest political office in the UK. shock HE MUST RESIGN, NOW.

I’m afraid that your take on this is very last decade. We’re now living in an era when ignorance and aggression are in the ascendancy and there is a backlash against women’s rights.

TimeLady · 22/06/2019 09:56

It’s very difficult to paint Corbyn as a massive threat while presenting ‘No Deal’ as a viable option.

Then we'll have to agree to disagree. Wink

Anyway, 'no deal' might well be the EU's response come Halloween. The stupidity was taking it off the negotiating table right at the start

nakedscientist · 22/06/2019 10:03

Fancy Leadership absolutely does matter. Is this shameful man who we want to represent us? Is Boris Johnson who we are?

I agree with this 100% leadership sets the the tone. Boris is appalling.

DuMondeB · 22/06/2019 10:47

Hey, Carrie.

Leave this shithead. Do the Freedom Programme. You’ve been through enough already and you deserve a happy future and the chance of a healthy and fulfilling relationship.

Sincerely and with best wishes,

Du.

PeriComoToes · 22/06/2019 10:51

Oh well that makes it alright then nauticant Don't worry everyone he's got form for this. Nothing to see here.

timelady, whether or not you and I agree or disagree about Brexit isn’t the point. Wanting ‘No Deal’ is a minority position. If we end up with ‘No Deal’ through a series of blunders it’s true that some will blame the EU, but it’s likely that many more will blame the Conservative Party.

His siblings are showing their usual loyalty to another Johnson, but he hasn’t managed to convince even his own family on Brexit. The wider public aren’t his siblings and most of them voted for remain or to leave with a better deal.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 22/06/2019 11:24

She is only 31. I think her career is more likely to be harmed by being in his shadow

yes, that's true enough. no-one is going to have a happy and contented relationship and family life with Boris Johnson.

run far Carrie, run fast

RockinHippy · 22/06/2019 11:32

Georgian house dweller here, so equally as thick & solid walls.

Yes you can hear stuff like this pretty bloody loudly as I can vouch for with various pig ignorant neighbours we've had over the years.

Old high buildings act like an amphitheater & the windows tend to leak more sound even if trebled glazed, so neighbours would absolutely be able to heat this, especially in upper floors as sound carries upwards & amplifies

We're getting the British Trump aren't we 🤢 & its stinks, the whole thing is a farce & feels like this outcome has already been decided by those pulling the strings
