This isn't some long ago "oh it was in the past" incident (not that that would make it any better).

This was the police being called to what sounds very like a domestic incident last friday. Right in the middle of the campaign of Boris " the favourite" Johnson to become Prime Minister.

What the actual fuck?

All we need now is the Trump to tweet in support....

Please leave him Carrie. Please don't stay there. You have to stop this violent, controlling and aggressive man becoming PM. You know that, deep down. Please do the right thing.

TimeLady · 22/06/2019 12:10

The wider public aren’t his siblings and most of them voted for remain or to leave with a better deal.

A majority voted to leave. Full stop. That's what was on the ballot paper, as I recall, not 'leave with a (better) deal'. And please don't assume we were too ignorant to understand the implications.

merrymouse · 22/06/2019 12:44

I’m not making any judgement. Just pointing out that support for ‘No Deal’ is a minority position.

Anlaf · 22/06/2019 13:46

Oh Carrie. Agree with all above that she was incredibly brave to share her story and this is appalling, appalling.

Presumably Boris Johnson will know of this too.

I'm always shocked again how some men will keenly exploit the vulnerabilities of the women around them.

If he becomes PM, and he probably will, I fear we must prepare for a backlash against women.

Allison Pearson blaming it on the neighbours and getting owned on Twitter

Backwoodsgirl · 22/06/2019 15:09

Seems like the British equivalent to Swatting

boatyardblues · 22/06/2019 15:12

We're getting the British Trump aren't we

My 11 year old said the same after watching the BBC “debate”.

Good God

We really need to name and shame the #Boris neighbours. Maybe record their blameless, unshouty lives and give the tape to a national newspaper. Anyone know who they are?

Fleetheart · 22/06/2019 15:18

@timelady- the implication was that it was with a better deal. and you are presumably not too ignorant to recognise that.

PerkingFaintly · 22/06/2019 15:35

Shock at that Allison Pearson tweet.

MockerstheFeManist · 22/06/2019 15:38

A real whiff of the 1950s about this:

"OK lads, it's just a domestic. Leave them to it..."

And when plod visit the victim, he's there saying everything's fine. Yes, she says, Everything's fine.

HelenaDove · 22/06/2019 15:54

And my MP

"The big element in the Boris story isn’t that there was a heated argument, it’s that the police were called.

The police were called by the same person who recorded Boris and gave the story to the Guardian"

tenlittlecygnets · 22/06/2019 16:03

What I hate is other MPs making excuses for this and minimising it. especially James Cleverly. Never was a name less apt.

Of course it’s in the public interest if Johnson and his gf argue so violently that police have to be called! That is not normal behaviour, ffs.

And the Met tried to cover it up too. Disgraceful.

tenlittlecygnets · 22/06/2019 16:04

Appalled at Allison Pearson too. How do people think the police get proof about domestic violence? If I was screaming and shouting at my h, I’d be happy if the police were called to help. Bunch of apologists.

nauticant · 22/06/2019 17:26

Boris Johsons's minders have gone well out of their way to hide him from the media and from the public to avoid yet another fiasco. Even with their efforts ultimately they've failed.

The interesting thing is the reaction of his supporters. They are deep into denial, "fake news!", and vicious counter-attacks. The Johnson Project is a remarkably thin-skinned and fragile entity.

StealthPolarBear · 22/06/2019 18:12

MockerstheFeManist in fairness the police force as a whole has moved on since then and I hope and believe most individual officers have too. I believe when they went there was nothing of concern remaining.

StealthPolarBear · 22/06/2019 18:13

Apart form anything else a fair proportion of the police force presumably also think Boris is a dangerous buffoon and would not cover for him

LenoVentura · 22/06/2019 19:08

If Carrie pauses for a moment to catch her breath (or is allowed to), she may well see that she has an opportunity here. It's not the opportunity that she thought was coming her way when she took up with Johnson, and it's one that could take her life in an unexpected direction, but it's an opportunity nonetheless. If she ditches him and aligns herself with the forces of reason, she could be immensely powerful in the coming weeks and months.
If she allows herself to succumb to the inevitable pressure to stand by her man and minimise what happened, or even take the blame, then in fairly short order she'll be quietly dumped and her career ended. She's potentially collateral damage in this and she needs to get in front of it asap.

StealthPolarBear · 22/06/2019 20:01

I'm not sure what you're getting at. I'm guessing she supports him and his political aims. Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she's not as idiotic as him

Caucho · 22/06/2019 20:17

The latest story from the person who reported it makes him sound like a weasel though. Reported a commotion rightly and the police attended and said all is good. Then he decides to send recordings he made to the Guardian. And is how complaining about people questioning his motives and pretending to be completely non-political. Yeah right mate. No agenda there in recording and sending stuff to newspapers. Can’t stand Boris anyway and would love him to lose but can’t see that happening even with this controversy as most people will think the neighbour acted like a dick

Caucho · 22/06/2019 20:25

By the way I’m not claiming Boris might be a terrible man both personally and professionally but the person who recorded and pinged it to the papers immediately is being completely disengous thinking that it’s unfair to question his motives. He’s not a politicial at all and then pleads and begs he should be left alone by the media and is entitled to a private life. Well so is idiot Boris. Ok maybe he was worried but when the police said nothing to see he suddenly does what he does. The bloke just needs to own it now rather than pretend as no one believes him

In almost all circs I'd agree with you but I'm not convinced this case isn't exceptional on account of Johnson's candidacy for PM. I don't blame the neighbour for thinking the public had a right to know. Obvs you don't agree, and I'm not sure either that we have the right to know any of the behind-closed-doors details. But everything overheard in the street or recorded on a cellphone from next door? Those noises weren't private in the first place.

nauticant · 22/06/2019 20:51

It's absolutely astonishing to see people overlook the public interest aspect of this. But having followed this on here and on twitter, and seen the deflections, the false narratives, the victim blaming, the blind eye turning, the tribalism, and all the rest, I'm no longer surprised.

Overall this has been really instructive. An insight into what we can expect from a Johnson premiership attended by Brexit-blind cheerleaders in the media.
