Can we start an anti "nail" campaign?

As a GP who frequently washes her hands, allotment owner and instrument player I really hate the trend for women to have immaculate nails that cost a fortune, scratch people and mean women can't do anything useful. Where t f did this horrible trend come from and how do we give women back the use of their wonderful hands?

I'm still quite shocked at how spiteful someone was to me on the Feminism board of MN over a photo of my nails!HmmConfused
I don't think anyone has been rude about my appearance in real life for years, I really don't recall it happening, yet on here?

DecomposingComposers · 03/06/2019 19:13

You see women as mere puppets unable to think for themselves and you (as in women in general) telling other women what to do is just as bad as any men who do it.

And this is the irony of the situation. When men do it it is terrible, they are awful people, cries of ltb on Mumsnet, yet when women do it it is because of the patriarchy!

Exactly, because women don't know any better and they can't help it really as the system subconsciously made them nasty.
It's bullshit and infantalising.

NottonightJosepheen

What part are you questioning?

The comment about men doesn't refer particularly to posts on this thread but in general. The view is that men are responsible for what they say, so if they made a disparaging comment about a woman's appearance they would be held responsible. According to Bertrand's post though, it's the influence of the patriarchy that makes some women spiteful towards other women.

Which is slightly bizarre don't you think? Men are autonomous and free thinking but women are manipulated and devoid of independent thought?

Hands age: get over it. There is nothing wrong with ageing

So why was it used like an insult then?

There are loads of cosmetic treatments you can get for claw witch hands

Fuckin ell. There's just no words. You're a peach.

Using the patriarchy as an excuse for being crap to other people is never an excuse but it can be an explanation.

Here we are - the patriarchy is an explanation.

LimeKiwi · 03/06/2019 19:35

Don't worry too much though, if you're female you've a get out clause, you can blame the patriarchy for your spite - you don't know any better and you've been conditioned. Hmm

@placemats it's obvious you have issues. Being vile to other posters is not the way to fix that.

But that quote was referring to another post.

What quote? Can you quote in your post because it's quite confusing to understand which post you are referring to?

placemats · 03/06/2019 19:37

Hey, Josepheen, sweetie,

Maybe I like the misery: Father Ted.

LimeKiwi · 03/06/2019 19:38

Here you go, the patriarchy is an explanation for it.
Potatoes, patatas....

Wtf?

LimeKiwi · 03/06/2019 19:39

Definitely, sad really.

placemats · 03/06/2019 19:39

I have issues! The irony.

Save me. Save me from ever telling the truth about anything.

Fake news all the way then. Is it?

LimeKiwi · 03/06/2019 19:41

Save me. Save me from ever telling the truth about anything

It isn't the truth though.
You're sounding more troubled with issues the more you post.

Mockery is a weapon that’s been used against feminists since feminism began. Have fun!

Eh? Who's that aimed at Confused

placemats · 03/06/2019 19:44

I do love to post a picture of my new nails in a rather dull and matt colour that is blaaannnd.

Plus I did it using a claw hand, without a thought of moisturising beforehand (no pun intended). The result looked rather like a witches hand.

Oh woe is me, woe is me, I'm disconsolate. Someone told me the TRUTH!

Then, I weep, weeeeeppppp, weeeeeeepppp, tears when someone says they look aged and the colour is crap.

Toil and bubble. Mwah! xxxxx

DecomposingComposers · 03/06/2019 19:45

Save me. Save me from ever telling the truth about anything.

It wasn't the truth, it was your opinion and not a very nice one at that and who died and left you in charge of judging the appearance of others?

Not content with what you said yesterday you now compound it by adding the claw hands comment too. How in any way is that truth?
