"a bunch of nasty women with short hair"

is how India Willoughby describes the people she thinks have influenced the Scout's very sensible decision.
Is it a compulsory feature of womanhood, appropriated or not, to have long hair??! Confused

I was once told that blokes like long hair on women because you can use it to hold and control during sex. Something to grab on to

There is definitely something in that.

I've always liked long haired ( male) rock singers. I do like long hair on young, good looking men. I have short hair myself.

Justhadathought · 27/05/2019 19:16

Funnily enough most gay men I know are a bit scared of drag queens

There's nothing more scary than a vituperative 'woman'.

KittensinaBlender · 27/05/2019 19:16

I’ve got long ringlets and rosy cheeks but hairy legs and very sensible shoes - I’m a fucking chimera.

Glad to see the Scouts have seen sense.

Willoughby can bang the drum of femininity all they like but they will never be able to drag themselves into femaleness.

Justhadathought · 27/05/2019 19:21

Teenage girls are generally much more conventionally feminine than in my day - long hair and make-up are de rigueur for the modern female teenager. Quite depressing, really. At 16, I hardly knew anyone who wore make-up except on a night out, and plenty of us had short hair

Yes, we do seem to have regressed. Gender stereotypes are much more pronounced now in our consumeristic, plastic, pink, Disney'fied world. Consumer culture ( American in origin) has packaged up gender stereotypes and sold them to us.

I'm not sure how accurate this view is, but I suspect that American popular culture is responsible for much of this. Combined with the conventional religiosity of the U.S, no wonder the trans thing has taken off big there.

UrsulaPandress · 27/05/2019 19:57

On Woman’s Hour today a newsreader was told to get her hair cut as audiences would take her more seriously. And viewers wrote in to say her flowing licks were too distracting.

Contain thyself woman.

MenuPlant · 27/05/2019 20:46

An Alice band?

Wtf

UrsulaPandress · 27/05/2019 20:48

Licks? Locks obv.

ScottishDoll · 27/05/2019 20:49

So cover up distracting hair, what about the ankles are they dangerous too? Angry

I had short hair but the cowlick refused to behave so now I have sloth locks that avoid the salon. Also my neck gets cold in winter and hair makes a good scarf. The dcs would concur it is useful for hanging onto so it spends most time tied up or it gets decorated with cheese sauce and that sort of thing.

I do like long hair on a lovely man I have to say.

Where are all the Drag Kings?

That's what I want to know.

ZebrasAreBras · 27/05/2019 22:26

My hair is longer than India Willoughby's. So sorry, India - I'm clearly "womaning" better than you. Or it might just be my XX chromosomes, who knows?

My DH had hair as long as mine when I met him Wink He was bloody gorgeous. His is short now. It didn't make him any more or less a man.

ZebrasAreBras · 27/05/2019 22:36

Can I just say (hopefully without being deleted) that I think India exemplifies some of the worst excesses of trans ideology.

All I think of when I hear India's name is India shouting "I Am A Real Woman" at the other (all female) BB inmates.

I know India doesn't do violent threats or anything like that - but some of the things India does are really damaging - hairy legs on women = "dirty", "short-haired" = insult. It's just awful. India seems to think that a male performing societal-prescribed femininity is more of a woman than an actual woman with short hair and hairy legs.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/05/2019 22:37

i look awesome with short hair

I have had many comments from women saying they feel they can’t carry it off

I have a very feminine face though

Im not nasty though...i think nasty people tend to judge others by their appearance

So possibly India needs to rethink their comments...sounding quite nasty there

FloralBunting · 27/05/2019 22:43

I am so nasty, and I rock very cool short hair. Frankly, I'm fucking gorgeous.

And I'm a woman. So there's that.

londonmarathonhalfwaypoint · 27/05/2019 22:44

Well India I have long hair, smooth legs and loads of make up and still think you are full of shite.

R0wantrees · 27/05/2019 23:06

"let that penetrate"

littlbrowndog · 27/05/2019 23:09

No,thanks rowan. No penetrating. 😂😂

AncientLights · 27/05/2019 23:18

I'd never seen that BB clip before. What an amazing lack of self-awareness India has. And that walk.....

R0wantrees · 27/05/2019 23:22

Im quoting not instructing.
I don't think Ive ever said those words to a woman, especially not whilst stabbing my finger at them.

Maybe its an age thing?
Maybe its a sex thing?
Maybe its a rowantree thing?

Hmm
terfsandwich · 28/05/2019 00:31

Wow just watched that clip. Wow.

Wow.

The body language as India slumps in the door.

Wow.

NotTerfNorCis · 28/05/2019 07:34

This just shows that people who identify as the opposite sex have to uphold gender.

The YouTube star Contrapoints did something similar recently. Contrapoints suggested that women in academia who don't wear make up are suppressing their natural femininity in order to be taken seriously. Both CP and Willoughby believe the essence of being a woman is not biology but stereotypical feminine traits, particularly wanting long hair , shaved legs, make up etc. Famous TRA Julia Serano also argues that feminism should focus on people with feminine traits, not on people with female biology. This is why trans ideology is so regressive.

DodoPatrol · 28/05/2019 08:11

Just watched that clip. Oh good grief.

We all know that tense wariness as some unpredictable pissed-off bloke prowls up squaring his shoulders.

India might like to have a rethink about reminding women of that with India’s every action.

MenuPlant · 28/05/2019 10:17

There was also that v funny piece by a trans person who was a goth, complaining that goth boys wearing eyeliner made it super difficult for the trans person to indicate what gender they were presenting as and it would all be much better for trans people if only women wore makeup.

At the root of this is the problem that many many people are gender non conforming to a greater or lesser extent, and very very few conform all the time. And this causes issues for trans people such as India, their approach is based on being recognised as female by adhering to the trappings of femininity, for this to work, all women must do this. Hence the anger at women who don't eg shave legs or have long hair. This anger is built on top of old school sexism /lesbophobia.

littlbrowndog · 28/05/2019 10:21

I know rowan. 😂

I have medium length hair and short legs but know am a woman.

Yeah I thought what iw said was aimed at lesbians tbh

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 28/05/2019 10:23

I'm very confused by the fact that you can't say anything against any trans people and they can present how they like blah blah but she's allowed to say 'short hair' like it's an insult.

But what if I am non binary? I have boobs and long hair and hairy legs. I must be non binary.

HELP ME INDIA.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 28/05/2019 10:31

India was shocking on BB
