I was called a uterus haver, in a what'sapp chat, aimed at promoting female health,in a family chat...
The person who sent it is very woke, does lots for the community, lgbt and sporting.
I didn't reply as did no one else.
I said to my partner that it is an attempt at normalising that language, the one that can't say woman...

OP posts:

But this isn't about health education, health campaigns or engaging the greatest number.

And that was in response to your own point!

DecomposingComposers · 12/05/2019 13:45

If they see it on a billboard and think it probably doesn't apply, how likely are they to google it and read the small print? Women have cervixes. Even those women who identify as men. Anyone of the opposite sex does not.

I don't know how you overcome that. I can't remember when I last saw a billboard explaining smear tests or cervical cancer. But I also can't recall ever seeing a billboard that was a page of text either. They are meant to be eye catching and convey a message quickly as people pass them. Who, actually, will read it all the way through to decide if it applies to them or not? Then you have language barriers to consider too.

The info sent out with the invitation to cervical screening is good. I think that is enough for any woman to know what a cervix is and if she has one. I don't think that every advert has to contain a page of anatomy and physiology plus descriptions of various surgeries in order to get the message across.

At some point their has to be a level of personal responsibility for your own body and health.

Ereshkigal · 12/05/2019 13:46

At some point there has to be a level or not pandering to this nonsensical ideology.

Ereshkigal · 12/05/2019 13:46

Ereshkigal · 12/05/2019 13:49

At some point there has to be the realisation that identifying as something doesn't mean you actually are that thing and that it's extremely unreasonable to expect everything to change because of it.

DecomposingComposers · 12/05/2019 13:49

It's not just about the OP. This is a discussion about a feminist issue in FWR. Not AIBU.

How is it not about the OP? The OP posted about her family whatsapp chat. Again, I would understand if they had said "uterus haver" that the OP would have a more general point about the word "woman" being erased but they didn't say that. And what they did say could be read differently depending on the context.

Ereshkigal · 12/05/2019 13:49

At some point those in positions of power need to say, ok, that's going too far.

Ereshkigal · 12/05/2019 13:52

But none of these realisations ever appear to happen. Why is that?

DecomposingComposers · 12/05/2019 13:53

And you know that was the meaning behind that whatsapp message? I don't see how you can because we don't even know what was actually said, nor the context that it was said in and interestingly the OP has disappeared. Does that not make you question their motives, even slightly?

I thought everyone on here was on high alert from those looking for screen grabs? Does this not make you even slightly suspicious given the very odd op and subsequent change of story?

Ereshkigal · 12/05/2019 13:57

I'm making a general point. Not engaging with any more derailing about the OP.

DecomposingComposers · 12/05/2019 13:58

Surely that is the definition of derailing though, not sticking to the op?

CaptSkippy · 12/05/2019 13:59

Women and transmen

That should do it. That should be both inclusive for the wokey woke and women who are not that well versed in their own anatomy or who don't know if they have their cervix removed or not.

Sounds like a good solution where politics does not get in the way of people's health.

DecomposingComposers · 12/05/2019 14:01

Except that if they info says "women and trans men should have a smear test" are these women who don't know what a cervix is or if they have them going to go along to their test and not have the first idea about what they're going for?

That's very worrying.

CaptSkippy · 12/05/2019 14:03

But at least they know it's a campaign that is speaking to them.

Ereshkigal · 12/05/2019 14:06

As you yourself said Decomposing they can explain further in the small print. Maybe start another thread on the need to educate people about their bodies? I would absolutely support it.

S1naidSucks · 12/05/2019 14:06

Was it really that difficult for the woke wanker to say ‘all WOMEN with a cervix’? People can try to excuse her language all they like, but you know rightly it’s about removing the word woman from any discussion about WOMEN’S health in order to pander to trans people who claim to be of the other sex. It’s feck all to do with educating women about their cervix.

It’s all to do with erasing the word women while describing females in order to use it for trans people who claim that they are not men.

DecomposingComposers · 12/05/2019 14:16

We don't really know that though do we? The full post could have been "As you know, I had a hysterectomy last year so this no longer applies to me but can I urge all of you that have a cervix...".

There are some instances where this would seem ok. We don't know the circumstances though and given the OP chose to completely fabricate what was said originally I'm not tending to believe that her update is entirely true either.

Ireland is becoming tediously woke. I despair of friends I once thought of as sensible coming out with the most ridiculous drivel on this topic and it's largely going unquestioned because of fear.

Ereshkigal · 12/05/2019 14:37

Relevant thread. Cancer Research UK have changed their wording to be more sensible:

CRUK - "Cervix havers" update

L1nkedOut · 12/05/2019 15:28

Yes I agree Ludog. I work with a woman who set up the feminist club at her college and we agree on a lot of issues, but she now races to get behind the trans agenda without thinking for a moment!
If you speak out, you have to go and stand with the bigots. Like there are only two corners now. Insufferably woke and Breda O'Brien. Very few people seem to get this issue.

I totally agree. Women of Ireland have fought for so long to be treated as equals, and only now getting limited rights to abortion, yet are now standing back and handing their rights over to others. It’s very bloody depressing.

It’s even more depressing her, in the North, where we still don’t have rights to abortion services but, yet again women are handing their hard won rights to others.

Endofthedays · 12/05/2019 18:17

Yes, all 13 year olds get leaflets about cervical cancer, do biology at school, and yes I have previously told DD about cervical cancer and cervixes.

But still, given that it is an internal body that most of us never see, touch or even think about on a day to day basis, she probably forgot. Like loads of women and girls will do.

That's what I don't understand...we've seen what happens when religious beliefs are accepted unquestionably and yet we welcome the new religion without one single critical thought! (Well WE don't but you get what I mean)

7Days · 12/05/2019 23:56

Actually, when you think of it.... Remember the Holy pictures in your grannies house? A soft faced, long haired Jesus, in flowing robes. Pointing to his burning heart , every time you sinned and went against his message it flamed all the more.
There are parallels.
