WTF Times: 'schoolboys die in cliff fall'

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 09/05/2019 06:54

How about: schoolboys AND THEIR MOTHER are brutally murdered by violent man?

I am so sick of the way this stuff is reported. If murdering your family is a valid response to 'not being able to see a way forward' then why aren't people doing it all the time?

Ffs, they were murdered Sad

Erythronium · 09/05/2019 18:23

It's a the ultimate outcome of domestic violence. The result of misogyny. If they started recording DV and men's murders of their female partners and children as hate crimes, the statistics on hate crime would go through the roof. That's why they are left unanalysed because It wouldn't do to see how much women are hated in our world.

RuffleCrow · 09/05/2019 18:23

They really are the lowest of the low

KTara · 09/05/2019 18:26

I know I had the same reaction when I read this - the mother was brutally stabbed and the boys were drugged and thrown to their deaths.

Lasttobepickedatgames · 09/05/2019 18:50

"Inexplicable puzzle" I can explain it . . . The male in the relationship murdered his wife and children then killed himself. His reasons for doing so are a complete insignificance because they provide no defence for what he did. Isn't there now some regulation regarding press reporting on criminals who commit murders of this particular MO? That title is appalling it reads like an accident.

oatmilk4breakfast · 09/05/2019 18:57

I wrote a letter (email) of complaint to editor and reporter.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 09/05/2019 19:38

Um, why can I no longer access the Times website? I’m a subscriber!

Erythronium · 09/05/2019 19:57

It probably wasn't the reporter who chose the headline. The copy editor usually does that.

Loopytiles · 09/05/2019 20:18

The headline was shit, so is the content of the article.

AspergersMum · 09/05/2019 22:42

The journalist tweeted someone, I'm assuming Venezuelan press, earlier today, asking for more info on Laura. I think the article will develop or hopefully be replaced by a victim-friendly version.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/05/2019 23:41

Um, why can I no longer access the Times website? I’m a subscriber!

Maybe you've cleared cookies or something like that and need to log in again? I find I need to re-login to the app occasionally for no apparent reason.

Lumene · 10/05/2019 00:30

I wrote a letter (email) of complaint to editor and reporter.

The Editor is the person to target. The reporter will have no control over the headline picked

I still do not understand why newspapers do this with domestic violence stories. The truth is more newsworthy sounding, it’s normally hard to find headlines turned down and not up.

pallisers · 10/05/2019 00:41

I'm inclined to agree with this.

In an ideal world I also think the words "wife" or "partner" or "children" shouldn't be used in these headlines. "Man kills woman and two children" captures exactly what happened. No need to make their existence referential to his.

YouBumder · 10/05/2019 00:45

That is just absolutely fucking disgusting. I’m absolutely appalled.

notawidow2020 · 10/05/2019 01:00

There were many comments under the article (saying about the same as what's said here) and then they disappeared, without any amendment to the article or its title (which were written by different people). Is this the sort of thing that the Press Gazette covers? Or Private Eye? "Down the memory hole" used to be about articles, but now it's whole comment threads too.

HumberElla · 10/05/2019 01:02

Awful, awful reporting and perpetuating the lie that men who kill are simply misguided souls who believe they are doing right by their families.

This was murder. Thoroughly planned, highly organised and committed in cold blood by a nasty controlling piece of shit.

ScottishDoll · 10/05/2019 01:38

Abused family drugged and violently murdered in sustained and vicious calculated attack by cowardly vindictive father.

Disgusting article. How dare this drivel pass as Times standard reporting? Speak for victims not their fucked up murderers.

managedmis · 10/05/2019 01:41

So the dad murdered the kids and stabbed the mother?

Why is the info so badly presented?

Why isn't it factual?

ScottishDoll · 10/05/2019 02:00

It's worse than inaccurate, it seeks to excuse murder

Oliversmumsarmy · 10/05/2019 02:07

He couldn’t see a way forward

Well f**k off then and leave don’t start making your mind up for other people.

Maybe he couldn’t find God because he thought he was God taking away other peoples lives

staydazzling · 10/05/2019 02:12

wow there are no words, God rest there souls AngrySad

Loopytiles · 10/05/2019 06:45

I’m wondering about complaining to or about the coroner too. But first need more info.

LangCleg · 10/05/2019 08:52

He couldn’t see a way forward

I'll fix that.

He couldn’t see a way forward and so, because he was a violent, controlling abuser who felt his wife and children were his property, not people in their own right, murdered them before he killed himself so that they could not live after he was dead.

There you go, The Times. They call it coercive control leading to family annihilation, dontchaknow. It's against the law, dontchaknow.

Loopytiles · 10/05/2019 08:54

It was the police officer and coroner quoted who said that. Their quotes are a concern too, focusing on the perpetrator’s motivation and concerns.

thelastgoldeneagle · 10/05/2019 09:18

This article has more info: www.mylondon.news/news/west-london-news/twickenham-dad-drugged-family-murdered-16243701

The killer's suicide notes read

*'I’m so sorry. I cannot let my children live any more in a world of despair, endless pain and suffering'.

"There is no hope in this life. I cannot find God to get faith and hope."*

'I cannot let'? That's telling.

And the corner also said: "He was a family man, but there’s something clearly on his mind at that time in relation to the letter that he wrote to family, that he had become very disillusioned with his outlook on life and potentially so there was no fall back, no hope and I say presumably, that pushed him down this path where the actions that he took were clearly wholly and grossly wrong but it’s quite hard.

"I think he could not see a way forward."

But 'it's quite hard'?? WTF was 'quite hard'? Incredible that so much sympathy is being shown to him.
