I can’t believe what I’ve just watched. Eddie Izzard is on Joe Rogan saying ALL bathrooms should be gender neutral and completely dismissed the concerns women have that Joe brought up. He dismissed it as “people always complain when there’s change”

The whole thing is so selfish and entitled.

It all starts to look like desperate and pathetic bits for attention

If Izzard is serious about a career in politics, Izzard should make an effort to be much better briefed and have the evidence to support their arguments prepared.

Eddie Izzard is fiercely intelligent. I think the reasons he makes such pathetic arguments (it stopped bullying in some school somewhere, don't ask me any details) are twofold:

  1. There really are no strong arguments. Neither sex wants to share bathrooms (in most situations) for lots of practical reasons. Thinking too hard about his philosophy of 'everyone just be nice and it will all be fine' would show up the problems (like removing urinals will not reduce ques).
  1. He's not serious about politics or anything else. He's flitted around so many goals in his career, but in recent years seems particularly incapable of thinking deeply and sticking to something.

No thanks. What if it were those stupid toilets with massive gaps where u can see people and their feet or ones with no door!!! Oh hi there how are you today? Changing s tampon with a strange man looking on....yes we would love that.

IrishGal21 · 05/05/2019 13:12

Who does Eddy actually identify with. he is not a 'transwoman', he is just a bisexual bloke who wears women's clothes and happens to speak french very well lol

I liked his comedy but it is summed up well that he changes his look according to his politics/ etc

SophoclesTheFox · 05/05/2019 13:14

Bitterly disappointed in Eddie. Loved him in his action transvestite and multiple marathon iterations.

Not loving his latest iteration as woker than thou lefty dude bro falling over himself to give away women’s rights that he doesn’t have the first idea about. His referring to his “girl genes and boy genes”, when he’s in his fifties made me feel quite ill.

Fleurish1 · 05/05/2019 13:16

I think he's talking from a place of male privilege. Going to the toilet is a need, not something people just do for fun, so to add a potential danger to women and girls is just insanity. Nobody wants to fear going to the toilet in a public place, making all toilets unisex would undoubtedly add this for a lot of people.

Lamaha · 05/05/2019 13:16

I don't know who this man is and I don't care. I do care about women's spaces. He wants to abolish urinals. Well, as one MNer said above:

How do Men feel having no urinals and standing in a line ?

Urinals make it quicker.

Not only that. If there are no urinals men will pee in the cubicles, sprinkling the floor with urine (this always happens as the loos are too low; the pee sprays and leaves a film on the floor). They will either pee on the seat as well, or leave it up. They won't clean up their urine. They will leave the cubicle door open when they pee. The place will stink.
And women will lose their privacy.

Men don't know about these matters. How dare they speak so flippantly? The entitlement is infuriating.
I'm also disappointed that Joe didn't argue more robustly, as he did on the sport discussion.

Men. Grrrr. (I know. #notallmen)

LangCleg · 05/05/2019 13:16

I have a list of men whom I shall never forgive for their betrayal of women.

Izzard is near to the top of it.

There isn't a side of fuck far enough for him to fuck off to, so far as I am concerned.

AloneLonelyLoner · 05/05/2019 13:16

What an utter turd you are Izzard. Another Middle Ages white dude telling women what's good for them. Fucker.

SophoclesTheFox · 05/05/2019 13:20

Middle Ages white dude

Grin yeah, I find his take on women’s issues pretty regressive, but maybe not that regressive...Dunno though, maybe men telling women what we should think hasn’t changed much since then.

How does that work if men can go into the ladies and find out the code word?

And where do we take our drinks?

If I was killing time between shifts or waiting for a friend and it wasnt worth going home after work I would sit on my own in a pub for a bit.

Naturally I would take my drink to the toilet with me maybe place it on a windowsill or something.

Now what do women do?

Crinkle77 · 05/05/2019 13:29

larrygraysonsdoor they are public toilets

LarryGreysonsDoor · 05/05/2019 13:29

What about these toilets that have notices telling women that if they are being harassed etc they can say “X word” to the bar staff, who will get help and keep them safe.

And the toilets in my local A and E where there are signs telling women that if they are being abused then they can use the phone in there to call someone who will help. Sometimes the women's toilets are the only place a woman is away from her abuser.

I get the feeling that some men think that women all hang around in toilets chatting while touching up their make up.

HermioneWeasley · 05/05/2019 13:31

Well, fortunately women’s rights are not his to give away,

So he can fuck off.

wordsmithsforever · 05/05/2019 13:31

Tool. Used to like him - not his rights to give away.

andyoldlabour · 05/05/2019 13:31

JessicaWakefieldSV

"My husband is also not interested in talking to strangers while he goes to the toilet, especially women and that includes me. Our society has evolved to do certain things in private and in sex separated spaces. Change is not needed."

I couldn't agree more, and I think the vast majority of folk think this way as well.
The media is trotting out all these fringe characters, atypical people, to dictate to us, the majority what should be acceptable.
It is not acceptable and never will be, and when you examine this behaviour, it isn't so far removed from a certain "mrballwaxer".

OrchidInTheSun · 05/05/2019 13:32

And it's women who clean up men's piss.

Fuck off Eddie. Out of our toilets, out of politics. Hateful man

LarryGreysonsDoor · 05/05/2019 13:32

they are public toilets

Your work toilets are public toilets? Ones that any random passing member of the public can use?

I admit they do sound great, and in principle I like the idea, but it rather depends on the space they serve.

Fairenuff · 05/05/2019 13:33

Being hassled with unwanted sexual attention from a creepy man.

Polite female 'Excuse me, I just need to pop to the ladies'

Creepy man 'Yeah, me too, lets go together'

terryleather · 05/05/2019 13:39

Izzard is yet another in a looooong line of sanctimonious privileged white males who things that the opinions they fart out have relevance. They don't.

Eddie, women's rights belong to women. They do not belong to you or your colonising brethren to be amended or given away to any male who demands them.

Now fuck off, there's a good chap.

titchy · 05/05/2019 13:40

I used to love Eddie Izzard. He was funny, intelligent, kind and genuinely happy to be a gender nonconforming man.

These days he's just your standard middle aged pervy bloke.

JugzyMalone · 05/05/2019 13:48

Another one who used to LOVE him and now wishes he'd fuck off Sad
