I can’t believe what I’ve just watched. Eddie Izzard is on Joe Rogan saying ALL bathrooms should be gender neutral and completely dismissed the concerns women have that Joe brought up. He dismissed it as “people always complain when there’s change”

The whole thing is so selfish and entitled.

Women's rights are not his to give away.

Datun · 06/05/2019 11:30

feel free to not consent,

Ugh.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/05/2019 11:31

So he's a white, rich, straight guy, yes?

So how does he even think he has a valid point to make here? So he likes to wear female clothing - so he things that this means that all men should be able to mix with women in the loos?

Justhadathought · 06/05/2019 11:31

I need to get on with my day - one point I will make, is that it would be beneficial to the cause if more of the great brains here went elsewhere to discuss this with others in less enlightened corners of the Internet. The more people who do this, the more likely we are to reach the critical mass of women speaking up and expressing their opinions to be able to stop this. Every new school/uni/library that opens sees more unisex toilets. It is taking over. They can't ban all women

It's not the internet that we need to be targeting, it is the general public, out there on the streets and in our towns and cities. Most internet arenas are small and exclusive to people who share similar views. Out in the real world most people have not got a clue what is going on. We also need to be targeted people in positions of power and authority. It's largely a waste of time trying convert people who have already signed up for something.

allmywhat · 06/05/2019 11:33

feel free to not consent,

... because your consent is irrelevant.

That's what he's saying, isn't it? Thanks for that, Eddie "I don't need your consent" Izzard.

TigerCubScout · 06/05/2019 11:38

In the clip in the OP, Joe Rogan says, towards the end, "huh, there are no real answers. What do we do here?".

Keep toilets and sports single sex - that's a pretty simple answer.

IrishGal21 · 06/05/2019 12:24

IN a crematorium???? ffs when someone is feeling esp vulnerable the last thing you want is to see a man there

AndreaBiscuit · 06/05/2019 12:29

He's a knob.

PickleC · 06/05/2019 12:39

I am so fed up of being told that we have to accept shared facilities and that if we dont we are somehow odd, prudish or prejudiced.

On holiday overseas there were some unisex toilets in a bar .... full on urinals one end with a very low wall, cubicles along a wall. They stank to high heaven, piss everywhere and what was striking is that if a man walked in and saw me they always did a doubletake and apologised. I dont think they were any more comfortable than i was. The women on the trip still see those as the worst toilets we have ever used.

Can I imagine my gran happy to access facilities that are unisex, or my sister with a young baby, or colleagues of multiple faiths? No. And yet we need to 'get over it' apparently. And I cannot help thinking we are being told this because we are women and all the old prejudices about our rights and opinions are still out there in a shallow grave ready to rise again when another group's feelings are deemed more important. At best there is obliviousness to the discomfort and risks we face and at worst this is recognised and dismissed. An occupational hazard. Something we need to put up and shut up about ..... after all what's a few assaults? Ladies know your place.

By comparison a recent trip the a theatre saw womens, mens and unisex toilets. Everyone could use facilities they felt comfortable with and were safe for them. How long before every trip out I make or every day at work has a search for non unisex toilets I feel happy to use though?

RedDogsBeg · 06/05/2019 13:04

PickleC that is the solution - males only, females only and unisex and the designation to be absolute on SEX, not feelings, not identity, not gender, just plain old sex which you can't change with or without a GRC. Go in the toilet for your sex or the one for both sexes, simple.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 06/05/2019 13:20

Women have always been told that we're prudish if we don't do what men want us to do. If we're lucky. Usually it's worse things.
Water off a duck's back, and no I won't wash off theirs.

Mumfun · 06/05/2019 13:35

He used to be a hero of mine. Loved that he dressed as he pleased and was comfortable with it..

Has become a woman hating complete knob.

And his comedy has gone down hill at same time. Not the person he was -in more ways than one

DodoPatrol · 06/05/2019 13:40

Peaches, I left a moderate comment on another forum suggesting that mixed-sex toilets were unkind to girls. I had several almost instant responses hoping that my children would come out as trans and then commit suicide because of my bigotry.

I don’t know these savage nitwits nor want to. They don’t know me. All the same, I was somewhat shaken.

There are some vile people out there. Good luck with continuing to raise the discussion.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 06/05/2019 13:49

It's not the internet that we need to be targeting, it is the general public, out there on the streets and in our towns and cities.

You're right, Justhadathought. While out leafleting over several weeks about the GRA last autumn only two out of dozens of people who spoke to us disagreed with us.

Most people reacted in this way:

  1. They had no idea that Self ID was even being considered before speaking to us.
  1. They were totally astonished that something so important and far reaching was being considered without anything in the media or put out by government.
  1. When faced with the idea of people being able to change sex legally overnight people very soon recognized the potential for abuse. Men spotted this immediately, interestingly. I assume some lucky women have not been exposed to predatory male behaviour, but men know how nasty other men can be.
  1. Apart from the two I mentioned, everyone else said single sex facilities should remain. The dads really didn't like the idea of men in the Ladies with their young daughters.

When I've talked to people in real life the hard bit is convincing them that some of this batshit stuff is really happening.

Once they're convinced the conversation follows the same path as described above. It's only in rarefied circles that people believe TWAW. Outside such circles people may feel sorry for them but they think they're mentally ill men, not women.

Oh yes, these are the people who are on the right side of history, for sure.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/05/2019 14:56

ugh. Eddie Izzard: the Jim Davidson years

why do so many male comedians chose to come out as hateful misogynists in late middle age?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 06/05/2019 15:19

Yep. The reason these Dads don't go in the loos with their daughters is because of their consideration for other women and girls. Now of course they legitimately could (I'm sure they may all find an inner Pips Bunce when it comes to it, once aware) and frankly bring on the Dads, given a choice between them and an AGP who thinks woman = dress and heels I'd rather have the Dads. Id prefer single sex but I'd rather everything be actually honestly and above board mixed sex and in with decent men who give a damn about young girls than this mixed sex by stealth, only letting in those who at a minimum don't care about what girls want.

I agree, but if it's all just one big mixed sex toilet block the decent men will be forced there too (and I suspect there'd be a fast return to single sex)

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/05/2019 15:38

Eddie also clearly hasn't considered moon cups.

Floisme · 06/05/2019 15:41

In the clip in the OP, Joe Rogan says, towards the end, "huh, there are no real answers.
I think I'm more disappointed in Joe Rogan than Eddie Izzard. I'd long ceased expecting anything more than Izzard but I'd thought Rogan was smart enough to see through this nonsense - although I guess the fact that he hardly ever seems to interview women should have been clue enough.

Anyway Joe, of course there are answers:
Men's toilet.
Women's toilet.
Mixed sex toilet.
It would cost money but maybe Stonewall could use some of their funds to launch a grant.

Michelleoftheresistance · 06/05/2019 16:41

Neuro there are men who would absolutely love to help women wash out bloody mooncups, just as there are men who love to wait for women to leave stalls and then rummage for bloody (and hopefully still warm) tampons and pads to insert in their various orifices to enjoy their fetish.

I have no idea if Izzard is one of them, but he is clear that he's wholly up for women being used by men in any way men see fit, and does not believe women as a species are allowed to say no to men. So he's actively supporting that. The same way he's supporting homophobia, disablism, racism and discriminating against women on grounds of religion and belief, by coercing the above women to either submit to being used by men or lose access to provision or services.

What is it he says about that very very fine line between looking cool and looking like a dick?

BettyDuMonde · 06/05/2019 16:55

Consent isn’t democratic.

A single no is a total veto.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/05/2019 17:04

Just like there are men who discuss on social media the best way to approach young (very young) women in public toilets and ask them about their tampons and offer to assist them? Then photograph themselves in a ladies loo with girls in the background.

Not creepy at all. Just a person needing to take a pee.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 06/05/2019 17:17

I reckon it's time to call out creeps like this every single time. Denying women and children the right to privacy and sex segregated spaces is predatory behaviour.

Those who deny others their rights to privacy, dignity and safety need to own it.They are using the tactics of predators.
