Well done to the times!

You thoroughly deserve all the awards won here:

www.societyofeditors.org/events/national-press-awards/national-press-awards-winners/

Also pleased to see Sanchez Manning of the MoS acknowledged with an award, she too has done excellent work on this.

Great article and long overdue.

I don't get this thing about the effects of puberty blockers being safe or unknown. Surely the risks have always been made clear to parents of children suffering from precocious puberty and the side effects would be on the label, as with any other drug?

FermatsTheorem · 08/04/2019 08:51

Excellent set of articles! Opened the Times app this morning and thought "aha... here it comes, the long-awaited Lucy Bannerman article..." only to find there were 4 of them.

Glad to see it focusing in on the point I've been making for a long time, namely that you can't have the sort of discussion which would lead to genuinely informed consent with a child. Partly because for younger children, showing them videos of exactly what's involved in "sex reassignment surgery" would be too traumatising, and partly because for tweens/young teens, you can't discuss loss of future sexual function at an age appropriate, but suitably detailed level.

Teachers/social workers - please leave hard copies in staff rooms/offices?

hackmum · 08/04/2019 08:52

Wow! I hadn't seen this thread so imagine my delight when I went to the supermarket this morning and saw the front page of the Times.

At last. At bloody last.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/04/2019 08:53

Someone was asking about sharetokens.

Firstly, I think you can c&p the ones from this thread.

I've got a subscription, I use the app on the iPad - theres a share icon in the bottom right corner, click that then choose the mail option (you may need to set up which mail app you use somehow, can't quite remember) then c&p the link in the template email which should appear.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 08/04/2019 08:53

I second everyone who says up yours BBC
Did you learn nothing from saville?

Thank you to the Times and Lucy Flowers
It’s fantastic to be able to hope that people are listening.
This was never about adult trans people, we are not transphobic, it has always been about our children.
Maybe finally they will have a voice.

LizzieSiddal · 08/04/2019 08:57

So the BBC newspaper headlines page has the Times front page after The Sun and even The Star!

We can see you BBC! This will not be forgotten.

CarolinePooter · 08/04/2019 09:00

My elderly husband positively sprinted in with The Times this morning! He knew I'd be extremely pleased to see the front page. I am sadly not surprised at the BBC. I used to defend them but their biased stance on this is unacceptable.

As for politicians, I hope this gives some of them a slight nudge to be less fucking woke. I know most of them have been busy saving their own skins recently. However, the threats to children and women will be happening for years, and it started on their watch.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 08/04/2019 09:01

Wow. Thank you for the share tokens. This is amazing. Thanks to The Times, this is well overdue and I hope now we can have the honest conversations so desperately needed.

I’m actually still in shock at how hard hitting it is!

Fazackerley · 08/04/2019 09:03

Not a whisper. We know what you are doing BBC.

I’ve pasted this thread link on to the BBC bias thread btw www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3296433-BBC-Bias-Collecting-Examples-here
Just in case anyone wants to ask the BBC why this Times front page today would be treated differently to any other.. Hmm

Knicknackpaddyflak · 08/04/2019 09:07

So far the reactions from well known AWAs is quite nicely demonstrating exactly what The Times is whistleblowing on - even to whistleblow and share facts is 'hate speech' and 'transphobia'.

Journalists now please join up two more obvious and fully factual, evidenced dots to this:

  1. That the highly political lobby groups such as Mermaids, Stonewall and Action For Trans Health, with their unbalanced political extremist perspective, have trained and funded multiple national govt groups including NHS staff, the police, many schools and the NSPCC. See: policy capture. See: misquoting the Equality Act to the detriment of safeguarding, women and girls. See: active attempts to prevent other voices being heard at all (Joan McAlpine, lobby group responses to SG.)

  2. Why would teenaged girls be so afraid to be lesbians and turning to trans as an alternative? See: Mermaids trying to prevent homosexual women whistleblowing on the pressure from Mermaids, Stonewall et al for homosexual women to 'get over' their homosexuality where it excludes men who wish to be treated as women. The exclusion of lesbian women from Pride. The death and rape threats towards lesbian women. The attempt to erase and destroy homosexuality where it interferes with the sexual freedoms of men. That this is happening in plain sight with full governmental knowledge and the govt and politicians of all parties are either behind it or afraid to say anything.

Watergate looks like a fucking cbeebies cartoon by comparison.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 08/04/2019 09:08

Just in case anyone wants to ask the BBC why this Times front page today would be treated differently to any other..

Whoever runs the news app which pulls up the day's headlines has also suppressed and hidden this.

Lamaha · 08/04/2019 09:13

Great timing too for Posie's Lesbians on Chairs event.
I'm so delighted about this. Now off to read the second two articles and the DM one as well -- there goes my morning!

Carowiththegoodhair · 08/04/2019 09:21

A RL friend, not on Twitter or FB but a mum from DC’s school who just texted me out of the blue saying

“Morning! Just seen the Times. Assume you have? Incredible.... you must be pleased 👍🏻 xx”

The public is waking up.

MrsSnippyPants · 08/04/2019 09:22

JHB on Talk Radio again now!

nauticant · 08/04/2019 09:22

Yes it will be interesting to see those journalists outside Norovirus Media

Speaking of which:

twitter.com/AaronBastani/status/1115008483689095168

And again, the reliable call of "transphobia" to rally people to the "right" side isn't working like it's supposed to.

MrsSnippyPants · 08/04/2019 09:23

Miranda Yardley on the phone.

Gonzales27 · 08/04/2019 09:25

I was so happy to see this finally being reported well.

But now that I've read it all in black and white I am just feeling so angry and sad for those poor kids Sad

lottiebel123 · 08/04/2019 09:27

the transing of children should be seen as a controversial thing to do, not a normal way to respond to girls who want to play with cars and boys who like pink.

RedToothBrush · 08/04/2019 09:28

Look at the responses to Chief Norovirius.

Given that you'd expect it to be his echochamber, it really isn't.

lottiebel123 · 08/04/2019 09:28

thank God The Times have pushed hard on this.
I think this might be the tipping point for the whole movement.
Make a note of this date in your calendars.

eurochick · 08/04/2019 09:28

It's a real Emperor's New Clothes moment. I've been looking at the trans stuff for a while wondering why most people can't see the obvious. The Times has just gone and pointed out the nudity.
