Following the comment by MrsJamin above I had a look at the responses to Owen Jones' this-article-I-haven't-read-is-disgraceful tweet:

twitter.com/OwenJones84/status/1115021165398056960

It's not the slam dunk he was hoping for.

The only mention I've heard about The Times article on the BBC was a brief one last night on The Westminster Hour on Radio 4.

RedToothBrush · 08/04/2019 08:05

Well Brian Paddick has REALLY nailed his colours to the mast. He retweeted the Patrick Studwick tweet. And Tara Hewitt'a one.

This is Tara's

Tara Hewitt @ tara_hewitt
Trans people make up 1% of the population, this week a trans child had their head stamped on at school & another trans young person was slashed with a knife in the face in public. Yet today The Times has FOUR transphpbic articles targeting trans children. This is sick cruel abuse

ImGenderfree · 08/04/2019 08:06

I’m so hoping we have a series of articles on this over the week.

buzzbobbly · 08/04/2019 08:06

@NotBadConsidering Another one who has just subscribed (turns out I had an account still from years ago). How do I do a share token?

The way I found was to use the email link which opened a new message with the share link in it, then cut and pasted that into whatever I needed.

Thanks buzzbobbly

One thing Owen Jones has got right. He's caught the spirit of the ideologically correct response of "denounce the fact that the articles exist but whatever you do, don't discuss their contents".

Wonderbag · 08/04/2019 08:12

I saw this on the bbc news last night.
Just brilliant ⭐️

RedToothBrush · 08/04/2019 08:13

So we must broadcast about how the trans lobby is homophobic even more then!!

zanahoria · 08/04/2019 08:14

Owen Jones is such a childish fool, I wonder if he will elaborate what exactly in the articles has caused his latest tizzy?

HandsOffMyRights · 08/04/2019 08:17

And there goes Tara again. Cult followers can't help but tweet with references to suicide or violence.
What if, in every tweet we talk about the rising number of sexual offences on girls in schools carried out by boys? The rape. The pregnancies from rape. The physical and mental scars.

I am so angry for girls and women, yet everytime the TRAs tweet there is a male competition to see if TRAs can 'win'. It reminds me of that asshole character in The League of Gentlemen 'Brian'? whose friend's mom dies from a terminal illness, but Brian's mom is healthy and Brian says: "I won 'the moms didn't I?"

Anyway....thank you to Lucy and The Times. I'll be buying a copy. Up yours to The BBC and The Guardian for enabling child abuse.

zanahoria · 08/04/2019 08:18

"denounce the fact that the articles exist but whatever you do, don't discuss their contents".

whilst adding a ridiculous "its just like" argument

EweSurname · 08/04/2019 08:20

Thanks for the share tokens. Tried to archive them but it's not cooperating this morning.

nauticant lots of trans people on twitter seem to all be sharing their strategies on how to avoid these stories by muting "The times" and refusing to share the any mention of it etc. I've seen Zinnia Jones dismiss this by asking who is calling for an end to experimentation and did they have medical expertise, but had ZInnia read the article, it would've been clear that the calls are from medical professionals who worked there!

Someone is agreeing with Owen and says that you can't argue with experts. The experts who have quit their jobs you mean? Bloody hell, these people are thick as mince

Melroses · 08/04/2019 08:21

Wow - the series of articles was the first thing on my twitter feed!

I ran out of free articles yesterday, went to Waitrose and got my free paper on Saturday, so I am going to have to go for a walk and buy a real paper copy whilst they are around!!!

juneau · 08/04/2019 08:23

I'm so pleased to see this! I got into a polite, but heated conversation with a bleeding heart woman at a Christmas party on this very issue. I am appalled that young DC have been treated medically and surgically when many of them may be gay/lesbian, autistic, MH issues or just struggling with the normal issues of identity that so many teens struggle with. This assumption that 'oh they must be trans' is horrendous and such a dangerous assumption to make. So glad too that The Times has put in on the front page. Just waiting now for the oh-so-vocal and vicious trans lobby backlash Sad

LangCleg · 08/04/2019 08:24

Wow! So much happening. Thank you The Times.

Just want to repeat what ChattyLion suggested about emailing the HoC Health Select Committee. Now is the time:

www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/health-and-social-care-committee/membership/

You can email the Chair, any member MP (especially if it’s your own MP) and the secretariat of the committee directly who may pass these things on to the Chair to consider.

Melroses · 08/04/2019 08:28

www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-47848454

Interestingly, the BBC do not mention the times at all in their paper review. The actual picture of the page is second from the bottom.

The BBC news is leading with "Websites face fines over 'harmful' content"

Wouldn't you think a story like this would be ideal for their "clickbait" website?

zanahoria · 08/04/2019 08:31

Guardian ignoring but has an article on how woke Tasmania is on trans issues

but they are taking comments!

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/08/how-tasmania-is-going-from-worst-to-best-on-transgender-human-rights

Pinkpanther473 · 08/04/2019 08:31

I’ve subscribed to the times and will also be buying a paper copy and leaving it at work.

Gonzales27 · 08/04/2019 08:37

Just bought the times! It's totally made my day! Going to really enjoy my train journey now.

OhHolyJesus · 08/04/2019 08:38

Just got my copy, first hard copy newspaper I have bought in years! Will be late for work but it's well worth it. I shall read when quiet and close to tissues as I'm sure it will be a heartbreaking read, but nothing I didn't know already from all of you sharing wisdom and predictions for years.

GrimSisters · 08/04/2019 08:40

Interesting that the Times has commented below each article to the effect that all comments will be subject to a short delay - i.e. pre-moderated

animaginativeusername · 08/04/2019 08:44

@OhHolyJesus same haven't bought an actual 'paper' in years.

Going to read but leave in public place on that page for others to read
