Good things that happen when you wear an "Adult Human Female" hoodie

I live in mine when I'm not at work....

Mainly get smiles from older women and glares from blue haired teenagers.

Wore it on the Brexit March and "like your jumper" worked as a secret handshake to find a new member for our local GC meet-up group

Answered the door to a council election candidate in it today and had a great conversation about what the gender critical grown ups are trying to do to bring the Green party to its senses.

I haven't yet bumped into another hoodie wearer in the wild :)

What has happened to you when you wear yours?

I agree that some people will find it offensive if they believe trans women are women.

I don't believe anyone really believes that, which is why they find this simple statement so challenging.

The reason they keep repeating "trans women are women" is because they are trying to convince themselves as much as anyone else.

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 08:05

I'm GC but think there are better ways to come to agreement than this.

All the concessions GC women have won have come by doing things that TRAs find offensive. It's ok to assert our difference from male people with a simple statement and organise for our own rights. That is part of feminism.

I really think you are wrong.

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 08:07

Absolutely. And I for one am not going to join in. Ever.

This is a political statement, and we are fighting for our political lives.

knitandpearl · 31/03/2019 08:12

You think I'm wrong that wearing a hoody with a slogan on it isn't the best way to reach political agreement?
If only life were that easy I'd have solved world peace at the age of 17 Smile

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 08:13

I find the statement "Trans Women are Women" highly offensive as well as factually inaccurate and gaslighting. Yet it's everywhere. What about my feelings?

Frida of course there's something else to it. The point is that basic biological fact shouldn't be political. It's actually ridiculous that it is.

And what's wrong with wearing a t-shit/hoodie with a message?

It's not breaking any laws, not inciting hate or violence. It's merely stating biological fact. People can get offended, but that's their choice. Literally, their choice. They can choose to read a basic biology textbook and fill in their knowledge gaps too.

birdsdestiny · 31/03/2019 08:21

It always makes me smile when people worry about the feelings of transwoman with regard to the adult human female slogan but give not one care about the feelings of women with regard to the TWAW slogan. Almost as if we were completely different. It's funny how one group's feelings are prioritised. If we are all just women our feelings of offense would carry the same priority. I wonder if people who do this realise how clearly they are emphasising the difference.

Nuffaluff · 31/03/2019 08:25

It is merely stating biological fact. And it’s because a simple statement of biological fact is now controversial is why it works.
A few years ago someone would have worn a sweater saying ‘adult human female’ and people would have thought ‘so what? Of course you are’. Now people see someone wearing it and think ‘woah, that’s a bit much, you shouldn’t say that because women have penises too’, or ‘good for her, she’s brave to wear that in public, I couldn’t.’
The very fact that some pps are stating it is not illegal to wear on this thread shows how close we are coming to not being allowed to say what a woman is.
It’s so fucked up.

Fridasrage · 31/03/2019 08:26

@donquixotedelamancha I'm not sure that the distinction is all that meaningful. Given the political context of the slogan and the background of how it became part of the debate, transwomen will see it as exclusionary. I'm not saying whether people should be offended, just that of course we all know that some people will be offended, and it's daft to pretend that that comes as a surprise.

@Ereshkigal I don't think anyone on this thread is saying that you can't have those feelings.

@axil I haven't said that there is something wrong with the message or that people shouldn't wear the hoodies.

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 08:26

I wonder if people who do this realise how clearly they are emphasising the difference.

I don't think they do. I'm sure they would try not to otherwise, for risk of being invalidating. No TRA would ever have the self awareness to perceive this difference in treatment though, or if they did, they think they're entitled to it.

transwomen will see it as exclusionary.

That's really too bad, or do you think everyone else should tip toe around their feelings?

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 08:29

Do you realise how clearly you are emphasising the difference, Knit?

Please don't @ me. It's unnecessary.

GuitarGeek · 31/03/2019 08:29

If I saw someone wearing a hoodie with trans women are women on, my reaction would also be 🙄. Adults wearing clothes for reactions is just immature. Each 'side' trying to wind each other up is pathetic.

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 08:30

Sorry that was to Frida.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 31/03/2019 08:30

They will be offended in the same way that religious people would be offended if I wore a t-shirt saying ‘the bible is a load of shit’. I am not religious and I don’t believe in God but I wouldn’t broadcast it on a t-shirt as I would be sensitive to the feelings of others. Why pretend that you are totally unable to understand why anyone would be offended by a truthful statement? Lots of people are.

Anyway, winning the argument of whether trans women are women doesn’t take us very far.

knitandpearl · 31/03/2019 08:31

If I walked around in a hoody saying 'immigrants weren't born here' would you think I was a dick?

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 08:32

No, that would be analogous to wearing a T shirt saying "TW are frauds" or Trans Ideology is a load of Shit". This is just a statement affirming what a woman is.

ScipioAfricanus · 31/03/2019 08:33

It is a political statement (in the times we live in), and therefore it will offend some people. It’s not ‘offensive’ in itself by any real standards.

knitandpearl · 31/03/2019 08:34

And yes, hoodies saying TWAW are equally as bad, I've said I'm GC so not sure why ppl are pretending I've said the opposite. I've literally never seen one though and this thread is about the the AHF slogan and why people might see it as goady.

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 08:34

If I walked around in a hoody saying 'immigrants weren't born here' would you think I was a dick?

They're not "immigrants" are they? And the statement doesn't even mention them. Poor analogy.

knitandpearl · 31/03/2019 08:34

Who aren't immigrants? What?!

Spokk · 31/03/2019 08:36

I got a lovely grin from a male cleaner and encouragement and cheers from an old lady when I explained to her why my jumper was offensive.

IM0GEN · 31/03/2019 08:38

Yes wimmin, pipe down. GuitarGeek is here too tell you that you are immature and pathetic for disgreeing with him / her.

Don’t you know what happens to opinionated Wimmin Hmm?
