the This Morning video made me angry.
Surely the presenters were both aware of Posie's argument and understood what she was saying? Or deliberately chose to misunderstand? They're both so desperately trying to appear woke (and it doesn't help that they've known India for years via the media, so even if they think India is attention seeking and draining, they won't own it.)
WTAF is going on? These telly presenters have clearly had their telly diversity training workshops and wont question the logic of anything they've been told. The received wisdom is that it's fine for middle aged fellas to become women because they say they are (despite the fact that India cannot explain what it feels like to be a woman, ignoring Posie's question twice whilst talking in doe eyed victim way, complete opposite of the antagonistic CBB persona) and safeguarding of girls and women (a much much bigger group than Transfolk) is down the gender neutral shitter because who cares about women when we can bang the drum for trans rights? Women's rights are bloody dull really and don't score the same woke points, obviously.

They were very hostile towards Posie Parker, the relationship they have with India Willoughby no doubt significant.
I remember many commenting that Eamon Holmes revealed some pretty clear sexism & misogyny earlier in the program too.

lottiebel123 · 20/03/2019 21:19

it must be hard being Posie Parker and having to deal with utter bullshit non arguments on a daily basis. I wouldn't have the strength for that. She must have some pretty special emotional reserves to deal with this sort of crap daily.

Omg the fawning "we're all learning, quite rightly so..."

Oh please

WokerThanWoke · 20/03/2019 22:01

Nice to know that human woman is fancy dress.

Voice0fReason · 20/03/2019 22:56

No woman would ever bring this kind of case.
No woman who has ever been mistaken for a man would ever complain she had been deliberately misgendered.

Are we supposed to use pronouns by the stereotypes a person's clothing indicates? Whatever happened to gender non-conforming?

RomanticFatigue · 20/03/2019 23:45

Interesting comment made in the post upthread Guardian article:

"Sometimes I don't know which toilets to go into. I get challenged if I go in the ladies', but if I go in the gents', they stare at my boobs," he says.

Women feel threatened. Men stare at boobs.

InionEile · 21/03/2019 03:45

I was reading that Guardian article thinking how refreshing it was to read a more honest perspective on gender transition and how hard the reality can be. And I was wondering whether the Guardian had a new editor or something to explain their new reality-based approach to trans issues.

Then I saw the date on the article: 2004

Those were the days. Back when acknowledging biological reality wasn’t considered to be a thought crime.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 21/03/2019 07:29

And so the person in question should be challenged.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 21/03/2019 13:59

if I go in the gents', they stare at my boobs," he says.

Then you'd think he'd have some idea why women don't want male bodied people in their toilets? He's felt the discomfort himself. Not to mention, getting your boobs stared at comes with the territory of having boobs.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 21/03/2019 14:01

They're not really breasts; they are implants in a male chest.

SarahPickles · 07/05/2019 18:29

What happened to Katie Yeomans? Did the lovely laydee get her compo?

Orchidoptic · 07/05/2019 23:41

I worry that all this will force people into compliance with gender norms.

When I was younger (many many years ago), a female teenager could shave her head and wear dm’s and still be a girl; a male teenager could grow his hair long and wear make-up and he was still a boy.

Now to do these things would be a declaration of wanting to be the opposite sex and not just a bit of free-willed fun.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 08/05/2019 07:53

I brought dd up without stereotypes as much as I could. She's gay and gender non conforming and is told by her peers she must be a bay really. So far the pressure has been resisted and we talk but it's hard. This movement is stereotypes, and inner feelings based on stereotypes.
