I’ve just read the comments and facebook. If validation is what Katie was after then I’m afraid Katie won’t like what Katie sees.

And correctly identifying someone’s sex does not breach the Equality Act, GRC or not.

My favourite MN-acceptable comment was "It’s Southern Rail. Just be thankful you managed to get on a train AT ALL!!!!"

No comments read. I think they'd have had to go deep mining to find any positive ones.

Of course, the fact that everyone can clearly read 'male' will be presented as evidence that society is transphobic and trans people are terribly oppressed. These things are always spun to advantage.

I don't understand how somebody who had never had any 'gender' problems into middle age and then went to a fancy dress party as a woman and liked it can now expect to be considered as a woman like any other woman.

I am not on Facebook but I can still read the comments. Click on the link on the first page of this thread (4th post, blue link) and then when you get onto the facebook page, click on comments.

This will only peak trans people if they are aware it is part of a wider issue. If anyone is able to do so in the rl name it would be good to post a link to the Fair Play for Women website on this thread on FB (and point out that people have been hauled in by the police for questioning under caution for misgendering).

I do worry that this sort of thing the Facebook reaction of 'that's a man/ shoulda sued the surgeon/ clearly a dude/ Adam's apple is a giveaway' is fuel for the activists calling for earlier medication of children for better aesthetic outcome.

Katie's been pretty clear that she (realised she'd been a woman all along?) in her sixties at a fancy dress party so I'm not sure this case would help their argument much. Bless her for her candour, usually there's much more rewriting of history involved.

They may have been ignorant of it, but FB and twitter comments outside of a TRA bubble have always been overwhelmingly GC.

I don't think the vast population is gender critical - they might not believe you can change sex but my impression is that most people ascribe to gender and the stereotypes associated with it. Just not gender identity, perhaps.

With a GRC you can change your birth certificate to reflect your new, fictional sex. You do not need a GRC to change many other records, including driving license, passport, bank details, etc.

People with a GRC can still be excluded from single sex places if people bother to read and apply the law correctly.

True. But whoever does this runs the risk of trial by Twitter with all that that entails. Not everyone has the stomach for it.
