Are they right about 2010 act?

What did they say about it? I couldn’t put myself through watching This Morning.

RockyFlintstone · 20/03/2019 11:02

Are they right about 2010 act?

They said that misgendering isn't allowed under the Equality Act (and would therefore be illegal) because trans people are protected against discrimination under the EA.

That isn't correct is it?

kenandbarbie · 20/03/2019 11:02

She said that the guard calling her sir was an offense under 2010 equality act

kenandbarbie · 20/03/2019 11:04

I could see they'd have a bit more of a point if it was the same guard, but it was two different guards.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 20/03/2019 11:07

It's all about validation and forcing compliance.

RepealTheGRA · 20/03/2019 11:09

RockyFlintstone

Gender Reassignment is protected under the Equality Act. As is Sex and belief.

It says fuck all about ‘misgendering’.

This is a deliberate misrepresentation of the act.

People are protected from being discriminated against for undergoing gender reassignment ie being refused service, employment, housing etc.

They are misrepresenting the EA2010 once you get into ‘misgendering’ other things come into play like other people’s beliefs and right to free speech etc.

RockyFlintstone · 20/03/2019 11:13

Yes RepealTheGRA that was my understanding too.

princessTiasmum · 20/03/2019 11:13

Sick of hearing about this stuff, she still looks like a man fgs

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 20/03/2019 11:18

Pink as a gender marker. What could go wrong.

Don't tell those who wear "hunting pinks".

Motherofcreek · 20/03/2019 11:21

Finally looks like the public is starting to take notice now.

RepealTheGRA · 20/03/2019 11:29

The public on Facebook had REALLY had enough.

nicenewdusters · 20/03/2019 11:29

Only managed to watch the last few minutes. Schofield desperately signalling his LGBTQ credentials. Holly doing lots of womanly smiling. I'd like to advise Katie that if they want to be accepted as a "real" woman to stop dressing like a man's idea of a woman - ie high red shoes, no tights, very short skirt etc - that's what they had on today.

A man is genetically a man, so will generally have larger hands, an adam's apple, a more masculine shaped face, etc etc. No amount of dressing like Joan Collins disguises that, it actually just accentuates it.

I guess it must be distressing to have to face the reality that, despite how you dress (and maybe surgery, don't know if Katie's had that?) you still look like the sex you were born as. Your brightly coloured scarf can't change the evidence of people's brains and eyes. It might be sad, disappointing, annoying - but not being validated by other people who are only telling the truth is not a criminal offence.

Discrimination would be if Katie hadn't been allowed a train ticket.

Phil said he would read comments later on.

Did anyone keep watching and hear them?

joggerbottom · 20/03/2019 11:46

Interesting how TM used this story to tackle Farrow's story. There is no way that ITV would have been able to interview CF fairly if she was on the sofa.

NoseringGirl · 20/03/2019 11:50

I've had it on in the background and no comments read out yet that I've noticed.
They've got the Mothers who made porn on now.

RockyFlintstone · 20/03/2019 11:53

No comments read out so far.

Onethousandgrannysquares · 20/03/2019 12:05

Name changed for this but am regular. I am becoming sick and tired of this whole pile of nonsense. I’m 6’ 2” tall. I am a woman. I have short hair. I am not slender. I have been called ‘sir’ on numerous occasions throughout my adult life. I laugh it off, generally receive a quick ‘Oh, sorry’ and move on.

I have, until now, always loved being tall. Now I am becoming increasingly aware of getting the side eye from people, quite obviously wondering if I am a trans woman.

I am trying to articulate why this whole thing Is making me so unutterably miserable at the moment - I have never, until the last 12 months or so felt so self conscious of my size. I’m starting to think I need to swap the jeans, rugby shirt and trainers for a pink pinafore and heels.

zanahoria · 20/03/2019 12:06

they have a few to choose from on facebook!

RockyFlintstone · 20/03/2019 12:10

It's so offensive that Katie was incredulous that they would still be called Sir, even though they were wearing pink. And not just any pink. Blush pink.

It really does show what a lot of this is about.

Destinysdaughter · 20/03/2019 12:12

Twitter comments about this are overwhelmingly NOT sympathetic to this issue.

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 20/03/2019 12:23

Onegrannythousandsquares I hadn't thought about the impact of all this side-eyeing on tall women. I wonder if this is something discussed at the Tall Person's Club? Or wherever else the medical and social issues of being tall are discussed.

RockyFlintstone · 20/03/2019 12:26

They didn't read out any comments then?

deydododatdodontdeydo · 20/03/2019 12:28

The men and women in the street have never been on board with this. They may have been ignorant of it, but FB and twitter comments outside of a TRA bubble have always been overwhelmingly GC.
