The argument put forward by McKinnon is totally nonsensical. As far as I can understand her reasoning, because the shortest person in the sample is male, there can be no male advantage. Because the average is irrelevant, the single outlier being the determining factor.

So it's not accurate anyway? Oh dear. And I had such respect for McKinnon's academic credentials as well. Oh well, at least McKinnon hasn't wasted McKinnon's time.

It's not about the height of the curve (which reflects numbers) but the relative location of the curve. They may overlap at the edge, but they centre differently. Its all about trends and 'normal', not outliers.
