Reading the BBC news online this morning and there is not one, but two stories about transgender people. One promoting the transition of a small child, and the other promoting sport for transgender athletes. The latter in particular looks like a direct attempt to counter the news discussion over the last few days in sport.

This isn’t news, it’s wartime propaganda.

They're having to step up the positive articles as people are slowly waking up to it. I don't think it's surprising that this comes after the Government says it's reviewing transgender policies in health and justice.

madeindevon2 · 05/03/2019 11:10

what I don't understand about all this
is the fact the child who identifies with being female is always caked in makeup!? 9 year old caked in loads of makeup ? as if that's what defines you being female!?
(from a non makeup wearing woman.....well last time I put any makeup on was nearly 3 months ago!)

GrouchyKiwi · 05/03/2019 11:12

Re towels: I use two one day and one the next so I guess that makes me genderfluid?

JaneJeffer · 05/03/2019 11:13

teachers have tackled the issue "head on".
"They will say things like, 'Do you remember Anthony? Do you remember how upset he could get, and how angry he could be? Don't you think Autumn is happier?', and explaining Autumn is who she wants to be,"

I found this bit very creepy Confused

Popchyk · 05/03/2019 11:24

I also found it creepy.

You don't want to make Anthony angry, do you children?

It is like teachers are placing the responsibility for Anthony's behaviour on the other children.

It is also practically telling other children that if they are upset or angry (which is perfectly normal sometimes for children), then there is a solution. You just have to decide to change your sex and you'll be much happier.

FFS why are these young trans girls wearing ridiculously heavy makeup, I wouldn’t let my 9yo actual daughter do it 🙄 experimenting sure, but that? Plus duck face pouting? No

In the case of this article, as in the Butterflies drama, to make sure the boy concerned can be told apart from other boys. Without it Autumn would be indistinguishable from Autumn's brothers. Grin A bit of me is also wondering whether Autumn's mother was disappointed to have three sons and would have wanted to have a daughter... Hmm

welshgendercrit · 05/03/2019 11:53

On the subject of complaints to the BBC, it's always worth making one. I was one of many who complained that they were planning to have Dr Helen Webberley on BBC 5Live last Monday and said it was totally inappropriate to have a guest who had been convicted of malpractice in this very area of concern. I had a reply this morning to confirm that she didn't appear.

"Thank you for contacting us. We did not broadcast an interview with Helen Webberley on the 25th February. Any interviews or features we are planning will follow the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines. We appreciate your views on this and thank you again for getting in touch with us."

I remember a thread from a long time ago when a mum had boys and then had another.

The underlying tone was that she was disappointed in this but, luckily for her, this last child felt as if he should be a girl at a very young age-3 or 4- and she now referred to him as her daughter.

I thought at the time this was a type of child abuse and that thought is never far from my mind when I read about mums who have a shed load of boys and one of them becomes a very girly girl. More to do with mum's disappointment I think.

BettyDuMonde · 05/03/2019 12:06

I believe there is some data to suggest that trans identifying children often have multiple siblings of the same birth sex. There is some peculiar stuff about incidence in twins too, both fraternal and identical.

Of course, an actual, relevant research project into this stuff couldn’t take place in the current political climate. Which is utterly shit for the kids affected.

PerfumeandOranges · 05/03/2019 12:09

That's very interesting @BettyDuMonde

ChattyLion · 05/03/2019 12:19

Also the social expectations will be on the girls within such a narrative to accept MtF classmates as part of validating their new female identity. It’s never ‘I like makeup and i’m going to carry on playing football with boys and girls while I am decked out in my glittery outfit’. It’s always ‘I like makeup and so I am going to play with just girls, because all girls like make up.’

(See that appallingly sex stereotyped I am Jazz picture book for children for details.)

So that whereas a fellow pupil maybe used to be an angry boy (and so the girls may or may not have played with him) now he is ‘living as a girl’ the kids have to accept that he is somehow a different person, (how?) that he is a girl.

So girls in the class should all want to play with this new girl in their class- but not the normal girl stuff ie whatever they would normally play.. but stereotyped girl stuff like make up and dresses.

It’s requiring the girls to perform femininity because a male child wants them to do so- ie giving the girls sex stereotypes to enact as an identity prop for a boy. it is so wrong, gaslighting and boundary erasing girls in primary.

It’s also shit for the boy whose parents are trying to trans them. Because the girls in their class will grow out of spending much time on make up and dresses and will do other things with their friends, and will also want to share female experiences with each other- especially as puberty approaches. The girls will want to hang out with other girls, girls who get it.

theOtherPamAyres · 05/03/2019 12:24

I suspect that the documentary on the transitioning child will raise a lot of questions about the parents who seek out Mermaids.

MrsSnippyPants · 05/03/2019 12:31

The mother of Autumn has just called in to Radio 5 Live, was around 12.15 onwards.

Popchyk · 05/03/2019 12:40

Not Autumn's dad who phoned in?

Colour me surprised.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 05/03/2019 12:40

I am also appalled by that article on Autumn. I saw it on the bbc news front page (alongside the sports one) and my first reaction was 'They are really trying to push this'.

And as I only use one towel, and as a 9-year old I wasn't interested in make-up, had no desire to be a mother and had no aspiration to get married then I am definitely a man. Except I'm not.

WeRiseUp · 05/03/2019 12:43

Check out Christine Burns' DARVO!

BettyDuMonde · 05/03/2019 12:46

That’s just a clear admittance that Press for Change & Trans Media Watch have been grooming with protrans puff pieces for decades, isn’t it?

OldCrone · 05/03/2019 12:46

And is anyone getting frustrated that the parents featured are always the mothers? The fathers are either absent or silent. We very rarely hear from the father of a child who identifies as transgender.

This programme was broadcast on BBC Wales in 2017. It struck me how enthusiastic the mother was about their child's transition, and how uncomfortable the father looked every time he was shown.

For Huw, a traditional cattle farmer, I could see it was a baptism of fire. The word ‘transgender’ was alien to him. He was struggling to come to terms with the thought of his son becoming his daughter...

BettyDuMonde · 05/03/2019 12:47

Only one towel used here too, btw.

Although I did once use about 50 scratchy paper towels when I forgot to take a proper one to the local baths.

Popchyk · 05/03/2019 12:51

Re: the Christine Burns thing.

Every accusation is an admission with them. Same with Edward Lord accusing Andrew Gilligan, Times journalist, of having a fetish for transgender people.

They are the ones doing the grooming. Or trying to. They have lost control of the narrative so this is them trying to get it back.

They must think we are all thick.

Mind you, it has worked with government departments, the police and the CPS. So they're bound to try the same tactics again.

OldCrone · 05/03/2019 12:52

I don’t think it’s ethical for broadcasters to refer to ‘trans children’ at all. They wouldn’t refer to ‘Labour children’ or ‘Conservative children’ or ‘communist children’ or ‘fascist children’ would they?

They never talk about 'gay children' either, do they? If it's OK to talk about trans children, why not gay children?

Himshethey · 05/03/2019 13:03

We were supposed to be reassured by the fact that Autumn had not been given any drugs at all and that it was all going very slowly. This was used to directly contradict the claims by the ex-Tavistock Chair that drugs had been administered after 2 or 3 sessions. BUT AUTUMN IS STILL ONLY NINE!!! Of course she’s not getting any drugs yet because she’s still a child and isn’t starting puberty yet. Do they think we’re thick or something?! It must be all very Jolly being told you can become a woman but not have to go through all the nasties of periods - you just get to grow lovely breasts and curves and can wear loads of make-up and gorgeous dresses and heels - being a woman is great isnt it?! (Let’s not talk about the vaginoplasty just yet eh?)

Popchyk · 05/03/2019 13:10

And look at those pictures.

Big close-up of the child caked in make-up, looking wistfully up at the heavens.

And all the pics have FRAN NORRIS (name of the mother) imprinted on them. Presumably the mother has thought ahead to ensure that a fee is due whenever someone uses the pics.

WeRiseUp · 05/03/2019 13:11

Every accusation is an admission with them

Yes.

It's always worth checking our Christine Burns and Transport Media Watch to see which turn its going to take and which spin is going to be put on. It's deliberate manipulation by highly manipulative people, not just harmless middle aged ladies in floral dresses wanting to peacefully get on with their lives. It's utterly brazen.

WeRiseUp · 05/03/2019 13:12

Excuse the auto correct of trans
