Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Bloody hell BBC

Reading the BBC news online this morning and there is not one, but two stories about transgender people. One promoting the transition of a small child, and the other promoting sport for transgender athletes. The latter in particular looks like a direct attempt to counter the news discussion over the last few days in sport.

This isn’t news, it’s wartime propaganda.

Links?

Thought exactly the same. BBC ramping up the trans agenda massively.

I found the pictures of the child with the drag queen makeup slightly disturbing.

littlbrowndog · 05/03/2019 07:12

Was on bbc Scotland last night. We had the sad story of a person who had to play footie with a women’s team
There was the walking on the beach sad face
Then video of the person very tall playing withe women team then plea for inclusive sport
Why was the men’s team not being asked to be inclusive
There was a bit from Sharron Davies but nothing like the emotional stuff from the sad person wandering on the beach

“My transgender child”:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-shropshire-47360102

Every stereotype ticked, ffs.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/03/2019 07:15

Transgender debate:

I couldn’t even face reading that one over my breakfast.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/03/2019 07:16

I found the pictures of the child with the drag queen makeup slightly disturbing.

Me too.

Thought on the plus side, i now relieved to know I am an actual woman because I use two towels after the shower - one for my body and one for my hair “like a woman”.

GerryblewuptheER · 05/03/2019 07:20

I wish they would elaborate when they say " school has been amazingly supportive"

Perhaps of people saw that they were letting them use toilets and changing rooms or having assemblies telling Kids that stereotypes were what made you a boy or a girl people might stop and think a bit more...

Saltovinegar · 05/03/2019 07:20

The towel thing was a bit odd. My son uses about 4 towels when he goes in the shower so he must be very womanly 🙄

LumpySpacedPrincess · 05/03/2019 07:22

Like many little girls, nine-year-old Autumn Norris loves dressing up and experimenting with make-up.

No BBC, that isn't what 9 year olds do, that is a sexist stereotype. Boys can like make up and it doesn't make them girls. This is dangerous and very frightening.

GerryblewuptheER · 05/03/2019 07:24

Parents are berated for letting girls wear make up and do their hair in fancy dos at 9.

Its brave and stunning making a boy look like a drag queen though

HungryHippoMummy · 05/03/2019 07:24

Oh no! I only use one towel! I've just realised I must actually be a man. How do I break the news to DH?

crosspelican · 05/03/2019 07:25

The last section of the sport one does state unequivocally that men are bigger and stronger than women and that hormone therapy cannot change that. Which should be self evident from the women's team photo with the giant man in the back row!

TimeLady · 05/03/2019 07:26

There seems to be a higher than average % of trans employees at the BBC, according to figures. I'd be interested to know how many of them have selfID'd, how many are AGP types, and what positions of influence they hold.

The Today programme has Paula Radcliffe talking about transgender sport on this morning, I think before 8am, will be interesting to see if it's just her talking. It's Nick Robinson today and he has shown signs of being GC in the past.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 05/03/2019 07:29

Each individual complaint I make to the BBC just gets fobbed off every time. But today’s news selection is such clear evidence that they are pursuing an agenda to counter other news stories and completely disregarding the genuine questioning there has been...time for another complaint I think.

I do feel there is a terribly sad side effect of all this which is that trust in our institutions is being destroyed and half of me wonders if that is the intention.

I'm judging the fuck out of Autumn's mother. Sounds a hell of a lot more like a bunch of stiff going on in her head, and not just Autumn's. Who on earth plasters a child in a full face of makeup?

spreadingchestnuttree · 05/03/2019 07:32

I thought both of the articles are actually not too bad in terms of the "science bits" - more balance than I've seen in a lot of trans articles.

Saltovinegar · 05/03/2019 07:33

crosspelican totally agree.

My first thought was Munchausens by proxy.

RockyFlintstone · 05/03/2019 07:39

From the article about the child:

She adds: "At this moment in time, Autumn is very settled into living as a female and, when she talks about the future and her dreams, it's about being a mother and getting married to the man of her dreams.

Ah yes, well that proves it then doesn't it? Nothing sums up 'female' better than the desire to get married to the man of your dreams. Autumn is definitely a girl.

Honestly, what is this horseshit?

Lemoncakestrudel · 05/03/2019 07:42

Derailing slightly, but the eyeshadow on babies on nappy packaging is added afterwards. Because, you know, babies aren’t pretty enough by themselves.

SileneOliveira · 05/03/2019 07:43

I'm in Scotland and saw the piece about Blair Hamilton on the news last night.

A quick summary - Blair was a decent male footballer, played for the Uni men's team. Blair then decided to transition into a woman. Blair now plays for the women's team. Blair is bigger and heftier than the rest of the team. Blair was interviews stating that there is no physical advantage as Blair is taking hormones.

As a mum, I wouldn't want my daughter to be slide tackled by Blair.

The piece was not about increasing trans people's participation in sport. It was about women moving over to make room for them.

HexagonalBattenburg · 05/03/2019 07:45

I only use one towel in the shower but my husband uses every bloody towel in the house given half the chance. We must be doing this gender thing totally wrong.

sleepyhead · 05/03/2019 07:53

Fuck sake! Children love dressing up and experimenting with makeup. Children love glitter and rainbow colours and shiny things.

When's it going to to sink in that narrowing the definition of "real boy" and "real girl" to the crudest stereotypes is harmful to mental (and now potentially physical) health?

WeRiseUp · 05/03/2019 07:57

There seems to be a higher than average % of trans employees at the BBC, according to figures.

And lower than average % of lesbians.

Seems like the pattern of entryism and hounding out/ejection of lesbians on spurious grounds probably was similar to the BBC and other orgs.

This has been one wide scale takeover of democracy which has been going on for fucking years. Right under our noses. Anyone who joins the dots or objects is immediately branded a bigot/transphobe/t*rf and ousted.
