Miranda in court

I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

Debbie Hayton
@DebbieHayton
At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

Re weird goings on - Paris Lees was also begging for "you're just so lovely" tweets this week. Cos someone said they were horrible.

Oddly, no one mentioned Paris' conviction for a violent assault. which usually would indicate an element of horrible-ness. Cos, beautiful and stunning, innit?

FemalePersonator · 02/03/2019 13:44

If anything is going on, I hope KiwiFarms gets wind of it.

They delight me in so many ways: their file on BalldeMort, the mocking of TRAs, calling us Granny Terves (seriously, that made me laugh!) and a comment that the Granny Lesbian Terf Brigade are ready to make borscht for Null (again, a comment I found genuinely funny).

happydappy2 · 02/03/2019 13:44

I’m concerned that if SG steps down, who will fill her shoes? There is a push from TRA’s to have mermaids run by transwomen.....adult males....if as an organisation they have already got their tentacles into schools & children services, this would be a huge worry from a safeguarding point of view.

LangCleg · 02/03/2019 13:47

The only way all of this will be stopped is if Brexit ends cleanly, rather than in General Election.

Couldn't agree more.

Needmoresleep · 02/03/2019 14:30

I picked up something a few months by chance by looking at someones twitter and seeing mimmymum and the good doctor, and some sort of "well Susie is Susie" comment which suggested all is not peace and love within Mermaids. When I looked again, the comment had gone. So I was suprised at somments that Helen was distancing themselves from Mermaids.

I think there is a lot of 'watch this space' with Mermaids. It will be interesting as, controversit aside, it always a small charity that has spread its reach far beyond what you would expect.

hellandhairnets · 02/03/2019 14:32

There is some rather strange behaviour going on at the moment, somethings not right

Always worrying. There's always a matching or 3x backlash whenever GC side score victories. There'll be some high-level intimidation & tactic-change plotting going on I reckon. The worst thing - or best, depending on how you look at it - is, it becomes so obvious it's being organised.

What will make the wheels finally come off this? Sunlight and questioning is always the best, of course, and the Martina and high-profile sportswomen comments are helpful, but the anti-Glinner donkey kong tactic seemed to work rather too well in terms of widespread propaganda. I think there'll be more of that - big scale stuff.

I remember at that September We're Still Here meeting someone transcribed here for us, as well as talking about influencing friends in high places including legally, they were looking for "good legal test-cases" to hammer the tra view home.

Backfired a bit in this case, though. Heh.

'There is a push from TRA’s to have mermaids run by transwomen.....adult males....if as an organisation they have already got their tentacles into schools & children services, this would be a huge worry from a safeguarding point of view.'

That would be a massive own goal if they did.
Far easier for a middle aged mum to appear unthreatening to the mostly female staff of primary schools.

youllhavehadyourtea · 02/03/2019 14:37

At some point Helen and Susie will be seen as liabilities and ditched.

Needmoresleep · 02/03/2019 14:46

In any long running campaign its always two steps forward one step back. The trick is to look over your should abd consider how far we have come over the past six months.

And if the other side smell a hint of failure they will get nastier.

WeRiseUp · 02/03/2019 14:52

At some point Helen and Susie will be seen as liabilities and ditched.

They'll need to be replaced with women. It is never a good look to have men pushing this kind of agenda.

Bluestitch · 02/03/2019 14:53

Not sure if this has been shared already, Miranda is doing a Q&A tonight all about it.

It's all gained far far more public attention than it was ever supposed to.
It was supposed to go under the radar, laws were supposed to be changed and the few people who caught on to what was happening would be shouted down as bigots, the wider public would never have to know, to keep things quiet the nodebate thing was thought up....

It's all gone wrong, the public do know, this wasn't supposed to happen.
We are part of the reason the public have woken up.
Whatever happens from here, won't take away from what has been achieved, the public see it, people are talking.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/03/2019 15:13

@WeRiseUp women like.....? All sorts of folks call themselves women these days.

I worry for the daft kids who go through a bit of a crazy phase (like we all did - but at least when you declared yourself a punk and shaved all your hair off it wasn’t permanent) and are pushed and encouraged by parents, friends and doctors - told how wonderful you are etc - what happens if the next week you decide you want to go all Disney Princess or Cheerleader style? Could you feel pressured to keep up the ‘new’ persona? Especially if those around you are basking in your specialness.

What about the ‘thingy’ (for they prefer to be caller thing or it) who was born female, decided they were male and now insists that they are a sexless alien. Oddly enough the family who supported their f2m change have said the equivalent ‘of for fucks sake’ and left them to it.

Or the 14 year old female in Canada who has just had a court ruling that they can have make hormones from NOW without parental consent and if the family refer to them as ‘she/her’ or refer to their female name it is an actual criminal offence (family violence or something like that).

Batshittery at its worst. I’ve got to step away from twitter.

Sorry if this is already made clear in the video but can't watch it at the moment - can anyone please tell me what time is Miranda doing the Q&A tonight?

hackmum · 02/03/2019 15:52

Trying to think about why all the TRAs have gone quiet. Two possible explanations: someone is about to whistleblow on what’s happening in Mermaids, Stonewall or similar; or a high profile TRA is about to be charged with sexual offences. These are just guesses, I hasten to add; any other suggestions?

Bluestitch · 02/03/2019 15:59

I think the vibe is a bit different anyway without Harrop, he's usually the one co-ordinating and stirring the pot. Maybe they are missing a leader at the moment!

I reckon a few of them are going to be taking jobs up in the 'establishment' so are cleaning up their act first.

BBC Diversity Manager - Shon Faye

Stonewall CEO - Munroe Bergdorf

Women's Aid - Aimee Challenor

lottiebel123 · 02/03/2019 16:13

yeah, where has the doctor gone? I get that people might want a social media break, but he's been sending holiday snaps to other TRA to upload to their Twitter, which is odd.

buzzbobbly · 02/03/2019 16:15

Do these fools not know of the concept of "screenshots"?
(or in internet parlance, "we've got the receipts")

Bless their stupid little heads.

MhairiV · 02/03/2019 16:19

Thank you @Ewe

OlennasWimple · 02/03/2019 16:22

Is Haddock still on his hols in NZ?

EweSurname · 02/03/2019 16:24

Did Harrop really have that much influence? From what I remember, there wasn’t as much engagement with his tweets from others as I’d have expected.

I think that the TRAs are quiet because this defeat comes on top of progress in raising public awareness of the dangers and risks to womens' sport.

Uninvolved apathetic people, who haven't given a monkey's about prisons, services and single-sex spaces, can see the problem with 'gender identity' in sport immediately and vividly.

It's been a bad, bad week for the people who defend the position that transwomen are women, or that a t-shirt bearing the legend 'adult human female' is transphobic. Instead, they are being reminded over and over again that transwomen are men - and the awareness has only just started. It may spread globally, in the run-up to the Olympics.

No wonder that they are quiet. Miranda's victory is just another body blow.
