I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

Debbie Hayton
@DebbieHayton
At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

Miranda has been awarded costs

good

does that come from public money or from Islan?

WeRiseUp · 01/03/2019 16:13

Wine Miranda and supporters!

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 16:13

"Who pays the costs? CPS or Islan?"

CPS/aka you and me. Islan isn't out for shit. She won't even mention it on her Twitter and will pretend she's still 'anonymous'.

Good luck to her when it's in all the papers tomorrow though.

BettyDuMonde · 01/03/2019 16:13

Hope the bar tab can be added to the costs!

SingeBuggerCack · 01/03/2019 16:13

Miranda has been awarded costs

Fist-pump.

HouseOfMouse · 01/03/2019 16:13

Brilliant! BUT how did it ever get to court? What a waste of public resources. And how embarrassing for the CPS and Mermaids.

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 16:14

It was only from following Debbie on Twitter that I heard about this.

SingeBuggerCack · 01/03/2019 16:15

Ah, not so much of a fist-pump then, but at least Miranda won’t be left out of pocket.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 01/03/2019 16:15

What were the cps thinking

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 16:17

Yay Miranda.

Anyone else furious that the CPS won't even proceed with a large majority of rape cases?

And yet they take on cases like this?

OvaHere · 01/03/2019 16:17

I've not seen much on Twitter about this. It would seem that Helen isn't all that lauded even by her own side. Then again she is only a c*s woman compared to someone like the brave Tara Wolf.

Helen might want to consider the lack of support from the people she champions so hard.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 16:17

This^ Surely at some point the courts are going to get pissed off.

MhairiV · 01/03/2019 16:17

What a completely appalling waste of public money and despite there being zero evidence of any wrongdoing, it must've been a horrible and stressful experience for Miranda. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out in public.

I've no doubt Islan's cabal was hoping for a vague "Miranda was done for harassment" line without having to specify any details because conveniently they weren't allowed due to magistrate agreeing there was a likelihood of nasty TERF backlash. Shame how that didn't work out. Goons.

Datun · 01/03/2019 16:18

Trousering

It's all a bit nuts isn't it? Islan has a trans child and works in the promotion of trans children in an organisation that is only about trans children with a CEO who has willing goes on record about every minute (!) detail and yet when someone tweets the information Islan has made publically available about her own child this is a crime.

They need to stop this horse shit. Zero credibility.

Well quite, and the person challenging this was an actual transwoman.

Mermaids, Green and Islan look like mad crusaders for their own personal reasons.

OlennasWimple · 01/03/2019 16:18

Well, that's four hours of court time (and expense) that no-one will ever get back

Congratulations Miranda!

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 16:18

It'll be a useful information point though - people won't like the fact that tax payers money is being wasted by bringing such evidence-free cases to court, and will hopefully ask why all things trans seem to warrant a bottomless purse approach

I bloody love Miranda

One of the positives of this whole horrible rabbit hole is discovering Miranda

Glad all is ok now (what an ordeal though) and hope there's some good media coverage

SingeBuggerCack · 01/03/2019 16:18

I’m curious — does this case set any kind of legal precedent?

MorskieOko · 01/03/2019 16:20

Are we sure this was tried by the CPS? It sounds like a civil case to me. People found not guilty don't get their costs paid.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 01/03/2019 16:20

Btw by horrid rabbit hole I mean this whole 'upside down' world .. not MN (in case that wasn't clear) Wink

SophoclesTheFox · 01/03/2019 16:21

Great news for Miranda! What a relief.

Helen, this is how the real world sees the issue. I know it must be painful, but honest to god, give your head a wobble. You can’t force people to believe what you believe. Other people have the right to see the world differently than you do. You are damaging your own cause because you don’t seem to understand that accusing a trans person of being transphobic only makes you look unhinged.

Hope Miranda and allies have a most excellent pub to retreat to - if I knew where it was, the beer would be on me 🍻

bluescreen · 01/03/2019 16:21

Singe

AFAIR magistrates' decisions can't set a legal precedent. They can provide a useful non-binding signpost, though.

IM0GEN · 01/03/2019 16:21

Good result for Miranda. And for freedom of speech and belief.

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 01/03/2019 16:21

well done Miranda

(can anyone link to the case header as am very confused - I guess if there was no case to answer it won't be reported either?)
