I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

Debbie Hayton
@DebbieHayton
At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

I hope there will be consequences, and forces such as West Yorkshire Police will be told to grow up!!

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 16:09

"But was that what got him banned from Twitter?"

I don't think Twitter really deals in such terms. They wouldn't say 'you doxed Helen Islan's child, you're banned', they go on reports and then if you get reported and temp-banned enough times you get blocked.

I imagine Miranda got blocked for various mis-pronounings and/or telling people to fuck off. Miranda is quite forthright. I don't think there is any direct link between Helen's child and Miranda, save that Helen's minions would be involved in the mass-reportings etc.

Judge has awarded costs. The case should never have come to the court.

I still don't know what Islan was accusing Miranda of exactly??

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 01/03/2019 16:10

Hope Miranda, Debbie, Joani and assembled friends have a pleasant Friday afternoon in the nearest pub

yes, I've got a feeling that the publicans of Basildon may need to be put on high alert

AngelaHodgeson · 01/03/2019 16:10

Poor judge. Decades of studying law and had to spend an afternoon dealing with the kind of wittering the average lunchtime supervisor in a primary school playground sorts out on daily basis.

Tbh, I bet the average lunchtime supervisor in a primary school playground would be annoyed at the ridiculousness of this particular case.

Floisme · 01/03/2019 16:10

Joani Walsh just tweeted:
The case against Miranda Yardley is over. The judge said there was no evidence.

IDoN0tCare · 01/03/2019 16:10

Whoop whoop 🙌 Let the light shine on this. Congratulations Miranda.

theOtherPamAyres · 01/03/2019 16:10

Judge says: No evidence. No case to answer. Case dismissed.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 01/03/2019 16:10

what about Miranda's costs??

McTufty · 01/03/2019 16:10

Do we know what the alleged harassment was?

madvixen · 01/03/2019 16:10

Miranda has been awarded costs

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/03/2019 16:10

I can actually hear the wails of despair coming from twitter.

It’s a pity that lawyers who take on ridiculous cases like this don’t get wrapped on the knuckles. Why a waste of time and money. And they should be made to apologise in public.

Upthepong · 01/03/2019 16:11

Fucking marvellous result, 'no case to answer'

MrsBertBibby · 01/03/2019 16:11

Ooh, thrown out at half time! Nice!

If Miranda has had to contribute to her costs there could be an application.

Bluestitch · 01/03/2019 16:11

Islan’s evidence tearful. Talks of extreme distress. Felt sick, ill.

Not surprised she's crying. Must be shocking to have to leave her echo chamber and make a case in the real world where words actually mean something and evidence matters more than statements of belief. Shocking that this was taken to court in the first place. I hope MY is okay.

EeebyMum · 01/03/2019 16:11

What a bloody horror show. Miranda should sue Helen Islan.

Floisme · 01/03/2019 16:11

Dammit I thought I'd got there first Grin

Delighted for Miranda and many thanks Joaniwalsh for the tweets.

Sarahconnor1 · 01/03/2019 16:12

Great news.

But yes, why did both the police (I'm presuming west yorks) and the CPS run with this.

There has to be some accountability because at the moment they just look like TRAs personal goon squad.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/03/2019 16:12

Judge has awarded costs

Who pays the costs? CPS or Islan?

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 16:12

Is it normal to award costs? It sounds a bit damning on the CPS to have costs awarded against them, not even a 'not guilty', but 'not even a case, fuck off'.

OvaHere · 01/03/2019 16:12

Congrats Miranda. Go have a big Gin.

Trousering · 01/03/2019 16:12

It's all a bit nuts isn't it? Islan has a trans child and works in the promotion of trans children in an organisation that is only about trans children with a CEO who has willing goes on record about every minute (!) detail and yet when someone tweets the information Islan has made publically available about her own child this is a crime.

They need to stop this horse shit. Zero credibility.

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 16:12

I can actually hear the wails of despair coming from twitter.

I've not seen very much for the duration of the case but I'm sure it's all to come!
