"More young people than ever are exploring their gender identity. Last year, two and a half thousand under-eighteens were referred to NHS England's gender identity clinics for support. Some are hoping to get access to potentially irreversible treatments as soon as they can. Doctors are divided about the best way to help."

"Dr Faye Kirkland investigates how much we understand about the care being offered to transgender children."

Or if at school they pointed out the angel Gabriel was a boy.

nettie434 · 25/02/2019 21:33

Yes, absolutely you be an angel.
100% yes knicknackpaddyflack. The school person clearly hadn't read the bible - Michael, Raphael, Gabriel and so on. Angels are always men in Judeo-Christian theology!

HumberElla · 25/02/2019 21:33

Really? No trans kids voices heard? Clearly not trans enough for Helen, or not the right sort of trans maybe?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/02/2019 21:34

It'sgoing to be a good introduction to slot of people who have blindly been ignoring what happening.

Sorry, HW's twitter account is coming up as blocked in the above link Shock but it is worth looking at. We are not happy.

KOBr · 25/02/2019 21:41

She's still going on.

Helen webberley’s position vis a vis the law would appear to be, how do I put this diplomatically, rather ambiguous at present.
These people never seem to know when to keep their heads down, do they? Arrogance I suppose.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/02/2019 21:42

How many I's?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/02/2019 21:44

I think she's just realised a massive percentage of people don't agree with what she is doing...

Cwenthryth · 25/02/2019 21:45

‘But they will interview a sheep farmer!’ (HW on Twitter)

Actual lol - you mean the scientist that has done the most comprehensive research to date on the effect of puberty blockers on brain development in mammals. And concluded that what HW does is live experimentation on human children. Bit more than a ‘sheep farmer’, love Hmm

Some interesting anecdotes on this thread:
mobile.twitter.com/DadTrans/status/1099445140819726336
Aside from the tragedy of suicide, which of course is mentioned at the end, it seems that many "clinicians" at the Tavistock are less acquiescent than I thought. Also interested to know it isn't automatically a doctor who sees the patient first. And confirmation that the supposedly extensive therapy is in fact just six hours.
Six hours!

Helen W is upset by the program? Good. Helen was prosecuted for running an illegal clinic. She prescribed puberty blockers to 12yr olds.

FlyingOink · 25/02/2019 21:56

In fact I think the issue with waiting lists is that the child gets indoctrinated via Mermaids and YouTube for a couple of years before anyone remotely gender critical ever talks to them!
At what point does anyone say to a child "this might not solve all your problems. You will have physical discomfort. You may not be able to find a partner easily. You won't be able to have children. You might never pass. Do you want to talk about your other problems first?"
Does that even happen at any point?

DonaldTwain · 25/02/2019 21:56

Looking at that thread, flyingoink, I had to give a bitter laugh. “In no other area is the 18 week waiting period so disregarded”. Clearly, he’s never talked to a parent of a child with asd.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/02/2019 21:57

Who would have though experimenting on children would make people hate you?

newtlover · 25/02/2019 21:59

she really, really doesn't know when to shut up does she
again to Jade-
your teacher was ignorant, you should have been an angel and I bet you'd have been a fantastic one! please keep talking and please don't damage the lovely body you have.

SoloClarinet · 25/02/2019 21:59

ToetoToe - HW prescribed testosterone to a 12 year old, not puberty blockers, She is a reckless evangelist not a doctor.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 25/02/2019 22:02

I’ve just got in and the programme isn’t on iplayer (yet?) sounds like it was a few small steps in the right direction.

Quite.

My own experience with DS, 10 years to get on the waiting list, almost 3 years on the waiting list then 5 months of assessment to get an ASD diagnosis.

Tomorrow is my first ever appointment with an autism support worker, a full year after his diagnosis. My son is almost 15 years old and has only been to school part time for the last 4 years due to lack of appropriate placements for kids like him.

ToeToToe · 25/02/2019 22:05

And yeah, "sheep farmer" - Professor Neil Evans studied sheep to assess the effect of puberty blockers on the brains of adolescents. He's not a bloody sheep farmer Grin

FlyingOink · 25/02/2019 22:08

Ali1cedowntherabbithole
It was showing as unavailable on the daily schedule link, but was viewable through a different link.
I think that, the listings mixup and the different broadcast time in Scotland may all be deliberate.

DonaldTwain · 25/02/2019 22:09

I’m so sorry, Ova. I hope your son gets the support he needs.

ToeToToe · 25/02/2019 22:09

Solo - god, yes, that's even bloody worse.

Well, you know it's bad when she's been prosecuted. (It's poignant to note here, that I seriously thought about pronouns when I wrote 'she' - that's how the guidelines here begin to affect you.)

BettyDuMonde · 25/02/2019 22:10

My ASD son waited 3 years to see an occupational therapist.

It’s complete myth that no one has to wait for specialists except trans people.
