"More young people than ever are exploring their gender identity. Last year, two and a half thousand under-eighteens were referred to NHS England's gender identity clinics for support. Some are hoping to get access to potentially irreversible treatments as soon as they can. Doctors are divided about the best way to help."

"Dr Faye Kirkland investigates how much we understand about the care being offered to transgender children."

Unfortunately some members of the trans lobby appear incapable of believing that anyone else’s problems might be as severe as their own.
Suicide rates, incidentally, are higher in people with asd. Yet parents of kids with asd strangely seemed to have resisted the urge to weaponise this fact. Perhaps the trans lobby should learn from our example?

ToeToToe · 25/02/2019 22:15

The waiting list for asd assessment is 2 years+ in my area.

nauticant · 25/02/2019 22:23

The discussion about Panorama on twitter has trans allies criticising the programme. There's also Tommy Robinson supporters who are also furious with Panorama. Which means the trans allies are allying themselves with Tommy Robinson supporters.

You couldn't make it up!

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 25/02/2019 22:25

I love that Doctor Testosterone couldn't tell the difference between a sheep farmer and a professor. Aww.

Just about sums her up. She can't tell the difference between girls or boys either.

Ha ha! Someone needs to Venn diagram the shit out of this, I don’t think standard two dimensions will be adequate.

R0wantrees · 25/02/2019 22:36

Some interesting anecdote on this thread*

FlyingOink there are some Mermaids parents who have been extremely critical of GIDS for a long time and are also active twitter TRAs.

newtlover · 25/02/2019 22:36

eh what? Tommy Robinson supporters are cross with this programme???

OvaHere · 25/02/2019 22:38

What's the Tommy Robinson Panorama connection?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/02/2019 22:39

What was it that goady yesterday said?
10 people eat together, one is a racist then so are the others by association?

Hopefully it is dawning on them now why this is flawed.

ToeToToe · 25/02/2019 22:39

Tommy Robinson is cross for a previous Panorama programme I think. Not quite sure of the details.

Panorama is shining a light on the horrors of Tommy Robinson and gender ideology. I think I quite like Panorama.

^That won't be screenshotted on twitter will it Grin

Melroses · 25/02/2019 22:49

Sheep farmers aren't daft.

ToeToToe · 25/02/2019 22:50

This is a really important quote from former Tavistock insiders:

"Counter to child development theory and knowledge, this service changes children's bodies with the aim of improving their mental health. Which mostly does not seem to work."

Which is what gender critical feminists et al have been saying all along.

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/02/2019 22:53

Missed it, will have to wait for iplayer. But did they anywhere mention the little matter of Helen Webberley's conviction? It seems an extraordinarily omission.
Twitter is fun just now though.

ToeToToe · 25/02/2019 22:58

Yes, they did mention it optimist - but they weren't exactly condemning her iyswim.

They still featured her, and interviewed her. Really, she should be as discredited as Andrew Wakeley now.

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/02/2019 23:03

Don't think she'll find a supermodel to date though. Wink

ToeToToe · 25/02/2019 23:20

Oh god I said Wakeley. I meant Wakefield of course - of struck-off-living-in-Texas-amongst-hero-worshippers fame.

Him & Webberley have a lot in common. (Not the supermodel spouse though Grin )

EweSurname · 25/02/2019 23:25

Helen Belcher upset at the bbc. I wonder what the agreement they had was:

I've never particularly liked panorama. Too sensationalist and tabloidly as a rule.

However, its got to be said on this particular subject, thats possibly what is needed to blow the lid off it all once and for all.

Interesting that the doctor said basically no doctors want to work with transgender people now because they just get criticised when they're trying to provide care. Trans charities (pressure groups) should hang their heads in shame, they have failed the people they were meant to support in the worst possible way.

This is the scandal.

The ideology is so fucked up, and the community so aggressive and demanding that no one wants to anymore. This isn't normal. And its not bigotry driving it. Its born of self preservation.

Just imagine being married to someone like this, or part of the same family. Its abusive behaviour.

WowWowWomen · 25/02/2019 23:30

Speaking of which...

eu.usatoday.com/story/life/allthemoms/2019/02/22/pediatric-office-staff-wears-vaccines-cause-adults-shirts-after-measles-outbreaks/2949867002/

I just caught the second bit after the news, did Webberley buy her certificate from the same place G McKeith did? She seems a bit dim and anti facts/research for a medical professional. I heard only UK private Dr but not "COURT CASE".

Glad some research is happening, sorry sheeps.

Who is funding the oh so exciting mahoosive tavistock grant?

I am assuming this is the inquiry ordered by Penny Mordaunt, WowWowWoman. Announced last year to look at rise in referrals of girls but can’t find any more details of size of grant or what they are going to do.

WowWowWomen · 25/02/2019 23:52

It would be nice to see specific research goal etc wouldn't it? I want good news but the sceptic in me worries this is a TRA funded and controlled grant to push medicalisation. I want real science (and actually solid investment in mental health services across the board).

PencilsInSpace · 25/02/2019 23:56

They mentioned that Webberley was suspended by the GMC but forgot to mention she is a convicted criminal.

nettie434 · 26/02/2019 00:02

Agree WowWowWoman - if this is going to be a clinical trial I think it will have to registered but I suspect it will look back over records of children and young people referred to GIDS. The bit in the programme about the lack of research will have come as a surprise to many viewers I think.

Iused2BanOptimist · 26/02/2019 00:04

Caught up now. It's really shocking that there has been no long term follow up/longitudinal study of patients over the years. Polly Carmichael all happy that they now have funding to do this. It seems extraordinarily negligent that it wasn't done from the start.
