Compulsory trans lessons in primary schools: what will this involve?

Lumene · 24/02/2019 09:02

Does anyone know who will be teaching or writing the trans part of this curriculum and what it will cover?

Given the cod science and lack of/outright hostility to safeguarding concerns of many of the lobby groups who have been teaching in schools I am really concerned about this.

What does the government think primary school children need to know about trans issues and for what purpose? Will they consult with organisations such as Transgender Trend, WPUK, FPFW?

this is what the cultural revolution must have felt like...,

Will there be medals for denouncing GC parents ?

WeRiseUp · 24/02/2019 11:10

Will there be medals for denouncing GC parents?

If there are I'm fucked.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 24/02/2019 11:13

I’ll get the tattoo

Cagliostro · 24/02/2019 11:17

That is true, there are plenty of woke families with trans kids in the HE community. Thankfully though our local network is absolutely massive and it is easy to avoid any nonsense. :o

Imnobody4 · 24/02/2019 11:20

According to website the results of the consultation are still being analysed so how can they publish anything yet?

adultFemaleElf · 24/02/2019 11:21

Anyone got the time and talent to draft a letter for us parents to send schools, to enquire what children will be taught? I have no qualms about speaking up as a critical thinking feminist when it comes to my children’s education.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 24/02/2019 11:24

Because it's rigged, it doesn't mattert the outcome things are still going to happen.

WeRiseUp · 24/02/2019 11:24

That's a good idea.

R0wantrees · 24/02/2019 11:34

If sending letters to schools, its worth always sending copies to both the head teacher and the chair of governors.

BettyDuMonde · 24/02/2019 11:39

Phew. I’ve got no space left!

MillytantForceit · 24/02/2019 11:42

Trying to think of what fuckwit shit they pedalled to us at Primary School?

  • Don't worry kids, you're all safe because this classroom is lined with asbestos, just like your house on the moon wll be in 1980...
Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 24/02/2019 11:47

I've had a quick scoot through the draft proposal (I do remember filling in the consultation too).
I think there's a hell of a lot of sense in that document, generally.

My concern would be around the legal points that are to be focused on. This was all fine and dandy when gender reassignment meant someone with a gender recognition certificate, but now it means anyone who wants to live in the opposite set of stereotypes! I don't think the massive confusion over the equality act is going to help. I don't know how you teach this. Self I.D has not been passed yet, but time and time again I see TRAs claiming that they have the right to do something because of the equalities act. The fact that woman are also protected and have the right to single sex services are easily forgotten.

The government needs to clarify so much before this is fit to teach!

There is a child in DD2 year who came in after a holiday, demanded to be called a new name (but only by new teachers) and to be treated as non binary. The phase passed for them, but does that kid have legal rights for the time they were gender fluid? This child had a background of attention seeking behaviour, and bullying.

I was pleased to see a section on challenging sex and gender stereotypes. Yes they are damaging.
But how can the two narratives fit together?

"I'm behaving in a set of gender stereotypes, therefore I am that sex, and legally you can't discriminate against me"
And the
"Gender stereotypes are damaging" line from the draft

I really wonder how this can possibly work.

I'd want to see lesson plans.

There's no legal stuff on gender identity is there? Just gender reassignment....

Is there a difference?

Whatisthisfuckery · 24/02/2019 11:51

My DS is starting secondary in September. At that point I think I’ll be writing to the school asking them for the teaching materials they’ll be using. They can try calling me a homophobic bigot if they like, but I’m an out and proud GNC lesbian, so good luck with that.

I don’t think there’s much point yet because his primary haven’t had any trans stuff whatsoever. They had a boy pupil identifying as a girl who has now left, but they were sensible and let the child wear a skirt instead of trousers, but they weren’t allowed to use girls’ toilets, and they didn’t enforce pronouns on the other kids.

Thingybob · 24/02/2019 11:54

The results of the consultation are here (See Annex C)

consult.education.gov.uk/pshe/relationships-education-rse-health-education/supporting_documents/180718%20Consultation_call%20for%20evidence%20response_policy%20statement.pdf

The next stage is;

Once this exercise has been completed and we have had an opportunity to reflect on the responses, we will be putting the regulations to the Houses of Parliament for debate. Subject to Parliament approving the regulations, they will be published alongside the final statutory guidance and we are intending for this process to be completed in spring 2019

Meanwhile this petition is being debated tomorrow

There are sufficient safeguarding and duty of care concerns being expressed by GPs, clinicians through BMJ as well as Tavistock staff including the Safeguarding officer of GIDS Trust to require that schools hold back from starting any teaching regarding gender identity/trans ideology.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/02/2019 12:09

My son's (secondary) HT thinks I'm a homophobic bigot because I challenged the Stonewall Champion teachings.

He believes Stonewall to be credible based on previous LGB teaching and has discredited Transgendertrend because Schools Week endorses Stonewall and discredits Transgendertrend.

I have written to the editor Jon Dickens and suggest you do the same.

OldCrone · 24/02/2019 13:13

The results of the consultation are here (See Annex C)

I don't think the results have been published yet Thingybob. Annex C is about the 'call for evidence' from December 2017. The document you linked to is the one that was published at the launch of the consultation in July 2018. I think the 'call for evidence' only goes to selected groups of people, whereas the consultation is open to anyone who wants to respond.

Meandmetoo · 24/02/2019 13:15

Won't be involving my DC that's for sure, they will be removed from those lessons.

My son's (secondary) HT thinks I'm a homophobic bigot because I challenged the Stonewall Champion teachings

Jonny Best's recent article is worth sending to people who have taken such a position:
'What’s gone wrong with Stonewall?'

(extract)
The root of Stonewall’s failure over the last five years is its endorsement of gender identity and its attempt to coerce society into accepting it. In order to see clearly the line that Stonewall has crossed, compare its definitions of homophobia and transphobia:

Homophobia is:

The fear or dislike of someone, based on prejudice or negative attitudes, beliefs or views about lesbian, gay or bi people.
Transphobia is:

The fear or dislike of someone based on the fact they are trans, including the denial/refusal to accept their gender identity.
Stonewall has written and promoted a definition of ‘transphobia’ which categorises anybody who resists belief in an idea as transphobic. Feminists who wish to uphold their understanding of gender as an oppressive, hierarchical system of sex stereotyping are labelled transphobic. At a stroke, every second wave feminist is a bigot — as Germaine Greer and Jenni Murray have both discovered.

This is not a progressive or even a constructive politics.

Stonewall’s new found enthusiasm for gender is all-encompassing. The Stonewall glossary redefines homosexuality as:

…someone who has an emotional romantic and/or sexual orientation towards someone of the same gender.
Did you see what happened there? Same-sex attraction has become same-gender attraction.

This might seem academic, but take a moment to reflect on what it means in the context of Stonewall’s affirmation of gender identity. Stonewall is asserting that lesbians are attracted to anyone with a female gender identity, whether that person is biologically male or female.

This turns gay and lesbian desire into transphobia. I’m a gay man — I’m attracted to male bodies — not people performing male gender roles. And, yes, that means I like male genitalia. (I really like it). Trans activists argue that my sex-focused homosexuality is transphobic. I’ve seen trans activists compare non-trans inclusive gay desire to racism and describe gay sexuality as ‘genital hang-ups’. (continues)

R0wan

I’ve bookmarked Jonny Best’s article for when I finally get a response from my local hospital trust about what it means for them to have become a “Stonewall Diversity Chapion” hospital and a corporate sponsor of Stonewall. Two emails and two phone calls on, still no answer ...

OldCrone · 24/02/2019 13:20

For anyone in Wales (or anyone else who wants to participate), a new consultation was launched last week.

beta.gov.wales/draft-guidance-relationships-and-sexuality-education

It's open until April 1st.

This consultation stems from the Sex and Relationship Expert Panel’s report entitled “Informing the future of the Sex and Relationships Curriculum in Wales”

www.cardiff.ac.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/1030606/informing-the-future-of-the-sex-and-relationships-education-curriculum-in-wales-web.pdf

I haven't read the whole thing, but there seem to be a lot of mentions of 'gender identity'.

Iused2BanOptimist · 24/02/2019 13:21

Won't be involving my DC that's for sure, they will be removed from those lessons.

The trouble is not only do they not tell you when "the lessons" will be, but they work the whole agenda into all subjects.

Climate change for instance. My DD , who studied it a lot for her geography A level complained that it would also appear in texts for French or English or in a chemistry or maths topic.

Not to mention special assemblies.

That's how they drum in the message.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 24/02/2019 13:30

Thankfully DS is a contrary child who had very good analytical skills. He says that his friends all day it’s a form of bullying and a way to shut down debate.
