Womb transplants for trans women are a human right, says surgeon

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/transgender-women-should-entitled-womb-13972102

"Because once the medical community accept this as a treatment for cis-women with uterine infertility, such as congenital absence of a womb, then it would be illegal to deny a trans-female who has completed her transition.

"The most important step is the harvesting from the donor as great care is required to avoid damage to the arteries and veins supplying the uterus.
Trans females have a much narrower pelvis than cis-women of the same height, but there would still be room for them to carry a child.

“Supplemental hormones could be taken to replicate the changes that occur in the body when a woman is pregnant.

We all know that Fae and the like think pregnancy would be all flouncing about with their bumps out in Jojo Maman Bébé and people touching their bumps and telling them they are glowing so they can go home and wank about it.

There’s a little part of me that would like them to taste the reality of it because a transwomen pregnancy, if ever possible, would be a horror show of side effects, discomfort and potential death.

Has anyone (apart from us wicked TERFs, of course) stopped to consider the damage that anti-rejection drugs might cause a growing foetus

I would think the anti-rejection drugs would be a known risk, as I’m fairly sure recipients of other organs have gone on to successfully give birth.

The hormones would be unknown. I would think it would be the combination of hormones, anti rejection drugs, a massive abdominal foreign body, restricted space in the abdominal cavity, and a recently healed transplanted uterus. A major danger i would have thought would be where they join the blood supply. Uteri need a huge blood supply during pregnancy- Death by exangination or massive blood loss is not uncommon during birth, and thats in uncompromised blood vessels...

It has been mentioned above but if this goes ahead (and I personally don’t think it can because like someone else said the uterus isn’t a bag- men don’t have the right plumbing) this is going to cause untold amounts of miscarriages . There will be hundreds and hundreds of deaths before they manage to somehow get a live baby out of it. I am pro abortion but I’m not in favor of creating death upon death to feed the fantasies of some deluded men. Plus the horrific pain they’ll inflict on animals while they experiment

KnickyKnackyNooNoo · 06/06/2019 13:32

Thank fuck I'm having a hysterectomy soon because I wouldn't want mine being harvested for this ridiculous shit either!!!

Just out of curiosity, how would I know if my uterus was destroyed after they take it out?

Lamaha · 06/06/2019 14:33

Thank goodness mine is too old to be harvested by some entitled man! It's done its job, and well.

There’s a little part of me that would like them to taste the reality of it because a transwomen pregnancy, if ever possible, would be a horror show of side effects, discomfort and potential death.

Yes, and the very egotism that goes along with wanting, demanding a womb just to show how womanly one is would render them incapable of the selfless care that goes into actually looking after a baby and toddler. But I expect they would want to hire females to do the actual caring work.

DD doesn't have a uterus. We saw a senior developmental specialist in the time since this was posted. She was told her only option is IVF with a surrogate carrying her baby. The specialist said uterus transplants were "not feasible and wishful thinking".

If a mtf has a "human right" to a uterine transplant they can fucking get in the queue behind biological women like my DD. Wow, I'm really pissed off now.

SimplySteveRedux · 06/06/2019 15:19

Sorry, the specialist I mentioned also has gynaecology as a discipline. She's one of the most respected in the country.

Some of these transphobic posts are horrendous.

‘I will opt out of my organs being used to furnish a mans vanity project’

‘I’d want my womb to go to a natural woman not someone who’s mutilated their own body’

Obviously a controversial issue but what a disgusting way to talk about trans people. These aren’t people who have changed gender or sex for a laugh or to see what it’s like but because they were born into the wrong body. The way some people on mn speak about them with such revile is appauling.

If a woman born into a mans body had all her surgery to become the woman she is I hope she gets my womb if I’m mangled in a car accident. I hope you’re sat next to her at baby group and when you ask how her birth was and she explains her story you realise what an ignorant, stupid person you are.

Perhaps trans men who are having surgery to become men would be inclined to donate their wombs to trans women as they have greater compassion and understanding for how they feel

twicemummy1 · 06/06/2019 15:49

Talking about menstruation is transphobic, talking about pregnancy is transphobic , saying lesbians don't have penises is transphobic, not believing you can change sex is transphobic. So in other words everything, literally everything is transphobic. The word "transphobic" can only be used in irony, surely

Noone is born in the wrong body. You have the body you are born with. Accept that. Dress how you like, be how you like so long as it doesn't harm anyone else but there is no such thing as being born in the wrong body.

Napqueen, I think the problem is I literally don't care about trans women any more than I care about some other random group of people that have nothing to do with me.
I care about women and girls and that's why I frequent the feminist board here on mumsnet that centres women and girls.

So I don't care if female impersonators want the experience of being pregnant. The only reason trans stuff gets any of my attention is because of how it may hurt or affect women and girls.
I'm so sick of being told feminism isn't allowed to be about women and girls and must instead focus on vegetarianism or the environment or the male suicide rate or female impersonators or all the thousands of other causes in the world. Because of course it's women's job to always put others first and therefore we must never prioritize women in feminism

RuffleCrow · 06/06/2019 16:01

Napqueen, don't impose your religious faith in the existence of a sexed/ gendered soul that can be 'born in the wrong body' on the rest of us. Living in a pluralistic society means that you must accept the rights of others to go with the scientific evidence rather than your irrational belief system.

It's an operation so radical and invasive, according to the update posted by David Lewis which he has linked above, that it should really only be done on cadavers. So I hope none of them are foolish enough to volunteer for this surgery.
