Women's March London says trans voices should be elevated over women's voices

Women's march london is a fully intersectional and trans inclusive collective, as laid out in our guiding principles. We fully recognise trans women as women and sisters and welcome them to all our actions. We acknowledge that all who were assigned female at birth, including our trans brothers and some non-binary siblings share many of the same struggles and believe that the voices of trans men and AFAB non-binary people should always be heard and elevated in discussions of reproductive justice or menstrual equity.
We will not tolerate anyone who comes to our actions or our spaces with the intent to cause harm to others and believe that transphobia has no place in feminist action. Bread and Roses is an all genders action and one where we hope people of all genders and none can feel safe and welcome. If any trans sibling feels threatened or unsafe on the march we urge them to come speak to our stewards or one of the organisers and we will do our best to help.

Dear Munroe - the answer is "no". Also, you're not a very convincing liar.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 21/01/2019 11:30

Reaching the increasing belief that Bergdorf is mad.

R0wantrees · 21/01/2019 11:37

'I did enjoy 'get with the program'

Its fascinating how some prominant male transpeople use such rhetoric to make demands of women:

cf India Willoughby, 'I am a real woman I am going to say that one more time so it really penetrates, I am a real woman'

AngryAttackKittens · 21/01/2019 11:42

They still don't seem to have realized that many women have lots of experience in male people trying to boss us around and an instinctive "nope, fuck off" reaction.

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 11:42

It's all just gob shite word salad

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 11:45

I'm going to say that one more time so it really penetrates
Penetrates?
penetrates??
Human male claims to be female but references their penis in doing so
Wtf??

R0wantrees · 21/01/2019 11:48

Wordthe

Its worth watching.
The hand gestures reiterate the point (so to speak)

deepwatersolo · 21/01/2019 11:48

Nah, Munroe. Thanks, but no thanks. You might not go anywhere, but nor do women. And we prefer to make our own program, thanks.

deepwatersolo · 21/01/2019 11:50

Well, it is good India reiterates the 'I am a woman' thing. You wouldn't guess from that whole scene. #malesocialization

Ereshkigal · 21/01/2019 11:50

Transwoman is the term I will continue to use.

I will use neither, because both prop up the falsehood. But yes, TRAs hate the word "transwoman" because it is part of a noun which indicates something other than woman, rather than an adjective to describe a "woman".

OrchidInTheSun · 21/01/2019 11:51

Here's Muroe after last year's Women's March complaining about pink pussy hats.

graziadaily.co.uk/life/opinion/munroe-bergdorf-women-getting-feminism-wrong/

Despite being told many times that all vaginas are pink, regardless of the vagina-holder's skin colour on Twitter, Munroe decided to ignore those women and reiterate that point again.

Munroe is certainly very keen on kicking white women but is getting better at not doing it overtly.

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 11:53

It is totally all about men trying to dominate women
again
So transparent and so fucking boring

Floisme · 21/01/2019 11:54

Women are getting feminism wrong
I will never tire of hearing that quote. Priceless.

FloralBunting · 21/01/2019 12:02

Good points made about transwoman/trans woman/not using woman in any form for those that aren't.

I'll just add that currently, the accepted form among AWAs is 'trans woman', but this quite a recent affectation as no gap was acceptable for quite a while.

Expect the language to shift again at some point, probably relatively quickly, because this is not actually about finding the right term to use, this is a basic control tactic. I fully expect the trans to be dropped at some point, and a clue to this is in the emergence of 'woman with a trans experience'.

Yet again, this isn't about trans rights, this about control. Controlling the way people communicate is vital for the powerful. Any rebellion against things like is to be encouraged.

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 12:16

if human males claiming to be women are allowed to call themselves whatever they like then surely human females can refer to themselves as whatever they like, we can call ourselves real women, true women etc

Wordthe · 21/01/2019 12:19

I noticed that India Willoughby, although claiming to be telling the truth, was using the old trick of sunglasses indoors to obscure facial expressions

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/01/2019 12:21

No just no. It was supposed to be a women’s march. Any self aware person - not born a woman - would just not take centre stage to tell women what’s what. Any sensible woman wouldn’t ask them to in the first place.

Women have issues today that need addressing that transwomen just won’t ever understand. Sexual harassment at school, low achievement expectations as a child (yes even these days), periods, pregnancy, miscarriage, menopause... these is so much work to do for women. Why get the non-women on board? They only divide.

deepwatersolo · 21/01/2019 12:22

They have now pinned a longer statement on twitter. Including 'cis women', again.
And they want a space where all women can love, serve and protect each other. (I guess that is a typo and 'each other' should read 'trans women'.)

terryleather · 21/01/2019 12:23

Still no idea why anyone gives that sanctimonious vacuous narc the time of day tbh...oh wait, they tell actual women what to do so of course they are lauded.

Floisme · 21/01/2019 12:26

If Munroe is serious about wanting to be treated like a woman then I suggest they offer to serve up tea and cakes on the next march.

nauticant · 21/01/2019 12:27

The responses to their tweets are (entirely justifiably) brutal:

It blows my mind that they don't seem to think Jewish women are women, but they think men are women.

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/01/2019 12:27

Serve?

Shock
nauticant · 21/01/2019 12:29

This is instructive and very unsurprising:

deepwatersolo · 21/01/2019 12:29

Serve?

Well, istn't that the womanly thing to do? Wink

AngryAttackKittens · 21/01/2019 12:30

They're talking in religious terms again.
