Women's March London says trans voices should be elevated over women's voices

Women's march london is a fully intersectional and trans inclusive collective, as laid out in our guiding principles. We fully recognise trans women as women and sisters and welcome them to all our actions. We acknowledge that all who were assigned female at birth, including our trans brothers and some non-binary siblings share many of the same struggles and believe that the voices of trans men and AFAB non-binary people should always be heard and elevated in discussions of reproductive justice or menstrual equity.
We will not tolerate anyone who comes to our actions or our spaces with the intent to cause harm to others and believe that transphobia has no place in feminist action. Bread and Roses is an all genders action and one where we hope people of all genders and none can feel safe and welcome. If any trans sibling feels threatened or unsafe on the march we urge them to come speak to our stewards or one of the organisers and we will do our best to help.

Tbh I don’t think most men I know don’t even know what the word menstruate even means
They would be wondering what the wokieys was on about
But they do understand the word women
As does all of the world

I don’t get it - unless it’s just a monumental puss take.

There's some things they can't take away from us!

Ereshkigal · 20/01/2019 23:19

The point here is that they aren't even consistent with their own bullshit. Their "23 menstruators in parliament" when Britain joined the EU is not the case. They're using it as a synonym for "female". Or guessing based on no of women in parliament at the time.

I'm definitely a sniffler today (bloody cold season).

nettie434 · 20/01/2019 23:35

Am sure you are right about using ‘menstruator’ as synonym for female Ereshkigal Actually the average age of MPs in those days was older and it was almost impossible to be a woman MP with young children so the 23 were more likely to be hot flushers Angry

Younger women also have hysterectomies due to medical neccessity.

We don't generally publically identify as 'former menstruators'

Although it seems there is a definite need to raise awareness about this (as well as many other issues) with those who run the Women's March London twitter account.

BlackForestCake · 21/01/2019 00:46

Does there need to be a real Women’s March instead of this bollocks?

OlennasWimple · 21/01/2019 00:46

Are all the other Women's Marches led by transwomen?

theOtherPamAyres · 21/01/2019 00:56

TRANSWOMAN or TRANS WOMAN?

it's 'transwoman' if you don't believe that TWAW

Trans activists insist on Trans space woman. They insist on it, because it's a description of a woman in the same way that you would say 'black women' or 'older women'. It is validation

Transwoman is the term I will continue to use.

AngryAttackKittens · 21/01/2019 01:14

I'd rather not wrap my boobs in cling film, thanks, Munroe.

WeeBisom · 21/01/2019 02:24

So if female MPs are 'menstruators' what can we call the male MPs? Can we say 'in 1973 there were 500 jizzers in Parliament"? How about 'In 1973 there were 500 prostate havers in Parliament."

The women's march helpfully provides a flow chart - does the person menstruate? If yes they are a menstruator. If no, they are a non-menstruator. What does it mean to say 'does the person menstruate' ?I'm on contraception which stops my periods. I haven't had a proper period in years. Am I am menstruator? Does this mean that post-menopausal women, and young girls, are in the same category as men?

It's hilarious because on their Twitter page they have retweeted a transwoman who indignantly states "I'm a woman and I'm more than my reproductive organs." Well, good for you, but how is this consistent with calling women menstruators?

I've said this before but honest to god when I see terms like 'menstruator' or 'lactator' it makes me feel terrible. It is so dehumanising.

In response to the outrageous boundary-pushing of the most vocal transactivists, I have grown uncomfortable with even the social courtesy of calling any male-born person "woman" of any kind. I will use a person's preferred name, and I will refer to trans people/a trans person, but activists have infringed so far upon women's boundaries that I will no longer refer to any male born person as a "woman" in any context.

By the way the freebie magazine Stylist was giving away free pull out posters for Bread and Roses March (to use as placards) and massively promoting it including via an editorial comment last week.

I wonder if Stylist would be interested in talking to any (actual) women about the problems of being so inclusive that you end up supporting anti-women, homophobia-supporting politics? They could speak to WPUK, LAWS, Posie Parker, Magdalen Berns, ManFriday..?

Incidentally, the [[http://www.millionwomenrise.com/
Million Women Rise]] march is in London on 9 March and last year, that actually did feel as if it was about women.

nauticant · 21/01/2019 09:27

Transwomen is what they are.

Compared to trans women supposedly being the type of women they are.

The interesting thing about menstruators is that because not all of the people this is supposed to apply to menstruate, the argument is effectively being made that the relevant people are those having menstruating equipment. But aren't we continually being told that the equipment that we have is irrelevant to our gender (as a proxy for sex)? It seems that women can be categorised according to their equipment but men cannot.

VickyEadie · 21/01/2019 10:22

If they're trying to make some sort of point about women's representation in parliament, encouraging everyone to believe that transwomen are women will merely lead to FEWER women representing us.

Male Transperson/ people
Female Transperson /people

Seems the most accurate and also inclusive description. Many male transpeople are non-binary, some agender etc.

Stonewall etc have made clear to everyone that there are many transpeople under the umbrella who must be 'accepted without exception'.

I know transpeople exist.

I know humans can't change sex.

I also know language matters.

They've deleted the initial tweet and replaced it with:

twitter.com/womensmarchlon/status/1087105220688179200

"As a trans inclusive and intersectional group we try to use inclusive language when talking about issues of biology. This guide from @PeriodPositive explains why we chose to use the word "menstruator" in an earlier tweet about the tampon tax".

Then they go on to dig themselves further in with:

"Whilst the group of people in question (the 23 afab mps serving in 1973) were all cis women, the word menstruator was used instead of women because the shared experience that was being referenced was menstruation and not womanhood".

Every single reply (hundreds of them) is pure gold.

We seem to have a Peak Trans machine going here.

I feel a bit tempted to bung them some money (yes, they have the begging bowl out) just so that they can continue their sterling work. Smile

Munroe Bergdorf has issued further instructions.

(Munroe's claims that 'all women matter' though clearly not the women Munroe demonises (to use MB's terminology) as 'terfs')

I did enjoy 'get with the program'

It acknowledges that there is an awful lot of organizational effort from certain quarters in a program, it's a command from someone who perceives they are superior to rebellious women. It's very revealing, and most women I know don't smile sweetly when given this command.
