How to report paedophiles on Twitter?

A bunch of people who claim to be "non offending" paedophiles have joined twitter recently. They're openly tweeting about being paedophiles. They call themselves MAPs (Minor Attracted Persons) or NOMAPS. Their bios contain info such as the age of children they're attracted to.

I've reported some of them using Twitter's link for reporting Child Sexual Exploitation but I'm not sure if that's the right place as there's no evidence of any child being involved, also I reported them 3 days ago but the accounts are still up and I haven't had anything more than a confirmation - and I don't have a lot faith in twitter at the moment tbh.

They're claiming they're not a threat because they control their urge to offend. But we've been here before haven't we - this is just like PIE.

What should we do? Who can we report this to? Would the police be interested? Are they breaking the law?

Should we mass report Twitter on this?

I've attached an example, to find the others use the hashtags MAP or NOMAP or search for "MAP community".

What's the best way to deal with this?

Task Force Argos were responsible for the arrest of a real nasty piece of work. I’m sure this branch of most police organisations will be watching this sort of thing very closely or will be worth reporting to.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 03/01/2019 02:19

Twitter have a separate link through their Help Centre.

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 03:09

WTFIsAGleepglorp that's the link I used. Sorry I should have made it clearer.

I reported 3 if them to that link the other day, but nothing's happened yet. I was wondering what to do next - should I report the rest of them via that link? If so do people want to join me in doing this?

And - can I report to police?

NotBadConsidering I'm not sure what country they're in. Should I just report via my own country maybe? If so, anyone know who in the UK to report these to?

It’s shocking.

So blatant.

‘DMs always open’.

Why broadcast ‘AOA’ unless they are looking for material or links?

And that Twitter allows these accounts to stand while routinely banning feminists for expressing legal points of view......

Nudibranch · 03/01/2019 05:06

In case anyone is wondering, the recent influx on Twitter of pedophiles or "Minor Attracted Persons" as they like to call themselves is because of the recent banning of all adult content on Tumblr, so they've all had to find a new social media home for their filth.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 03/01/2019 05:45

They were banned from Reddit as well so they will continue to cluster where they can
Report it to the FBI - they have links on their website and tackle the federal oversight of CSE

It’s curious to me why these guys need a public website - one would think if they had any shame but needed a place to relate, that they would set up a private group and advertise it - but no - they get their rocks off causing distress to others

NotBadConsidering · 03/01/2019 06:14

I think the take away message from Task Force Argos is that tackling online child abuse is a collaborative process between police forces across the world, so regardless of what country any particular Twitter account is in, police will be interested as it inevitably leads to involvement with people in their country 😪. So I think it’s worth letting them know, but I bet for all money their onto it. The police who investigate these crimes deserve multiple medals for what they have to endure.

The sudden surge of MAPs/ NoMAPs showing up on Twitter in December might be evidence of a migration of these creeps to Twitter following Tumblr's shutdown of accounts featuring porn & other adult content at the same time.

Then again, in early December on 4chan a new hoax campaign was proposed to flood Twitter with fake MAP accounts, for the express purpose of discrediting the LGBT/queer community & ridiculing M2Fs trans people in particular.

There are tons of paedophiles in the real world as well as online. And it's definitely been established that a good number of men who claim to be women have unsavoury & pervy sexual inclinations & fetishes. But at this juncture it's not clear whether the sudden appearance of so many new (as of December) MAP accounts on Twitter is a genuine phenomenon or the result of trolling...

An earlier 4chan campaign to (pretend to) put the P into the LGBTQ:

dianebrewster · 03/01/2019 07:31

Whatever the truth of this latest, apparent, attempt, to legitimise "MAPS" it's been done before, by the Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE) in the 70's. I was involved in student union stuff st the time, I do remember them. They very carefully tried to infiltrate the, then, campaign for gay rights. They almost succeeded.

Simon Fanshawe, a FOUNDER of Stonewall, well knows this. He's been urging caution from Stonewall on the trans issues for a while now, but in the last week or so has pretty explicitly come out as GC. He's retweeted the Janice Turner article, tweeted supportively to Julie Bindel "you have been fantastic all year, ...thanks", has very recently called out the PIE connection, and is now tweeting in support of Helen Watts asking girlguiding to address her safeguarding concerns. He's joined the dots. I do think the tide is turning.

PineappleSunrise · 03/01/2019 09:00

UK users can report it to the National Crime Agency's Child Exploitation and Online Protection:

PineappleSunrise · 03/01/2019 09:04

...and whether they are a bunch of trolls or a bunch of actual MAPs, they will not enjoy attention from law enforcement.

Raven88 · 03/01/2019 09:22

The problem is amongst a group of trolls there is someone who is serious. I've tweeted a list screenshots that appear to be NOMAP or MAP to the CEO of twitter and Twitter Support. Hopefully someone notices.

Terfing · 03/01/2019 09:25

What does Nomap stand for? I don't want to Google it... Sad

PineappleSunrise · 03/01/2019 09:26

DON'T just push them off Twitter, they'll only end up somewhere else. Report them to law enforcement so something actually happens to them.

Raven88 · 03/01/2019 09:27

@Terfing Non Offending Minor Attracted Person 🤢. They had a community on tumblr and reddit but the sites closed ranks.

Non Offending Minor Attracted Person

starcrossedseahorse · 03/01/2019 10:11

This really pisses me off as a person who has been permanently kicked off twitter for championing bio sex. I reported many MAP accounts when I was allowed on twitter but they were never removed. The sudden proliferation is worrying.

JillScarlet · 03/01/2019 10:12

Is the common use / enthusiasm for anime / manga graphics a sign of 4Chan interests or a MAP interest in those big eyed characters with carved figures?

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 10:16

So how can we tell if they're genuine or trolling?

OP posts:
userschmoozer · 03/01/2019 10:19

Its not our problem to worry if its a troll or a genuine pedophile. No one who understands child safety or safeguarding thinks that behaviour that mimics that of predators is harmless, so treat it all as genuine.

MsMcWoodle · 03/01/2019 11:03

Thanks for this. I've been seeing loads of stuff, but this was the most worrying. It seems to be a child asking for a homework skills swap and using the #map re geography.
Notice that at least one 'map' asks for contact via dm.
