How to report paedophiles on Twitter?

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 01:56

A bunch of people who claim to be "non offending" paedophiles have joined twitter recently. They're openly tweeting about being paedophiles. They call themselves MAPs (Minor Attracted Persons) or NOMAPS. Their bios contain info such as the age of children they're attracted to.

I've reported some of them using Twitter's link for reporting Child Sexual Exploitation but I'm not sure if that's the right place as there's no evidence of any child being involved, also I reported them 3 days ago but the accounts are still up and I haven't had anything more than a confirmation - and I don't have a lot faith in twitter at the moment tbh.

They're claiming they're not a threat because they control their urge to offend. But we've been here before haven't we - this is just like PIE.

What should we do? Who can we report this to? Would the police be interested? Are they breaking the law?

Should we mass report Twitter on this?

I've attached an example, to find the others use the hashtags MAP or NOMAP or search for "MAP community".

What's the best way to deal with this?

MrsMcW that DEFINITELY wants reporting to the police!

HomeStar · 03/01/2019 12:31

MsMcWoodle oh god. is that person offering the DM a MAP? 😨

(I just went and checked it. "broken" used the #mappositivity tag on his next tweet, so asking for help with geography homework seems to have been some kind of sick joke. But I think Natalie who responded offering help was sincere. I hope she's ok. god.)

Also a lot of people are saying this is the result of a 4chan prank. I think those people should read this thread. The material there isn't just teenage edgelords talking lulz.

twitter.com/pankhurstem/status/991258041038368768?lang=en

The 4chan prank is making it much easier to dismiss people who raise the alarm though. And it's probably making it easier for the genuine pedos to put out feelers and build a community by using the teenage edgelords as cover. Plus the accounts are probably successfully getting some young impressionable types to think of MAPs as an oppressed minority. It's a very useful prank for the people who wrote that "manual."

Another Anime cartoon with animal ears profile pic I notice
(Furry ref).

Which is why it doesn't matter if it's trolls or not - REPORT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT, wherever you are. Leave this crap to the professionals.

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 13:09

I went to the CEOPs report link, but it's set up for people who are worried about abuse or grooming of a specific child, e.g. you have to tick if the report is to do with your child or another child.

So, I'm not sure if that's the right place?

Sometimes police receive information that they don't act on immediately, so they can build up information and connections on those involved.

PineappleSunrise · 03/01/2019 13:17

"Another child" should be fine if you can post links and screengrabs in your report.

There is also an American organisation that collates and reports on online child exploitation for law enforcement. You can report a Cybertip to them:

www.missingkids.com/gethelpnow/cybertipline

NCMEC staff review each tip and work to find a potential location for the incident reported so that it may be made available to the appropriate law-enforcement agency for possible investigation. We also use the information from our CyberTipline reports to help shape our prevention and safety messages.

What’s the furry reference mean, seen it about at bit and I can’t work it out

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 13:33

PineappleSunrise it's not just that question - it's that the whole thing is geared up to reporting risks to specific children, not children in general. Making me wonder, is this the right place to report it?

Just following that Twitter grab reveals more unsavoury characters.

I am so glad that I do not have a Twitter account. Mind you, it would probably only take me a few minutes to get a permanet ban.

Lots of them are really young. Where they give their own age, many are teenagers themselves, 15-19yr old young men.

And guess what - they're into anime.

That ‘dolter’ I am Kitty business is disturbing. Are they marketing child-like sex dolls?

OP posts:
timetostepup · 03/01/2019 14:46

This one claims that using dolls and computer drawn images is an "outlet", the implication being it stops them from offending. So he gets his kicks while convincing himself he's justified.

But normalising CSE through realistic sex dolls and imagery has got to increase offending, surely. Just look at the age of these MAPs above for example - I'm not buying it that all paedophiles are born paedophiles.

They're getting support from a few gay men for being included in the LGBT (etc) movements:

twitter.com/JamesCantorPhD/status/1071499969910198274

Make no mistake - these men are growing in confidence, Twitter is supporting them and so are increasing numbers of other men.

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 14:48

I came across this on one of their accounts - what's the yellow for? Is that for the "nomap community" i.e. paedophiles?

Holy shit this is some deranged bullshit. Saying what ages they are attracted to, one sick bastard has put 2-6. I'm sat with my 2 year old DD on my knee. It makes me sick, is this really what we are heading towards? That this will become normal?

I don't have a twitter account but I will make one and report them

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 14:50

VickyEadie that's really worrying. Good to see he's being robustly challenged, but it's mind boggling that he's coming out with that kind of thing int he first place. WTF is going on?

Is the common use / enthusiasm for anime / manga graphics a sign of 4Chan interests or a MAP interest in those big eyed characters with carved figures?

I believe (via the Stacy Dooley documentary) that in Japan paedophilic cartoons are allowed or certainly were very recently, via Manga. I think this is where the link has come from.

Neurotrash · 03/01/2019 15:09

Sorry Anime too. (Can't remember the distinction between manga and anime.)

Neurotrash · 03/01/2019 15:11

Worth a watch.

@VickyEadie

"They're getting support from a few gay men for being included in the LGBT (etc) movements:"

I am not at all surprised about that. Interesting article from Julie Bindel about one of the most visible gay rights activists and his previous history.
