How to report paedophiles on Twitter?

timetostepup · 03/01/2019 01:56

A bunch of people who claim to be "non offending" paedophiles have joined twitter recently. They're openly tweeting about being paedophiles. They call themselves MAPs (Minor Attracted Persons) or NOMAPS. Their bios contain info such as the age of children they're attracted to.

I've reported some of them using Twitter's link for reporting Child Sexual Exploitation but I'm not sure if that's the right place as there's no evidence of any child being involved, also I reported them 3 days ago but the accounts are still up and I haven't had anything more than a confirmation - and I don't have a lot faith in twitter at the moment tbh.

They're claiming they're not a threat because they control their urge to offend. But we've been here before haven't we - this is just like PIE.

What should we do? Who can we report this to? Would the police be interested? Are they breaking the law?

Should we mass report Twitter on this?

I've attached an example, to find the others use the hashtags MAP or NOMAP or search for "MAP community".

What's the best way to deal with this?

What does the NO stand for?

TimeLady · 06/01/2019 06:47

NO means Non-Offending

Congratulations (again) to The Sunday Times for calling Twitter out on this.

I agree with MagicMix. I don’t think there’s any such thing as a ‘virtuous’ paedophile and I don’t think they deserve social support. They are fantasising about child rape and expecting sympathy for it.

Sunday Times article here. Has anyone got a share token?

Someone at the times is reading mumsnet a lot,it feels like!

The Times article says It is believed that the deluge of anonymous pro-paedophilia accounts on Twitter was orchestrated by users of the controversial message board 4chan.

From the start when all these MAP accounts suddenly showed up on Twitter all at once there were questions about whether we were witnessing a hoax by 4chan or other trolls. Unfortunately, the Times report doesn't provide any evidence that this is - or isn't - the case: the paper just makes an unsubstantiated assertion that it tries to pass of as convincing by employing the fudgy phrase "it is believed". Hope the Times clarifies.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 06/01/2019 15:00

I think the idea it's always 4chan when this kind of thing happens is wishful thinking.

They have done stuff but with recent ejection of paedophile groups from other boards seems more likely to be real.

PIE were real.

Vegilante · 06/01/2019 18:37

Nothing think you're right about wishful thinking. Also, 4chan could well be full of paedophiles. Lots of guys into trolling are rather unsavoury in their personal habits & sexual inclinations. IMO, that is.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 06/01/2019 19:12

YY the groups of man (namalt) who likes to troll / wind up / etc on the internet is not mutually exclusive with man who likes kids.

Reminds me of the group years ago who got onto amazon streaming I think it was and replaced a load of peppa pig videos or something with porn.

They said it was to expose that it could happen.

Rightyho so why choose kids stuff and show them porn, huh?

welshgendercrit · 06/01/2019 21:42

Strike 2. Reported another MAP account yesterday and today had the report back that it violated rules and has been suspended. I think Twitter admin may be getting worried.

GobBluthsSegway · 06/01/2019 21:53

Search "NoMap"
Select People
Glance at the bio (some are anti)
Hit the 3 dots
Report account
Select Their profile info and/or images include abusive or hateful content
Hit Next
Select Graphic
Hit Next
Mute or block at your discretion.

Rinse, repeat.

I have had success with this, just sat here doing it while watching telly.

GobBluthsSegway · 06/01/2019 21:54

Oh you don't have to search each time, once you report it takes you back to the list of accounts.

FlawedAmazon · 06/01/2019 21:58

Some of us have started a Twitter group and are beginning to see results from our reporting.

We're @MCoaliton although not sure how long for because they've already started to shadowban us it seems.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 08/01/2019 06:21

I’ve just read the Independent article about the tactics that PIE used and I can see it happening again

It’s very clearly laid out in it how a small renagade group seek to use a larger movement as a cover for getting access to children and moving the Overton window re age of consent / normalising paedophiles etc. It also details how many unsuspecting people and orgs didn’t critically question enough and how individuals in positions of power over vulnerable children eg Head of Social Services - deliberately misinterpreted the policy guidelines to set precedents that enabled male predators to exploit them for example Savile. The example given was misconstruing child rape by care workers as “consenting sexual relationships”, giving licence to others to turn a systemic blind eye.

A separate thread on that one topic would seem prudent.

Justhadathought · 08/01/2019 10:08

Maybe part of the reason they are becoming this open right now is that the paedophile connection has been well and truly established in some trans men who claim to be women ( Jonathan Yaniv, for example). It is a way of jumping the gun by anticipating the negative publicity and trying to get in there first. They have been outed.

Even if they claim not to be 'acting on their impulses' they are almost certainly looking at images.. and if they are looking at images then children will most definitely have ben harmed in the making of those images.
