" Big businesses helped kill the Texas bathroom bill two years ago, targeting it as discriminatory and unnecessary.

They said the legislation, which would have required Texans to use the restrooms that match their sex at birth, would have hampered efforts to woo new companies to the state and turned off convention planners and sports leagues looking at venues for events.

Now, some companies are doubling down on that commitment, citing diversity and inclusivity as factors in their decisions. Apple made this clear Thursday, when it announced a $1 billion investment in the capital city.

The bathroom bill, or something like it, may be back when state lawmakers meet in 2019. But opponents of these restroom regulations say the business community will again give them the ammunition they need to shoot down such divisive legislation.

Laughing at the post saying there are no statistics right under the post linking to a statistical survey. There are at least two more links in this thread.

If you don't want to see it, it does not exist.

For the millionth time, a law which prohibits transwomen from entering women's toilets is not going to stop a sex offender from entering the women's toilets. If someone is already intent on breaking the law, slapping another law on top of that isn't going to stop them!

Currently if there is a man in the women's toilets then women can challenge them and/or call the authorities. Under new proposals if women feel uncomfortable we are in the wrong and could be committing a hate crime.

AngryAttackKittens · 14/12/2018 22:06

Ah, bubonic, but if a statistic upsets you then is it really real? If you cover your eyes does the thing you can't see any more cease to exist?

I remember this stage too. He walked into a few walls before he learned not to do that.

Tech is an issue. I’m in STEM and I’ve heard and seen some fairly depressing stuff. My current place is good (clinical/medical research) and I think a lot of that is because you need a significant degree of people skills to do my job and allied ones along with the scientific know how. That tends to weed out the dross to a degree. Clients don’t want assholes who alienate half the workforce, they want people who can get a couple of hundred people working together well.

Academia was dreadful. Straight tech seems to be a special, woman hating hell.

Alex Drummond member of influential Stonewall Trans Advisory Group, "widening the bandwidth" of what it means to be a woman and lesbian.

Alex speaks in schools.

Straight tech seems to be a special, woman hating hell.

Yep. The tendency of both the press and junior people in the industry to treat successful tech dudes like rock stars doesn't help either.

AngryAttackKittens · 14/12/2018 22:10

I always wonder if any budding Bunbury's laugh when Alex introduces himself to the schoolchildren he's addressing as a lesbian.

For the millionth time, a law which prohibits transwomen from entering women's toilets is not going to stop a sex offender from entering the women's toilets

Then why do 90% of attacks on women in public loos occur in mixed sex facilities? I believe someone posted the evidence upthread.

Rubbish rubbish rubbish.Biscuit

This is beyond parody now.

EverardDigby · 14/12/2018 22:13

Rubbish

Ah now I agree with you on this, you would think it was rubbish, but no it's not, a woman is anyone who says they are a woman, even Danielle Muscato or Ian Huntley according to the trans ideology. You need to do some more research.

Many years ago during my sixth form days I worked in a clothes shop. One day I was working on the female changing room and a man tried to walk in. I told him it was the women's and the man's was upstairs. He gave some guff about not being able to walk upstairs (he looked fine) and he wanted to use this one. He was quite persistent. I was only about 17 and on my own. Luckily a (male) security guard spotted the situation and came over, escorting him firmly away.

Now said man would just have to say "I identify as a woman' and young shop assistant is in a very difficult position.

I'm tending towards Bowl's view that it may be educational for any lurkers still labouring under the illusion that anyone calling themselves a transwoman is a lovely person who has a deep and abiding sense of empathy for women.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 14/12/2018 22:16

You reckon there's some kind of completely random spatial co-occurrence between rapists and mixed sex loos? That in places where loos are single-sex there are just fewer sex offenders for completely unrelated reasons?

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/12/2018 22:16

Deffo AAK

I read a really good article a while back on a similar culture in (Lehman brothers?) one of the financial houses that fell in the crash. They identified that as one of the key things that lead to the culture that downed them.

There’s a tendency in the industry to think people have innate genius rather than a good level of intelligence plus experience and hard work. I’m not sure that’s such a healthy culture either. It’s certainly not compatible with accountability.

se. I imagine in reality, a transwoman would be in a position to present evidence that she has been living as a woman,

Nope. You’re not allowed to ask to see a GRC.

Next!

How does one live as a woman?

The "innate genius" theory has a lot to answer for, imo. In tech it seems to lead to the idea that the person in question is so irreplaceable that everyone else pretty much has to put up with whatever they choose to do.
