Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

to wonder why some people just don't get it?

Why don’t people get it?
There was a post on Facebook yesterday, regarding male violence, with regards self ID and crime statistics. Someone on the thread mentioned male violence patterns. They were jumped on by many angry voices, saying things like: “you’re a transphobic piece of shit” and “you’re a complete bigot, trans women are women you moron” and “trans women are not men, so you can’t bring them into the discussion”
I mean, it’s illogical and surely at some level these people must know that? Are they deliberately pretending not to understand or do they genuinely just avoid thinking coherently on Trans issues. Is it easier to bleat TWAW and #no debate than think it through? I just don’t get it. These are really intelligent women too. (for some reason, men are faster to understand the GC discussion than women)

What I think is that there is a big spectrum of how much cognitive dissonance people are capable of living with and it's independent from how intelligent you are.
At one extreme there are people on the autistic spectrum who simply can't lie. At the other there are MPs who go along with and argue for incompatible viewpoints all the time, often with great sincerity.

HandsOffMyRights · 13/12/2018 07:56

My son's headteacher doesn't get it. He says Stonewall is a "reputable" organisation. He said Schools Week had reported negatively on Transgendertrend but positively on Stonewall.

The media has so much to answer for. Schools Week is influential and I would ask all of you to email them as they've not reported on any of this bollocks despite it affecting all children.

MPs could change everything, yet with the exception of a few, notably David Davis, they do nothing or facilitate this lie.

Also, I don't think many people realise that 9 out of ten trans identifying women have a penis still. They think we are being mean to transsexuals. They have no idea how big that Stonewall umbrella is, including cross dressers and fetishists.

I managed to peak a friend over Girl Guides. But then I believe GG sent out a letter 'reassuring' parents and defending their inclusivity (barfs).

Squall · 13/12/2018 08:22

Gg sent me an email explaining that everything is wonderful and actually they have been letting people self-id into the group for aaages before they kicked out Helen. Nope, nothing to see here or worry about...

Is there a link to this please?

Moominfan · 13/12/2018 08:35

I was on this team, thought people who didn't accept trans women were daily mail reading bigots. The idea of trans had been introduced at an early age so just accepted it. Never gave it any thought. It was pride that peak transed me. Pride is about being free to be with who you want. So I thought it was awful that people were telling lesbians that they have to be open to transwomen

HandsOffMyRights · 13/12/2018 08:36

R0wan

I think this is one of the stories he's referring to. schoolsweek.co.uk/schools-warned-over-new-harmful-transgender-trend-stickers/

THis is Alex Drummond. Alex is a member of the influential Stonewall 'Trans Advisory Group'.
Alex Drummond goes into schools, describing to pupils how they is a lesbian and are keen to 'expand the bandwidth of how to be a woman'

Oh and there was this article when TransgenderTrend dared to challenge the current misinformation given to schools.

Magdelen Berns (on the Alex Drummond video above)

'What Kind Of Fools Do Transgender UK and Stonewall Take Us For?'

SnuggyBuggy · 13/12/2018 08:46

I think people these days absolutely love virtue signalling and it's hard to go against the rules of your tribe

kesstrel · 13/12/2018 08:55

We understand pretty well how our psychologies work to protect us against the discomfort of cognitive dissonance. And I understand how young people are indoctrinated into a belief, because the rest of their group believes it, and their cognition is not yet fully mature anyway.

I can also understand how intelligent adults who've adopted a belief about something relatively peripheral to their personal concerns, with little thought about it, will automatically use dissonance-reducing strategies.

But what I am struggling to understand is a case like TwistedStitch describes: how a prominent radical feminist, active in the area of VAWG, could come to adopt such a belief in the first place. As far as I can see, it would have to be social pressure, fear of losing the respect/acceptance of others. Could that social pressure perhaps have come from a different group membership? Maybe, I don't know, radical politics generally, or academics, or social workers?

OtepotiLilliane42 · 13/12/2018 09:22

That Alex Davidson. Is he having a laugh?

Squall · 13/12/2018 09:58

I imagine all of those years trying to pass as a man were really hard, having a male body and all. It must be so liberating to accept that he can finally be the woman he always was, even if he only heard of transgenderism at 40. ffs!

HandsOffMyRights · 13/12/2018 10:18

Thanks for the Magdelen video.
Alex seems to have hit a mid life crisis.
I've seen many men hit this, resulting in some poor woman/women paying the price for an ego.

In the end, it always comes back to stroking penises.

R0wantrees · 13/12/2018 10:27

Alex has had quite a lot of success, validation and influence though.

There is a book.
Speaking and teaching opportunities etc
Presumably involved with Stonewall's policies etc.

TwistedStitch · 13/12/2018 10:27

Another one I'm scratching my head about is Linda Riley- currently having a go about Glinner, saying that men shouldn't speak for lesbians. But a man can actually BE a lesbian according to LR. How on earth does she square that in her head?

OtepotiLilliane42 · 13/12/2018 10:28

Just realised I put Davidson instead of Drummond in the previous post. In my defence it's late at night here in NZ.
But seriously, he really is having a laugh - isn't he?

TimeLady · 13/12/2018 10:28

Alex 'Grrl' Drummond is my go-to video to explain this nonsense to a newbie.

TimeLady · 13/12/2018 10:32

AD may well be having a laugh behind the scenes- but to all intents and purposes, they is (sic) a woman, and Stonewall employs them as such on its advisory policy-making committee

So too Ruth Hunt (CEO Stonewall)
There are a number of male women/lesbians on the influential Trans Advisory Committee

For the vast majority of people it is 100% this. And even once they are told trans women mostly have penises and were previously straight men it can take months or years to process it. It did in my case. It just seems so implausible.

However there are a large number of aggressively woke women who definitely DO know that and yet furiously shut down debate on this stuff and spend all day online calling out “terfs”. I live in a very woke place right now and many women I know locally are like this. It goes way beyond merely wanting to appear kind as they are actually out here reporting “terfs” to the police. They would all side with Alex Drummond over any woman in a heartbeat and genuinely seem to want to share intimate spaces with the Alexes of this world. I can’t account for it.

OtepotiLilliane42 · 13/12/2018 10:41

I honestly don't how he kept a straight face while he was reading from his book. Or more to the point, why his audience couldn't!

Slothslothsloth · 13/12/2018 10:46

I find it very hard to believe Linda Riley would seriously consider a relationship with someone with a penis. Has he claimed she would? Or just that other lesbians should?
